don't know maybe generous. i used to score things high like a bad for me would have been a 6 and average was 7 but over time, i start to lower the scores because i feel like it is not accurate, so now i sometimes give 2-5, which i didn't do before. so some scores u see on my list (generally ova and specials) could be lower than what it is. but i haven't given a 1 yet, so i still think im generous with my scores.

I would say I have a solid mix, I am harsh and also generous for different shows depending on how I enjoyed it.

My Mean Score is 7.48. Actually it's rather difficult for me to watch something that is badly exposed. The few times it happened I've been really harsh with score and review!

I said short OVA's (...) I don't think those are good examples.
That's the point, there are no "good examples". Moving goal posts isn't helping. I don't even think you can compare entries of the same format (say 1-cour TV) fairly between genres. For example, Non Non Byori is almost impossible to rate fairly, as it intentionally abandons character development and plot worth the name (no, forgetting your school bag in the bus is not considered real plot). I really like it, purely enjoyment based rating would be much higher. But would that be fair to other series who bother to have plots and developing characters in the same limited 1 cour? Not really.

I gave everything that wasn't a stand out series 1/10's for a while though, had a mean score of 1.45 with 80% 1/10's.
Yes, and you from time to time groom. I wasn't speaking of any particular state of your list, just of the general approach to push below average material very low and by this spread out the rating range for material you like. That's the opposite of what most people do, they squeeze what they like into just 10-7. The irony is that under normalization, that diminishes the positive impact of their votes. Being generous by handing out high numerical votes is a dreadful illusion, as it results in very small deltas to average.

It seems like you trying to have some objective rating of quality and not just rate based on what you enjoy. Or strengths of other series.. You can't give No No Byori a positive rating because it doesn't have much plot or much character development? It just has different strengths. Not everything needs to be legend of the galactic heroes or strive for what is does. Some anime are about comedy, some about relaxing, some about the characters or drama.

I don't believe objective ratings exist, to start with. But I'm trying to avoid both completely technical and completely enjoyment based ratings. NNB ends on a 6/10 this way, same as e.g. Aria the Animation, but higher than e.g. So Ra No Wo To or Tamako Market - both similar w/r to CGDCT and iyashikei nature and 5/10s. Still, NNB can't reach Natsume Yuujinchou (7/10), Aria the Natural (8/10) or K-On!! (9/10) because these manage to have moe and/or healing, but also strong char development and a story.

The thought process here is I like NNB, so it ends up above average based on enjoyment. But comparing it within it's peer group, it ends up only average. And just having a complex story alone doesn't help either when I don't enjoy a show or think the story is stupid. Both Fate/Zero and Babylon are rated lower than NNB.

Okay, must have liked it more than you. I gave both seasons an 8/10, but gave K-on a 9/10. I ended up giving Aria the Origination only 8/10 as well. It had better characters, stronger emotional ending. I just think NNB was actually slightly more enjoyable with better comedy. My rating usually go off enjoyment more than anything. Which is why i probably don't get many anime in 1-5 scale. That would be watching something boring or not enjoyable, so it was probably dropped.

Healing/Moe shows at 4/10 or lower in my book are e.g. Nekopara, Helpful Fox Senko-San, Gabriel DropOut, Nyanko Days and so on. I enjoy them, but am aware that they are wish fulfillment at the same time, with generic and unoriginal story and characters. A 4/10 is something I can enjoy a lot still as a fan of the genre(s). Only 3/10 and worse is sort of painful even if you like the genre, at least I use it that way.

I think I was pretty generous back then, but the more anime I watch, I feel like I'm getting harsher with my scoring...

I'm very generous. I rate purely on enjoyment, and only from a scale of 5-9 to make life easy.
Keep it simple, stupid.

Generous as long as the anime/manga doesn't piss me off.

My system is mostly yes or no.

AA (animation/art) 2pts
C (characters) 2pts
PD (plot and development) 2pts
S (Satisfaction) 4pts

Most of anime I watch gets auto 2pts on AA since I'm not that picky with art and animation so there's hardly anything that'll go below 2 pts. Most C and PD get automatic 1 if I finish the anime unless it's just particularly bad or negative in vibe then I'd deduct pts. S is my enjoyment 3 and 4 are high, 2 is the middle and mostly likely an anime that I just finished for the sake of finishing.

My current mean is 6.7

How I view the scoring system.

6 and down. «I do not recommend, If you still want to watch it the lower score the more flaws you find»

7 I recommend if you are into the synapsis.

8 I recommend if you are into the genre.

9 I recommend to all anime watchers.

10 I would recommend to anyone.

I am generous as my average is above 7, but that’s because I rarely watch shows below 7.

Hmm, I don't really understand this. A lot of my highly-rated anime I don't think I can recommend to many viewers. To me, it's an amazing anime but I feel that most anime fans would not be interested. For example, Nodame Cantabile and Space Brothers.

Generous, all the way.

I value the experience more and ratings are pretty much just numbers at the end of the day.
