One of the most important bits of news for the anime to have come out in recent years in the recent press conference. Reported by the man himself Pew.

Starting in 2026, the anime will release 26 episodes for the entire year, though exactly when will have to be seen: https://x.com/pewpiece/status/1983155194574889432

There will also be a 3 month break starting in January 2026 to allow Toei to recharge: https://x.com/pewpiece/status/1983159748016189470

This will lead into the start of Elbaph in April 2026: https://x.com/pewpiece/status/1983160078481113165

Plus other stuff regarding character designs for OP Heroines and Elbaph Arc were also released.

Toei are finally doing the right thing and doing what's best for the anime's future success and the quality of the Final Saga.

Additional information: Anime will be adapting no less than one chapter per episode.

It’ll be funny to see them run two seasonal anime at the same time that are hundreds of episodes apart

they shouldn't have any excuse not to have better sound effects, consistent animation and adapting sanji properly. Also you would think that if one piece is going seasonal that it would have better pacing but one chapter an episode is crazy work. Also they shouldn't have an issue with weekly dub. Hopefully we get simulub.

I guess they will, otherwise the old and new entries would probably skyrocket to the top of the ranking.

The real reason the studio has halted work on the 26-episode anime is the delay in manga production. The anime is now too close to the current manga chapters and will be postponed until the manga develops.

The studio plans to continue working on One Piece for many years.

it's a good thing for a few reasons and because we can't let the anime catch up to the manga, but also rough when it's the best ongoing thing. the previous break prepared us for more of these though. hopefully they keep cooking hard right now so the next break won't feel too bad. also, i worry for the aging voice actors.

Can’t believe this is finally happening felt like it never would. I know some won’t like it but it’s the best decision for the series and should’ve been done years ago. We will finally get more than one chapter adapted per episode and will finally get rid of the one and only complaint I have ever had for the series and that’s the horrible pacing.

They are aiming to make 1 chapter per episode tho?

Even if they still make it one chapter per episode it can still benefit us in the long run when the manga is 100+ chapters ahead and there's a chance we might get more chapters adapted per episode in the future . Honestly them taking these steps is already a pretty big deal. Even if we don't get more chapters adapted right now we can atleast expect overall good animation with a more healthy production time, although im not sure about the sound design. Overall we still keep winning.

@GTRaijin it is enough material considering early elbaph is very dense and text heavy with material per chapter so here it's ok but most likely when the arc later as it became more action packed there will be more chapters adapted most likely.

Edit: for example when gintama went seasonal as well back when the series was releasing they were also depending on the density of the chapter and how text heavy it was they were adapting 1 to 1.5/2 chapters per episode and then when there were more action chapters or faster paced chapters they were adapting 4 to 5.5 chapters per episode.

even when the alternative formula they were doing with shortening the episodes by implementing recap which was very good, I still think limited run model airing with limited amount of episodes in a year is still the best.

If I’m not mistaken OP fans have been asking for this for years so it’s cool to see it finally happening. I’m wondering if they plan to do this until the manga ends or just until there’s a really wide separation between the anime and manga. I know they’re still gonna do a 1:1 adaptation for now but it would be great if we could eventually go back to the days of getting multiple chapters adapted per episode. Well whatever happens from here, I see no reason for complaints if this change gives animators more production time and leads to better quality and (hopefully) pacing.

Also, committing yourself to over 1100 episodes (and counting) of something you find “garbage” is actual insanity πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

you could easily use the "drop" option if you aren't so interested; it works the same. But then again, you probably just dropped by to hate and move on lol

Here's what's troubling me: given we're only getting two cours per year, that means either:

  1. We get 26 episodes in a row and get a six-month hiatus (starting October 2026) until "Elbaf - Part 2", possibly airing in April 2027;
  2. We get 26 episodes in a row and get a three-month hiatus (starting October 2026) until "Elbaf - Part 2", possibly airing in January 2027;
  3. We get 13 episodes every three months, with each year alternating between airing during spring+fall or winter+summer seasons.

Ngl, the best option imo is number "3" but idk what Toei be thinking at this point.

Also, for the love of god, i beg MAL to NOT separate entries in this case! One Piece = One Entry!

I guess this isn't surprising, but considering they're still planning to adapt 1 chapter an episode I don't see how this will help the anime's biggest problem: the all too often glacial pacing. I thought the last hiatus was gonna help that but, for the most part, it really didn't. There's no reason to think it will this time either. But I get the other factor of keeping Oda ahead. I guess my reaction here is just largely indifference. But hey, maybe the animation itself will improve at least?

thank fucking god, this will probably fix the pacing issue with the boring ass recaps, flashbacks and cuts, not to mention cgi and sfx. There's no way one piece is going to stay this slow as a seasonal, they don't have the balls to release episodes like recent ones, if they do even one piece dickriders will chimp the fuck out

This is a great move tbh. I really think they should've done this a long time ago. With lots of important revelations in final saga, it's definitely hard to make a filler arc without creating plot holes. It's getting harder or close to impossible to drag or stretch an episode to keep the anime from catching up to manga either, chapters are shorter compare to when manga first started and 1 chapter might not be enough to cover 1 episode. I really do wish they give previous stretched arcs the treatment Fishman Island Arc get.

So the real question is will mal list the seasonal one piece as its own seasons now?
It's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
