Zenny is pretty chill
“I love heroes, but I don't want to be one. Do you even know what a hero is!? For example, you have some meat. Pirates will feast on the meat, but the hero will distribute it among the people! I want to eat the meat!” - Monkey D. Luffy

I mean the guy's walking around with a pirate captain's coat and has a half built pirate ship. Would be hard to believe that he wasn't a pirate.

I was unhappy with how the Straw Hats worked for goat man so quick. Nami could have felt bad and told Sanji to help him, or she could have tried to get something out of doing it which she might have since she had the suspicion he was a former pirate. Usopp should have been hesitant but yelled at into doing it out of fear. Zoro did what I think he would have by denying and going to find food on his own. And Luffy... I don't know but he was just helping, I wish there was something more for that. What I mean is I think the lack of character depth in filler really shows, what would have normally been a moment that showed all the Straw Hats differences became a rushed in plot.

I liked the detail that Chopper refused to leave old guys side since he's Chopper's patient and similar to Doctorine he seems to hold the motto "my patients are either cured by my side, or die by my side" as we saw her with Nami.

More 1D seeming Navy villains to be bored of immediately. These types of characters are easily the worst in One Piece. It's as if the method is to copy and paste them when we need a villain in the story but don't want to put any thought into them. Perhaps this new one is different but I'm not hopeful.

This filler is placed horribly. It's shocking to think they'd put filler in right after introducing a new character like this. We have no meaningful development or understanding of her and she solely tags along. One Piece did something amazing by making Chopper feel like he was always a part of the crew, that was done through paying a lot of attention to him. To introduce a new member, shove her in the unimportant background of filler stories, and make the ED about her is shockingly bad. It's also why moments like where she caught the kid Sanji cooked with, or in this episode where she questioned Nami's logic about him being a pirate stand out. It's at least something.

Last thing, the filler has forgotten that a talking humanoid reindeer is weird as vigorousjammer brought up. As did they seem to forget the entire structure of sailing in the Grand Line with a log pose. The individual filler stories are alright but all this stuff makes them pretty awful in where they're placed and how they contradict the story.

These Straw Hats are just too sweet, going through all that effort to make that guy's last three days the best days he'd had for a very long time. I'm keen on finding out about his glory days as a pirate and his treasure soon enough.

That slit-eyed Marine knows what's up. I wonder how far the truth behind who took care of Crocodile is spread among the Marines.

I don't mind these filler episodes, they're fun. Chopper is such a great doctor and the crew is kind to keep in good spirits for the old man.

I’m still not use to robin being on the team. Especially since she normally just reading her book. I’m so eager for more of her backstory.

Yeah I think I can understand why some people just want the next main arc to start because to be fair the filler arcs in-between Alabasta is awkwardly placed here. I can understand that Oda at the time was probably doing the chapters that would become the Jaya and Skypiea arcs but was either in the process of doing them or wasn't finished with them and couldn't release them publicly in time before the anime episodes came out hence why there's quite a lot of filler but at the same time it's weird how we get these episodes and yet no development on Nico Robin who's about the only member of the Straw Hats that's not really interacting with anyone else or playing a big part in the stories that these episodes have had so far. My guess is, that maybe they are saving stuff for those arcs once these filler episodes are done but I could be mistaken there.

Anyways we are going to be dealing with an ol' man named Zenny who happens to an ex pirate. Seems to be a fun one if not a bit on the grouchy side which makes sense considering he's been on that island for years now. Funny how we've now had two island hermits in this series, Gaimon being the first of course. Not much say but we are essentially continuing with this filler arc for a bit and then moving on.
