Why do so many people dislike SAO? Its been pretty damn good so far. I really liked this episode.

Because nothing is happening besides boring side stories. It's only because I just saw someone say that the main story starts in episode 8 that I decided not to drop this. I want to see a nice story developing, I want to see Kirito grow as a character, not him in random episodes between which his has his growth. Every new episode he jumps about 20 levels or so and a floor or 10. That is not interesting for me to watch, I want to know what kind of things there are in that world, what monsters, what environments, etc. I want to see him struggle with the world at first only to grow in the strong player he is right now. If he is such a loner, why bother with some stray character each new episode? They give no explanation for this. In the first episode he seemed like a coldhearted person who wanted to do everything by himself, but the next episode he's helping some girl and her guildmates...
Really, it's only because someone just mentioned the story starting at episode 8, so if after that I still get to see random short intervals of the whole setting, then I'm through with this.

i have to agree with you a little there, this is mainly due to the anime being in chronological order and not the non-linear order like the light novels, it can get confusing because in the light novels they do a big 1.5 year timeskip with flash backs and sidestories to fill in the gaps

the anime however is having to do timeskips almost in every other episode to do them in chronological order, which can lead to confusions, like how kirito said he will be a solo player only to join a guild the very next episode when someone who has read the LN would know that kirito was lonely and loved the company of the black cats so he didn't want to leave them, in the anime they show the timeskip but they give no explanation as to how kirito felt during those two months like the LN however it all comes together later anyway so i strongly recommend you finish the first cour (12 episodes) before you consider dropping it

Thanks for the info! That explains a lot. Alright, I'll finish the first 12 episodes before actually deciding to drop this or not. I really hope I don't want to anymore after those 12 episodes, because I like the concept of the LN/anime.
Thanks, you've been a real help! ^^

I'm not familiar with today's MMORPGs, so what's the most popular one today?

Upcoming Guild Wars 2 (Free To Play MMO, Releases this month, successor to 7 million played Guild Wars 1)
World Of Warcraft (Pay To Play, outdated by 7 years, yet still the most played mmo)
Star Wars The Old Republic ( Pay To Play, Slowly dying out even though it's been out for a little bit than year)
Secret World
Terra Online ( Japanese Style , Pay To Play)

He never slept with a girl before until Asuna.

Read the LN. The anime didn't put the relationship of Sachi and Kirito to justice. Sachi saw Kirito more of a father figure than lover. They never had any sexual relationships of the kind.

He just comforted her during the Death game. In the LN they never actually sleep together, just in the same room. She slept on the bed and he slept on the floor.

i thought Asuna is the 3rd girl after Sachi(the first one) and Silica(She fall asleep during discussion on the quest). or am i wrong?

And? Why does it matter if its a girl? He meets several girls during SAO. Why does it matter? What are you trying to get at? He's acquainted with like 5 plus. I'm sure you have several friends that are girls, does that make them your harem?

This isn't some harem. Don't get ahead of yourself. If you want to watch a harem, there's like 5 harem series this summer season. SAO isn't one of them.

So we turn police detective now eh? Well whatever I'm glad to see Asuna again. XD

I don't know much about medieval weapons but why do they keep referring to Guilty Thorn as a spear anyway? The handle is just too short, shouldn't they call it a sword then? Kirito said it was kuroi yari (trans. dark spear), so maybe it was intended as a blade for the yari (Japanese blades in the form of a spear). Maybe it's just my oversimplification of the weapon categories, when the handle exceeds the blade length it becomes a spear or something else. LOL Oh well... (runs away from the overzealous LN readers.)

your mistaken, sachi and kirito slept in separate beds in both the LN and anime, silica never slept in the same room as him in the anime but accidentally fell asleep on his bed while kirito slept on the floor in the LN

Just bad art direction. It's suppose to be a spear but it looks more like a decorative sword that's really flat and half a cm thick in the anime.

Guess they wanted the "cool" factor. Suppose to be a shorter black spear with thorn like spikes on it. Perhaps 3/4th or half of the length of a normal spear.

You are correct, it's been a while since I read that side story. Just re-read it for the purpose of clearing things.

I assumed Kirito slept on the floor because he wouldn't have a room with two beds at that time.

After reading some posts here; I'm glad to hear that Sachi and that little girl Kirito helped out (forgot her name :3) didn't really think of Kirito as a "lover" per se, but as a father/big brother only^^ Totally want a Kiri X Asu couple<33

A short spear is usually half the length of a normal spear.

The source of fear for everyone was what stabbed deeply into the man's chest, a black short spear.

The entire spear was made from black-colored gold, and this kind of weapon was really rare. Its length was probably about 1m, and the base had a grip about 30cm long. At the tip of the handle, there was a 15cm long blade.
The special characteristic of this weapon was that the spear itself seemed to be covered with short spikes. Once the spear was stabbed deeply into the enemy, it would create the unique effect of becoming non-removable because of the spikes. A high strength value would be required to pull it out.

Based on the description of the Novel, they have the length about right but the looks is completely wrong. They just drew it wrong for the anime for the "cool" factor.

