A friend and I were linking each other good jazz songs and he linked me the Bebop opening. I downloaded the whole thing and loved it. That was 3 or 4 years back. I haven't been watching it for that long I suppose. Never really watched any of the childhood shows, or any shounen. Never got into them at least.

I had torn my ACL and I had surgery so I was stuck in bed for a while. I had a netflix account and my both my brother and mother were already anime fans at the time so I thought I would check one out. It didn't immediately hook me but I found a string of series that interested me and landed up starting to really like anime.

Chronologically, I started watching DBZ. Then, some years later I started with Pokemon. After that, I started with Digimon (one anime I liked quite a lot!) and If I remember correctly that’s when I became familiar with the “Anime” concept. That established somehow my journey through this world.

When I was little, my sister was watching Sailor Moon and I sometimes watched it with her (only a couple episodes, though). On 6th grade I suddenly remembered the show and wanted to watch it myself. I've been watching anime ever since.

I think the first anime I've seen was on toonami (satellite TV), I can't remember but I think the first anime was Escaflowne which was damn amazing I was about 7 years old possibly younger and that show was kick ass with the whole dragon slaying, giant mecha that looks like a knight, war and shizz I was pretty much hooked. I can also grew up watching DBZ and Sailor Moon

Probably most of us used to watch anime as a kid (like Dragon Ball, One Piece...), but what I mean is: how did you start watching anime and how did you got hooked on it? Have you always liked anime or was it a friend who suggested it to you? As for me, apart from the anime I used to watch in my childhood (during which time I didn't know it was anime, I thought they were merely "cartoons"), I've been watching anime for a year and half. It was after I had watched several american series (like Gossip Girl, Supernatural...) that I realized I was getting bored of them. I was in a literature forum back then and I was chatting with a girl when she started talking about how I should give a try to anime, because it was very different to usual american series... I was quite suspicious at first, because I always thought "those cartoons are for kids". She promised me they weren't and, for some reason, I decided to believe her. She recommended two: Code Geass and Death Note, but told me to begin with Death Note. It was weird, because it was obviously not for kids and yet, they were cartoons! I couldn't understand it. I needed some time to get used to it, but eventually, I realized I'd found what I was looking for... So what about you guys? Talk about your experience!

I started watching because of Toonami on cartoon network when I was younger. Also, those Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki film's were really cool. I missed all of that stuff and decided to watch anime again.

The characters are pretty different but the plot is similar: seven people are selected to fight and there can only be one winner. Personally I prefer Fate/Zero (it's the prequel of Fate/Stay Night, btw). |

Well I watched stuff like DBZ and Zoids after school but I never thought it was anime. Pokemon, Digimon and Yugioh I don't count because to me they're more of a franchise than an anime. Anyway, I didn't get into anime until I started watching Inuyasha, then watching most of the other animes that aired on Adultswim's block. I then started to play Halo 2 pretty often and would search up music videos for it, watched HMV Hell, and the creator said it was based off AMV Hell 3, and I said I'd only watch 5 minutes of it. 5 minutes turned into watching the entire thing..... After that, there were many animes that I was interested in that appeared in it that I had to look them up and start watching them. After that, while steadily watching the anime block on Adultswim, I was introduced into a larger world of anime and since then it's become one of my biggest hobbies.

I did start watching anime by watching tons of harem and ecchi genre anime since the usual cliches on every harem and ecchi genre anime back then were news to me and found it very hilarious. Until then that I was used to it, I tried to look for some more and different genres that they would seemed more enjoyable than harem and ecchi genre anime.

I've always been interesting in Japanese culture since I was a little kid (before I knew what anime was) and I think when I discovered anime it was around the time when I thought that I was "too old" for western cartoons, despite loving them so much. So anime was a nice center point for me. I also watched a lot of anime as a kid without actually knowing that it was anime, like Cardcaptors and Sailor Moon.

I wanted to reminisce about the days i watched DBZ on TV so i started to look at clips and episodes online. As there was a massive list of anime, I then started to randomly click on anime episodes and thought i should watch a new one. Eventually clicked on Hajime no Ippo, watched the first episode and fell in love with it 10/10! Then i watched naruto, then another anime, then another, then another...........

To be perfectly honest... I came across an AMV of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu where they groped mikuru's boobs. I thought it was sexy and watched the whole series :) But really getting in to anime was thanks to a friend I met on vacation last year who recommended me Soul Eater and Gurren Lagann, after that I began looking for more anime.

And the pointless fillers don't help much. OT; I used to be an avid anime hater. I never watched one, but I still hated it. I couldn't fathom how I could like something in a language I couldn't understand. I couldn't understand how people could like such things. Then, one day. I got a USB stick from my friend. It was during the exams and I was bored of studying. I checked through the USB stick and found 6 video files. Three were labeled Code Geass and the other 3, Darker Than Black. Thinking nothing could be worse than studying, I clicked open Code Geass and gave it a try. I watched through the three episodes and I couldn't understand what the fuck was going on. But I loved it. Both CG and DtB. And that's how I failed my examsstarted watching anime. Btw, it was R2 I watched, so it was obvious how I couldn't understand what the shit was going on. |

I have early memories of watching the later seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX on YouTube and they were the times of my childhood, I then downloaded, but never finished Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls around about early 2012 (Or was it 2011 O.O), I'm pretty sure it was later (It could have been earlier) that year that I watched the first season of Inazuma Eleven and a bit of the second. Still I think that I started doing it as a hobby at around October last year when I started watching Neon Genesis Evangelion on halloween (I think), I lurked around 4chan's anime board for a month before that because I admit I was getting bored of video games; and around that time there was a lot of discussion of Chu-2 on there. So I picked it up some days into November, and that's when I started following seasonal anime. TL;DR I have no idea.

I think when I found MAL. Anime here in the Netherlands isn't really big, so my exposure to anime is very limited. I recently became interested in anime again and googled around a bit for some titles. I ended up on the IGN boards of all places and had a few titles that sounded ok. I used Anime News Network as a reference site and dabbled around there to find some good titles. However the interface felt very unintuitive and I just didn't like the forums. Somehow I stuck around on MAL for a few minutes, even though the site looks completely bland and unprofessional and soon had a whole list of titles that didn't seem only interesting but actively made me excited to start watching and discover new anime. Even after quite a few months on here, I still find my myself surprised at the genius of this site. The template of this site should just be applied to all forms of media.
