I have had this anime on my To Watch list for years....and now I am so glad that I came around to watching it. The Monogatari style of dialogue and art is refreshing and so entertaining. I don't mind the long dialogues at all.... in fact it is a trip down memory lane with reference to the Monogatari series.

Why don't they show what the characters are tallking about instead of just showing them talk, especially when it's allmost only dialogue, this was so fucking boring.

The character designs and more simplistic art style are what drew me into trying this series, so I'm hoping to see more of it in the future. Episode one had enough on that front to intrigue but not sell me because rather than showing off the character models, the camera focus kept defaulting to closeups of faces. It just wasn't very interesting visually, particularly when combo'd with the long sequences of unnatural dialogue. My impression is that I was listening to a bunch of good voice actors reading off a series of individual conversations from a book they liked rather than watching an actual adaptation of that book to screen. I enjoy novels and audiobooks, but the question I kept asking myself is why they went for these simplified designs when they don't seem inclined to use them and why this had to be an anime in the first place.

But a story about a collecting swords with a cute art style and some historical fantasy vibes sounds fun enough to keep on with for at least a while, and I'm interested in seeing how the series will play with 50 minute episodes for its entire run, so I'll continue on.

I was really unsure about starting a series made of 12 extra long episodes, but this first one went by pretty fast.
At first it was pretty confusing due to the amount of dialogues (and I'm saying that as someone who can handle Monogatari's dialogues relatively easily),but I got used to it after a while.
About the story, it's intriguing, I can't say I'm completely engaged yet but I'm curious to see what it will lead to.
About the characters, I really like Togame who seems to be a pretty unique character. Shichika annoyed me at first due to how dense this guy is, but it is understable considering his story and while not remarkable, it makes him pretty interesting to follow. His sister reminds me a bit too much of too many imouto characters but I'm willing to give her a chance. About the ninja, I found that a bit of a shame that he's been treated as a joke because I like his ability, however Shichika beating him without even realizing who that was made me laugh. I just hope we'll get to see the other ninjas, I'm interested in their story.
And of course, the art is very good, I love the character designs.

So overall, I didn't fall in love with this episode and it's gonna take a bit of time for the show to truly grow on me but I already like it, I'm interested to see how everything will unravel.

I thought they did a pretty good job of adapting the whole novel in only 50 minutes, although they did change up the order of the prologue a little bit. I have to say I thought the art would be a bit better though, maybe a bit more stylised. I think Science Saru could have done a bit better in that regard, as well as the ost. After all, Heike Monogatari turned out really good and has a style I would have really liked to see Katanagatari in. That aside, I did like what they did with the Shichika Hachiretsu. I pictured it being more like Kenshin's Kuzu-ryu-sen but I liked the emphasis they placed on each separate attack. I was a bit jarred at them having different translation for the sword names, and the fact that they basically spoiled Ento the Bead was a bit strange.

This must've been incredibly easy to animate, just pose the characters sitting or standing and then animate nothing but their mouths for the next 10 minutes because all they do is talk. Guess the director/writer never heard of "show, don't tell". It felt like I read through half a novel with all those subtitles and I still don't know what exactly is going on with all the name drops of characters I don't know. To be honest I thought this sucked but it's well rated so maybe now that all the exposition dump is over it'll get better.

Well this first episode slaps. I hope the rest go just as hard.

As expected, it is dialogue-heavy, but for me personally I found it engaging throughout unlike the monogatari series which honestly did have me zoning out from time to time. Still, it looks like each of these 50-minute episodes will be packed, so it's not going to be a binge-watch for me. Perhaps one or two episodes a day for this one.

From first impressions, I think this will be an 8/10 anime for me.

I tried to watch this but having the actors basically do an audiobook with barely anything happening on the screen was tedious but the part when the white haired girl asked questions she assumed the guy should know the answers but doesn't so she can get shocked after starting rambling was soooo bad because its timing was nonexistent like a poorly adapted scene from a book without actually trying to adapt it.

Had to fast-forward until the action started and  well that was underwhelming, might not even count that I watched this.

Only just started watching this show (currently on episode 2) but am loving it so far. I don't mind the fact that it's very heavy on the dialog because the writing and characters are so good (if the writing was bad then the dialog would be a real pain).

Also love the art style.

And a double bonus - each episode is 47 minutes long so even though there are 12 of them we are effectively getting 24 normal length episodes, so no complaints from me.

I actually liked this a lot, Monogatari writing but mostly without that weird pervy shit from monogatari. I like that it’s 47 minutes long like a lot of Western TV.

The character designs and artstyle are very pleasing to look at.

I've had this anime on my watch list for quite some time, and I finally am giving it a watch. I was actually worried about how I'd feel about this anime since I've heard many say how the amount of dialogue can be a turn-off for many and how the pacing might feel relatively slow. After watching this episode for the first time, I am officially hooked!

This was an excellent start for the story that will behold as we go on! I thought it did great to introduce us to the characters, their backgrounds, the setting and time it takes place, and the entire aspect of why the swords are meant to be a big deal! The dialogue was pretty neat and didn't feel long for the most part. If anything, it helped give us all the information needed about each of the swords and some lore of mysterious characters who used to help Togame collect them but decided to part away from her as they each found one. I also liked how humorous the dialogue was, especially with some of the interactions between Shichika and Togame. It seemed natural and gave us an idea of how the characters behave.

I also got to say that the choreography in the fight scenes was pretty well made! With that said, the moments that showed an epic fight sequence and then made the characters stay within those poses as they talked made me wait for the fight to continue. It seemed that it was bound to happen at any moment, but they just kept on talking instead (not sure if it was to troll the viewer in anticipation or something, lol.) It's also to note that I already knew beforehand that the anime is meant to focus more on the adventure than the action and that there was gonna be about 15% action with 85% dialogue, but, dang.. the anime somehow still trolled me believing the fight was going to continue when really, they wouldn't stop talking. Even so, the dialogue was still engaging in those moments.

I also love the look of the anime. I love the characters' designs, including how their clothing is made, how their eyes look, and how their hair is done. I also love how the environments look with the lovely watercolor aesthetic that they bring out! This anime gives out a storybook feeling and it made me love the art style when I first discovered it. It definitely was something I was looking forward to seeing how it went animated.

Overall, I have to say that I've had this anime on hold for so long, and after finally watching the first episode, I can officially say that I can't wait to continue the journey! (which I'll be doing by watching one episode per month since apparently that's an intended way to watch it... DAH, CAN'T WAIT A MONT- *next week is October* -oh... right... good, good..)

Author thinks he's witty with all the dialogue but what actually being shown is that he's a talentless hack. At least he knows how to sell his moe girls to otaku audience. Was swayed with appealing character designs but considering to drop the show now. Boooooring
