What is your absolute favorite video game? What you hate & love about it and why its special to you, is there something unique about it that's never been seen in other video games? If its in a series of video games such as sequels or prequels how does it compare to the others; what are you're thoughts on its mechanics, story, characters, music, and whatever else you can think of? I would just like to read every ones passionate thoughts & opinions on their single favorite game. I don't care how long it is go crazy, would like to read it all.

I have multiple "absolute favorites" in my games list. 1) Need for Speed: High Stakes - The first racing game that I ever played which had night driving, weather and car damage that realistically affected the performance in-game while also requiring money to repair them. It was probably the last game in the franchise that ever truly tested the driving skill of the player as later entries did not feature these parameters at all. And the high stakes race was simply a revolutionary concept at that time. The nervousness when you go into a high stakes race knowing that you could lose your car and would need to replay many tournaments just to buy that car again always had you on the edge. While not perfect given that it's a 1999 game, if this was remade today with cops also included in career mode, I would say it would be the best racing game ever made 2) Warcraft 3 - Amazing story, great concept of hero abilities, 4 diverse races with different approaches to the game. What's there not to love? While the graphics might look a bit cartoonish, the story is anything but. In fact, some really tough scenes take place that hits the player with the moral dilemma and tough decision making that the characters have to face. It is simply the best RTS that I have ever played. Even better than AoE series. 3) Diablo 2 - Again, amazing story and very different playable classes with unique skills. The variety and complexity of character skills as well as items hit just the right spots between enjoyment and challenge. Later games like PoE and Last Epoch, although great games in their own right, never truly managed to hit that golden balance between complexity and simplicity that Diablo 2 did. And the music in this game is just pure genius. Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment when watching the cutscene where Tyrael destroys the worldstone after completing the game in Hell difficulty with your budget build and an epic struggle against Baal 4) Roadrash - The funniest game ever made. No other game has ever managed to make people laugh so hard even if it's the player who fell of the bike. Fights with other bikers, kicking them onto oncoming cars or obstacles on the sides of the road and knocking down cops is what everyone plays this game for. Not for winning the races. There are some bugs in the game that only serve to make the experience even more hilarious. If anyone is ever stressed out with their life, this game is the perfect stress buster 5) Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) - A very good remake of the Hot Pursuit series, this one contains more car variety, option to play as both racer as well as cops and probably the first game ever to introduce pursuit tech for both racers as well as cops. This game is pretty hard to beat as the margin for error is quite small compared to previous and future NFS titles. The cop mode is actually harder than the racer mode but still enjoyable 6) Pocket Tanks - A very small and simple game that most people probably have never heard of. It's basically 2 tanks taking turns to hit the enemy with different weapons and after 10 turns, whoever has the highest score wins. The entertainment from this game comes because of two reasons. One is the terrain/wind. You have to take them into account when aiming at the enemy tank. Another is the weapons themselves. There is a huge variety of weapons. Not all of them are a direct offense weapon. You have to understand the functions of each weapon to get the best use of it. Depending on the situation, using a particular weapon on yourself might be the best decision to make. The single player mode has you fighting against an AI tank while you can also play with other people using the multiplayer option 7) Captain Claw - An adventure game developed in 1997. This game has colorful graphics, variety of enemies, architecture of the stages and a simple but effective story. It is also one of the hardest games I have ever played. Most people who played this have apparently never managed to beat the final boss of the original 1.0 version. This was so infamously difficult that the later patches had to make the boss easier to defeat but overall it's still pretty challenging to beat. The gameplay blends well with the story with cutscenes providing the rest of the story's narration between stages. Although cartoonish with bright colors, this game is real fun to play

Ori and the Blind Forest. It's just a very beautiful game (music & art style) and a very entertaining metroidvania with a sad but compelling story. The sequel is fantastic too, and the gameplay there is even better, but I prefer the story from the first game.

