I need you to think for me You know those socially awkward Naruto fans that are so detested? Imagine fans like that for all kinds of anime walking all around the streets, being on the news for reasons most likely pertaining to topics like suicide to pin blame on anime, being immature and sensitive bout their interests in public. In short: Anime fans would be like Bronies. |

The concept of anime covers so many things compared to the retardedness of MLP that only covers one thing. I doubt the same thing would apply. It would depend which anime gets popular compared to what doesn't. Like.. Would Attack on Titan get popular compared to say.. Your average shonen? It depends. |

Whatever way you look at it, you cannot deny a great majority of anime fans are socially awkward, disturbed, or extremely sensitive. I would not like to see these people in public. |

| I just have a hard time believing that anime can't be popular in the west though.. Here's the way I see it. If anything that's going to start the popularization of anime in the west, it'll be things like hollywood to get that shit going and out there. I imagine that the things hollywood are going to go after aren't going to be the stuff that gets anime looked down upon, but instead they'd go after the good stuff, if history was to repeat itself like with Disney has done with a certain studio ghibli movie I forgot the name of. Ponyo or somthing That stuff is going to hit the spotlight first, and that's going to set the standard for those who aren't already into anime, so it's not going to seem as weird to the general public, so more people will get into it. If anything, depending on which anime gets showcased first, it'll be revered if anything, but maybe thats just me thinking optimistically. |

First of all shounen is not a genre, it's a demographic. Many different genres of anime fall under shounen. Even people from Japan would know that. You're most likely thinking of battle shounens(which is an unofficial genre) as they are the most popular outside of Japan(Naruto, DBZ, etc). Those aren't the most popular. SoL series are probably the most popular. Chibi Maruko chan, Sazae san, etc are more popular. What do you mean by super popular? Like the top 3 or 4 anime in weekly tv ratings aren't shounens. |

| The reason I like dubs better: I can't stand hearing the Japanese language for long periods of time - At least, with dubs, the majority of it is in a language that I can understand easily. My main problem may be more that I dislike foreign languages. Believe me, I've given subs multiple chances, and in the end I still prefer dubs (even with the overused voice casts). |

monster7foot6 said: The reason I like dubs better: I can't stand hearing the Japanese language for long periods of time I can somewhat relate, though there are a few Japanese dubs that I really like, for example, Clannad has an awesome seiyuu cast that I really like, much more than the dub. But yeah. I'm always pro-dub, and unless the dub is unbearably bad (or if I like Japanese dub more, which is rare), then I will always go that route. Being able to see a good anime is great, but being able to see a good anime in my native language, for me, is better. A lot of people hate on dubs because dub actors supposedly lack 'passion', and while I can agree for some actors, there are a lot of VA's who love what they do. For example, take a look at Crispin Freeman! He's been in the anime industry for a loooong time, and he still continues to talk to the fans and even discuss certain shows intellectually (i think he even has this mythology thing of Eva.. I think..). He even has a VA podcast and has a class for teaching people how to Voice Act, so if that's not passion, then I don't know what is. Another reason is that people may be miscast..yeah, that's happens. Well, that also happens in Japanese dubs and in real life movies and TV shows. People complaining about that in dubs should take a reality check. |

Also foreign idioms and other cultural idiosyncrasies are difficult to translate and often sound awkward when voiced in English. In this case it isn't necessarily a bad dubbing but a language barrier. Even subs can sound awkward at times, but yea i don't want them to hear the awkwardness. Native language + subs > dubs for any foreign medium *shrugs* without dubs anime will never stop being a niche medium. Implying anime fans want anime to become mainstream and shit like video games have become... I personally want anime to stay a niche medium so the quality has a chance to be good instead of just trying to make as much money as possible. Look at anime of the last view years. Most of it was pandering shit because they all need to make money. But the rare few good ones are still in there because anime is still not the huge Mainstream that other things (like video games) are. weak said: http://myanimelist.net/people/611/Brandon_Potter http://myanimelist.net/people/159/Monica_Rial Brandon and Monica are in every dub ever. But with the industry downturn in 2007 and the subsequent global recession, many companies shut down or stopped doing dubs. The dubs that remain tend to be more of "assembly-line" dubs, dubbing 12-13 episodes at a time where they used to do 3-5. And in the case of Sentai, they just gave up on scriptwriting and started doing rushed subtitle script readthroughs.Correction: Most dubs since 2006 have been amazing. Fuck Sentai's dubs. They need to hire some actual English script writers. Do people actually buy Sentai's anime for their dubs anyway? I'm curious as to how much Sentai actually profits from one of their typical lazy dubs. |

Sung-Hwan said: Are you a Japanese viewer? If not, by just casting aside a dub for being a dub you're not only missing out on enjoyment of quality voice acting, you're being a weeaboo. Why did I respond to this kid lmao. Wow how I hate these arguments. A) Not all anime are dubbed. Actually only a small % are. And new anime are never dubbed and take a while. B) Not everyone is from fucking UK/US/AUS/NZ/SA/CA and speaks english as their first language (And therefor also doesn't have access or any emotional attachment to english dubs). C) You are not a weeaboo for liking a medium in its original form. If an american guy/girl would watch Avatar the last Airbender in japanese dub, that would be weeaboo. D) "not only missing out on enjoyment of quality voice acting" Same can be said about anyone who misses out on the JAPANESE quality of voice acting. |

Probably because I don't wanna watch it and generally hate everything the guy ever made. But you know ONE anime out of 30+ every season isn't really what you'd think of as a rule. |

gamer2710 said: Well you want them to make more shows dubbed first, then it doesn't matter if you like it or not. Eventually they would make one that appeals more to you. Right now it's just about supporting the format.IntroverTurtle said: I would but it's not the type of show that interests me. Plus I don't have TV any more. Do that on multiple computers and ask everyone you know to leave their tvs and computers on at that time. |

| I think Space Dandy is the wrong anime for this "American airing first" project. Should've gone with something more historical than an ecchi-ish space fantasy. |

I haven't watched the second episode yet, but the first episode was very lackluster.