These animes always tend to confirm something for me, people have no patience and there are always people calling it overrated, the same thing happened with shows like Steins Gate which had a slow start and people criticizing left and right and by the end it got ranked extremely high and others call it overrated *sigh*

In any case for all those clueless people calling these episodes filler these are based on actual chapters in the novel so they aren't filler, also despite your half thought posts these episodes do have purpose and that is character introduction and development, is it rushed, of course it is but for the who knows how many time it's to be expected, all these people who keep saying its rushed likely never have read any novels outside of SAO because otherwise they would notice its normal, just look at how horrible Campione is being adapted or how mediocre a amazing novel like TAMNI became when animated, if u make your expectations realistic u will enjoy it more

Also question to LN readers only, do u think that considering The way ALO is structured as compared to SAO that it will be better received when animated? I mean I like SAO way way better (ALO is actually the worst arc for me) but considering all the complaints on the structure on these forums I figured ALO wouldn't have that problem

The "probably about 1m" is just about right for a short spear I think. Assuming the said handle and grip are the same, 30cm grip and 15cm blade is not even half of a meter. Now I'm imagining it as a knife/dagger with a very long handle and... spikes. >_< Ah we're getting off-topic, sorry about that. Anyway thanks for the clarification.

An arc that lasts more then one episode? Yay. <3

I hope the side stories conclude soon so we can at least get a firm grip back on the real "plot." This was a lot better paced then the previous episodes and I have a feeling that pretty soon these side stories will be concluding. Not the best episode by far, episode one still takes the cake on that, but it's at least better then everything else we've seen so far.

Now, to read the novels tonight.

I am baffled why they adapt it chronologically... Those side stories kinda of work in LN (though I dislike most of them personally), because they provide more info about characters and world reader is already interested in.

Yes, the time skip to floor 74 would be confusing, but it worked in novel, why it would not work in anime? People still liked it. And then they craved for other stories.

Still waiting for the main story.

Honestly, SAO is pretty similar to Horizon in terms of dropping people into a world without any infos. So many people dropped Horizon just because they "demand" info about what's going on.

I imagine the peoples reaction would be the same with SAO if they start from floor 74, that's why they decided to do it chronologically, which doesn't work well either to the nature of the writing of Vol 2 that was intentional written as explanations and prequels.

Good to see Asuna again. At least her and Kirito are getting along better.
Yet another girl dies in this series. I really wonder how this murderer is doing it.

LN Readers STOP BITCHING AROUND ABOUT SIDE STORIES its part of the plot and it shows the changing of the personalities of the main character's and explains the game

At this point the ones whining and complaining are the ones who haven't read the LN.

Yes, the time skip to floor 74 would be confusing, but it worked in novel, why it would not work in anime? People still liked it. And then they craved for other stories.

Honestly, SAO is pretty similar to Horizon in terms of dropping people into a world without any infos. So many people dropped Horizon just because they "demand" info about what's going on.

I imagine the peoples reaction would be the same with SAO if they start from floor 74, that's why they decided to do it chronologically, which doesn't work well either to the nature of the writing of Vol 2 that was intentional written as explanations and prequels.

i dont have to read the LN to Be able to enjoy the anime, in every episode discussion there's pepol whining and complaining about how its rushed and how it's suppose to be... Guess what
ITS THEIR ANIME they can do whatever they want to it and its still great.

I don't really mind all the LN posters tbh, it's like... after I watch Ep5... I come to this thread and get Ep5.1 (to fill the gaps) off the posts. Lol. Though some are over doing it with spoilers and discussion of future episodes which tends to get annoying. That's what messages or profile comments are for. Try to keep those discussions to a minimal or away from thread.

/clicks a lot of spoiler tags to see answers to question people ask about the episode and end up finding people talking about stuff that hasn't even happened yet in future episodes/novel chapters.
/hasn't read the novel.

The one thing I will say that is in agreement with the LN posters is that I agree that it feels rushed. Well, maybe not so much rushed, but fragmented. I have not read it and even I can tell you that it feels like there are too many gaps in-between each episode. There are a lot of things that make me wonder how the story reached that point. Hell, even in this last episode, I wondered, what the hell is going on in the first few minutes and then it seemed like the story went in yet another direction.

I won't rip on this series too badly because it is a very enjoyable series thus far. However, I have to agree that this seems like a great series that's way too fragmented due to making accommodations for the length of the anime in comparison to the manga.

I really want to start reading the light novel... but I can't get into it.

anyways... this episode takes place around a week and a half after the events of Episode 4. We finally see Asuna again who appears to have constant arguments with Kirito. I wonder whether their levels are similar since they are part of the strongest guild in Aincrad... right?

I plan on reading the light novel this week to catch up to the anime... I tried to read the manga and although the dialogue was similar to the anime... It was sooooo Boring

What? When did he join? Either I wasn't paying attention or he isn't in a guild (anymore, Ep3.). o___o

Nope, Kirito isn't in a Guild, he's a strong Soloist.

similar levels maybe, but He's not in a guild.
