@sleepless_bitch The animation or lack of it for the hair is the main thing that really hurt this episode, there was obviously other animation issues but the hair is one of the iconic moments of the manga. Having it look so bad, the girls walking around with it just standing still is not what i pictured, reading the manga i imagined it always in motion. Guess that was just too difficult, but… damn that needed to be better. |

@Clockosphere oh yea, just looked at the credits… seems it was mostly all outsourced to Chinese animators, and the director is someone who has only been an episode director never having helmed their own series. Hiroshi Nagahama wasnt in the credits, not even assisting or storyboard… Well that explains A LOT. Shame when it is only four episodes, lets hope the next two both are helmed by Nagahama.. |

First of all, the production stopped for an entire year during covid. https://www.vulture.com/article/uzumaki-anime-release-date-trailer.html?utm_source=tw&utm_medium=s1&utm_campaign=vulture Usually when something takes so long it's because the whole thing is a mess behind the scenes which was a case here. When the show was announced, studio Drive was listed for animation production, meanwhile they're not even credited in the actual thing, meaning they're probably left at some point. Fugaku is credited as the animation for ep 1 and Akatsuki for ep 2. Also, it seems that the director, Hiroshi Nagahama, was semi-fired during the production and wasn't allowed to attend the production meetings, hence he's not even credited as the series director on ep 2. Also, ep 2 episode director (Taiki Nishimura) is a guy who's pretty much banned in the industry for his incompetence. The whole thing's just a big, big mess. https://x.com/sarca_sc/status/1842325100059836431 https://x.com/pizza_rigatoni/status/1842467995886506073 https://x.com/sarca_sc/status/1842472951888982205 |

@Runasius Nah Pluto was fucked over really bad in the art direction/comp department, shit was an eyesore already but they made it look even worse by replacing work done by legendary animators such as Shinya Ohira with awful cheap green screen effects. It is by no means a polished anime that took many years to make cause the management has been extremely sloppy throughout and even the simplest of mistakes somehow went unchecked, in fact a lot of time was wasted. |

@dragoncapsule505 Remember that Production I.G is also funding the project and knowing how production committees work, they probably set 50% of the budget so that Adult Swim couldn't do much regarding that, it's literally a mafia thing going down in Japan. |

@Joche1 I recommend you to watch this video, but summing it up: the biggest investor sets up the budget for a show, so if let's say Production I.G invested 40 or even 50% of the budget, Adult Swim couldn't even try to bargain and just accept their share left for the project. They got lucky IMO, because usually a company sets 40-50% of the budget while another 5-10 come in with the rest, getting 5-10% of the share, usually. So unless you own 100% of the rights for an IP, as CD Projekt Red does for Cyberpunk 2077 (they are the sole investor for Cyberpunk Edgerunners), a gaijin company could never compete with the local Japanese investors, because they want no competition, they want the whole market for themselves, so they decide who can invest, at a set (and usually low) percentage of the project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iExwO1v_V-s&t=0s |

@KatoWorks I completely agree with you ! The show was so bad looking I dropped it at ep 2. The colors were horrible and too saturated (Gesicht orange suit urg), the garden of North 2's ep was the same flower copy pasted and inverted with some colors changes. The war flashback and the dust made by North 2 takeoff to fight Pluto were some horrible after effects shit. Brau voice is so stupid, why an old man it's a damn robot it makes no sense ? The suspense of the realisation that Gesicht was a robot at ep 1 was nonexistent since they showed us his hand transforming into a gun immediately, and didn't hide it untill the reveal when he arrests the criminal like in the manga. I only saw people disliking the anime for it's story and not as an adaptation so I'm glad to see people on the same page as me and my friends :). |

It's WORSE than Junji Ito Collection, honestly......some eps of Ito Collection anime is at Least Watchable...... WORST ADAPTATION by far(along with GYO by Ufotable),,, not just the animation but Cramming too much into a single eps,,...... it's like they're forced to do it, rather than passion. Ep 1 was not good either, just decent. But I Hated ep 2. 6/10 for now, let's see what's more in it to torture us. |

@Runasius Toonami isn't even the biggest investor in this show, if anything, we should blame Production I.G. The studio and director change in episode 2 should be proof enough that this anime was utter chaos in its production cycle and let's remember that covid got in the way as well. |

@Anayan_Kashyap No, it's not. Episode 1 had way above the average animation and direction. Studio Deen couldn't do it even in their prime back in the 80s and 90s. "t's like they're forced to do it, rather than passion" Dude, they're professionals in an industry, of course, it's not passion, they need to be paid and a project with this art style is very demanding, especially with rotoscoping techniques and doing all the lines. The director and studio change is clearly stating that, at some point, either I.G and/or A.S decided they wanted to speed up the process by hiring a lame ass director who wouldn't be as careful as Hiroshi was. So let's wait for eps 3 and 4 to see if he's returning or not. |

@S5_0014_81 The biggest reason why the production crashed was because he got essentially fired, and the first episode was great because of his input. And you're forgetting the fact that he also made, you know... Mushishi? Nagahama is not a bad director at all. This is a major executive fumble, not any fault of his. |

@Oongbuh Thank you for stating this fact! People here are judging easily based on personal taste rather than facts. He's more than capable of directing this kind of project, but he didn't do much in the 2nd episode and pray tell he comes back for episodes 3 and 4. |

@Oongbuh >and the first episode was great Meh, I never jumped on that statement in the first episode either, the pacing was terrible and the rotoscope animation is just horrible to look at most of the time. If theyre not doing 2D I much prefer a full 3D animation. Obviously it was miles ahead of whatever this crap was, it was so bad that it was even difficult to recognize their faces, damn. |

Episode 2 went to a small outsourcing studio who outsourced it even more to like 8 studios and directors were changed to hentai animators.
As to why the main director was kicked off the project? We don’t know but we can theorise as to why. Everything in episode 1 was mocapped, completely redone in 3D and completely redrawn in 2D. The producers could’ve have seen this as so unbelievably demanding to do for the entire show that they kicked him off, and since they had spent so many resources in episode 1 they went to someone who’s really shit at the job just so they can get it done.
So all those 5 years then went into this anime? Most of that time wasn’t even being worked on to begin with probably.
@HoesEatinDogFood Just curious, what exactly was it that make Nishimura so blacklisted in the industry? was it just because of utter dogshit quality or something more heinous? |

@LoliSatan He’s so incompetent that he can’t do basic sheet work despite being in the industry for 28 years so he only works at small outsourcing studios and hentai. |

@S5_0014_81 @HoesEatinDogFood Not that I agree with the general point that you two are making, but I do find it hilarious considering how the episode director of episode 2, has literally been a hentai director at some point : https://myanimelist.net/people/76892/Taiki_Nishimura |