Having played 400+ games it's kinda hard to pick one. I'm thinking between Rimworld and Kenshi, but if I really had to pick, I would say Kenshi. Its' the ultimate open-world sandbox rpg. World is massive and there's no loading screens. Multiple cities with different factions you can overthrow (ehem holy nation) It's not your normal rpg, you level up by doing actions. For example, at the start of the game- you're weak as fuck. A single bandit can kill you. So you start running barefoot, and loot some foods from houses you come into. You run.. and run until your Athetics skill levels up enough to outrun bandits. Good, you can now start provoking bandits and luring them into towns where there are city guards. Loot the dead's equipments, equip them and sell the rest. But wait, you're overweight from the armor? Good now start mining some ores and put the ores in your bag, and start running with 100kg stones on your backpack. That will train your Str and increase your weight (and damage) Do this for like an hour and you'll be strong enough to kill a single bandit.. Wait what? Yeah because you're lacking toughness. You have lvl 30 Str and Athletics but lvl 1 toughness. A single hit can kill you. So you start by recruiting another guy in town, and level up his athletics and medic skills. Now let your main guy fight a band of bandits and get his ass beat. When he's nearly dead, your medic bursts into the scene and hauls your ass outta there then you leveled your toughness to 5. Congrats you finish the whole day with your main guy only strong enough to beat a single bandit. Now there's lots of anomalies in that world, Leviathans, Hive Kings, Beasts, Fogmen, Robots, Beasts of death, Berserkers. Bandits are the weakest. Repeat these steps, get stronger, hire more people and train them, build a town until you create an army capable of overthrowing Kingdoms. (5:25 to skip the shenanigans.)

It's at the galloping ghost in Chicago. Def worth checking out. It's in a good part of Chicago too with cheap Airbnbs. Some miles south of the airport. I pretty much went for this game alone and KI2. VERY FUN! :D I played thru it a couple times. This last boss fight is INCREDIBLE. Forgive my WHOAAAAAA at the end I was genuinely surprised ;_; Also remixing the original final boss theme ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Searched Vegas a couple times for the Castlevania slot machine, even wrote emails to companies, at least one actually replied and told me it's gone ;_; |

@FrozenLich 1) You convinced me to keep an eye out for Need for Speed: High Stakes at the retro game store. Played a few of the ps1 Need for Speed's, always did free roam but that High Stakes sounds moderately challenging. 2) I played one game of Warcraft 3 never had the opportunity to really get into it, went on the Starcraft road instead. 3) Yeah Diablo 2 good pick, It's either the most or 2nd most played game in my entire life. That game is still the king of the Action RPG genre, some are getting close though. You still play Diablo 2, or have Diablo 2 Resurrected? Which is your favorite character? I like them all aside from the druid. Matt Uelmen is really good at dark foreboding atmospheric music, however I feel the first Diablo soundtrack is far more horror like. So some of the original creators of D2 created Moon Beast Productions and are working on a new ARPG, doesn't have a name yet but keep an eye out if you so choose. 4) Roadrash looks fun, definitely the type of game to make friends hate each other again. The closest I've gotten to a game like that was Downhill Domination, throw water bottles at each other and watch them tumble down the mountain. They even had a mosh pit for Free for All mountain bike combat. Also think the developers of Downhill Domination took direct inspiration from Roadrash. 5) Never stuck with the Hot Pursuit series after the ps1 games. Sounds kind of stressful with small margins of error. 6) You're right I'm one of the many people who hasn't heard of Pocket Tanks. Honestly sounds cooler than Pokemon, the game play reminds me of the Worms series. If you like historical tanks & anime maybe you'll like Girls Und Panzer, I know the name sounds ridiculous. 7) Wow Captain Claw looks like a real hidden gem. Watched some of the cut scene animations they're really good, I love older cartoon animations. Even though the voice acting isn't anything amazing it makes up for with that retro charm. Wish I experienced this game in my childhood. Enjoyed reading your list, like your taste in games.

| @MewMew99 I used to watch my friends sister play Bioshock, she was really bad at handling the jump scares. Never really played it myself but I love the old 60s setting. It's difficult to pick an absolute favorite since my favorites are all the best for different reasons
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Counter-Strike: Source
Super Mario 3/Mario 64
World of Warcraft
Battlefield 2
Europa Universalis/Civilization/Total War
Age of Mythology/Age of Empires 2
Battle for Middle Earth 2
Dragon Age: Origins
I might have to go with WoW. I both love and hate that game but nothing can beat the novelty of playing an MMORPG for the first time back then, and I have so many great memories and got to know so many amazing people because of it. There is massive nostalgia tied to some of the other games too like Mario 64 that I always played with my neighbor, and CS:S which was the first online game that I tried to be really good at together with my best friend at the time, but WoW was truly special and completely changed my view on a lot of things
Edit: I forgot to mention Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver. There are other Pokémon games that are more nostalgic but HG/SS is so incredibly good

@NS2D Now that's definitely a favorite game, you love it and keep playing even when there's things you hate about it. I may have only played WoW once for like 20 minutes but I understand the novelty of ones first MMORPG. First one I did was Runescape, which gave me burnout from MMO's if I hadn't played that it would've been WoW. Good to hear you have good memories and met amazing people. Good ol Leeory Jenkins. You mentioned Total War is there a specific one or Total War in general? Wasn't able to play Age of Mythology but some of my friends love that game, one of which told me about a game where they trained hundreds of camels for trade. The enemy showed up expecting an army and got camels instead. Like your list unfortunately I've only experienced Zelda Ocarina of time, Civilization, Total War, and Age of empires. I have a friend that praises Battlefield 2 all of the time so it must be good. Thanks for sharing.

@pludel2 Recently obtained Final Fantasy X & X-2, still trying to make time to play them. My first experience with FFX was when I rented it for a weekend from the video store, was a very fun 2 days of nonstop playing. Getting a Zanarkand Abes Logo tattoo's really shows how ingrained your love for FFX is. Never delved into the Persona series, never hear anything negative about them. Used to play KH with my sister unfortunately she lost interest at a certain point and I ended playing alone but that KH nostalgia runs deep. Ah Star Wars Battlefront 1&2, used to kill my AI teammates until I was the last one alive to 1 vs the rest. These two games are still at the peak of Star Wars games.

So you like Pokemon Showdown huh, what are some of your favorite Pokemon teams you've made on there? Was always a fan of making theme teams.

@Slayers363 I only play randbats because I prefer having different teams every battle. However, I built lots of individual Pokemon for fun.

Having played 400+ games it's kinda hard to pick one. I'm thinking between Rimworld and Kenshi, but if I really had to pick, I would say Kenshi.
Its' the ultimate open-world sandbox rpg. World is massive and there's no loading screens. Multiple cities with different factions you can overthrow (ehem holy nation)
It's not your normal rpg, you level up by doing actions.

That will train your Str and increase your weight (and damage)
Do this for like an hour and you'll be strong enough to kill a single bandit..

@-Shinzo I've never witnessed this unhinged chaotic mad house of a game before and I've really been missing out. Kenshi looks like that jenky old game that always has some sort of entertainment, the humorous enjoyment seems plentiful. Thanks for talking about it.

There's a reason Team Fortress 2 is still alive, even in spite of the lack of a major update. You can play it like a traditional shooter, you can mess around, you can challenge yourself with unique playstyles - its versatility is leagues ahead other FPS games. The only problem is that it's inexplicably hard to learn; it doesn't matter how good you are at shooters, everyone acts like a f2p gibus wearer when they first start. A close second is Monster Sanctuary. It's a great team builder RPG where (nearly) every monster can be competitively viable with the right build / team.

Slayers363 said: Now that's definitely a favorite game, you love it and keep playing even when there's things you hate about it. @Slayers363 I've played it on and off throughout the years. The last time I played it was the classic version of the game about 2 years ago but the guild I was in split up and I kinda lost interest in online games in general Slayers363 said: but I understand the novelty of ones first MMORPG. First one I did was Runescape Ohh I've never played that one myself but I've heard that the classic old school version of that game seem to be popular as well Slayers363 said: You mentioned Total War is there a specific one or Total War in general? I got into the series with Rome Total War but the best one is probably Shogun 2. The Pharaoh one is pretty fun as well Slayers363 said: Wasn't able to play Age of Mythology but some of my friends love that game, one of which told me about a game where they trained hundreds of camels for trade. The enemy showed up expecting an army and got camels instead Haha yeah it can easily look ridiculous when the entire screen is filled with trading caravans Slayers363 said: I have a friend that praises Battlefield 2 all of the time so it must be good. Not sure how it would hold up these days but back then I would play it soooo much. Even when Battlefield Bad Company 2 was out I'd still go back to BF2 every now and then Slayers363 said: Thanks for sharing Thanks for replying :D Merry Christmas! |

I feel very confident in my personal ordering of 1-5, 6-10 the order I feel can swap around but they are definitely in the top 10. He honorable mentions would all just be an 11 for me, too hard to order them. Every game I mention here is a mix of just pure enjoyment, I think the quality is really high and absurd amounts of play time. 1) Fallout (the original 1997 PC game) - I just love pretty much everything about it. The story, setting, characters, leveling, combat, choices, it's just an amazing game. Also having an RPG with that setting and style in 1997 was really unique so it just hit different. 2) Tecmo Super Bowl - Most fun sports game I've ever played. Perfect mix of simple pick up and play / depth and details. 3) Super Mario Kart (SNES) - Played so much battle mode with friends and family 4) Saints Row The Third - The smartest "dumb" game ever. Just an amazing take on the GTA formula. Love roaming this world and all the dumb mayhem you cause. 5) Mass Effect - Maybe my favorite soundtrack of all time. I personally think the original has the best combat. I enjoy the much more RPG elements of the original, plus the set up and story to this grand adventure is something you can't duplicate. 6) Persona 5 Royal 7) Dark Souls 8) Baldur's Gate 3 9) Persona 4 Golden 10) Mass Effect 2 Honorable mentions: Super Mario World, Borderlands, Age of Mythology, Darkest Dungeon, Cyberpunk 2077, Like a Dragon, Megaman 2, DragonAge Origins, Civilization V, Diablo 2, X-Com 2

@Retro8bit Video edits and emotes :D and I think some other small things over the years. btw Mike got a lot of shit from like Reddit communities, but it was mostly based on false pretenses. He actually took a lot of slander that he didn't deserve to protect the reputations of other people: a true stand-up guy. I was very impressed. I think this kinda thing happens a lot in media and content creation, more than we think. There's also a very talented video editor Mike knows, he makes insane 10/10 music videos for him but possibly to keep them "special", Mike doesn't show them often and only on stream. I think there's a heavy influence from the 1980s/90s there, like giving an audience a rare look at something cool, but not milking it as we do today. I haven't watched AVGN since like 2016 ;_; it was my favorite channel BY FAR and fell off so hard D'x classic AVGN, Spoony, and Nostalgia Critic are UNMATCHED forever content :D I'd also make this one of the all time great videos :D Megaman Sequelitis https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2246117

@vault-dweller Quite a list I've only played Super Mario Kart, Borderlands, & Diablo 2. Fallout: That 90s style of games were never really replicated, kind of sad because that was the peak era of RTS games. Tecmo Super Bowl: For some reason I've never touched a football game in my life. Saints Row the Third: I like the fact saints row feels more on the fun side vs GTA Mass Effects: Had a friend during the xbox days always telling me to try it out, unfortunately he wasn't very convincing. Dark Souls: I tried the third one and I was terrible at it, and it kept crashing so I had to drop it. Persona: Its probably the anime video game I see and hear about the most. Baldurs Gate 3: I'm certain this game is great, my friends say its amazing. Good ol game of the year also isn't Dragon Age also a game of the year? Anyway I like your list and enjoyed reading it, thanks for posting.

Metropolismania both 1 and 2. I first found the game in a random pre-owned bin at EB Games around 2004 then randomly I found a new copy of 2 at a Big W. I have played through these games once per year since and have never found myself bored of them. They are so quirky and unique, especially in their genre. There just isn't another game like them. I also have to add Viva Pinata and Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise, for me these are my OG cozy games and are again such a unique experience.

@Shishio-kun You may hate me for this forum brother Shish, but I actually have a little bit of a chip on my shoulders when it comes to AVGN's Castlevania videos. Don't get me wrong they are of good quality. However due to him talking negatively about Castlevania 64 it seems like more people have come to hate the game. They already were hating on it to begin with, but it just made it a whole lot worse. Especially since he was wrong about the nitro section of the game, all you have to do is simply hit the C right button in order to put the items in the correct place. I'm sure he knew this, and I know his videos are solely for entertainment, but when it came to the Castlevania 64 hatred, it only got worse after that video. T_T

@D3ATHP4TCH Metropolismania looked like animal crossing at first glance, but it reminded me of the resort builder in one of the Yakuza games. I'm surprised its a PS2 game and not a PC one. Wow EB Games what a trip back to the past, I don't think they did too well in the US but I preferred them over Gamestop. You seem to like the chill/cozy games, wish I had more of them myself.

@Slayers363 i played a bunch of others - i think the last one i played was Canvas Curse, which came out in '05, but i've also played nightmare in dream land, the amazing mirror, and Air Ride. Kirby 64 is my favorite, and i think it has among the best video game soundtracks ever made. it's pitch-perfect. i'd quote the top voted comment on this video, which said, "This is probably the only song in my adult life that has me react the same way that food critic from Ratatouille did when he took his first bite of Ratatouille"
