Manga. I didn't like the art style in the manga but it worked. It also helped that I finished volumes and arcs in like 30 minutes LMAO. The anime is too slow-paced for me. Ironic tho because I feel like, towards the end of part 1, the manga was too fast-paced, which I didn't like.

Manga over all cause the latter content is just better. But for what the anime covered it was better than in the manga imo.

The manga is easily better.

Although I enjoyed the first season of the anime a lot, I honestly feel like Chainsaw Man is a story that works better as a manga than it does as an anime.

I enjoyed the manga a lot more. I think the anime was really well done, and the animation and voice acting were incredible (I watched sub, so I can’t attest to the dub). However, I do feel as if the aspects I found to be slightly more “problematic” about the manga stood out 10 times more to me in the anime. It’s probably just a me thing tbh, but it made me not enjoy the anime nearly as much as I thought I would. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy both a lot but at least so far, the manga takes all the cake for me. Id recommend anyone who watched the anime to start the manga from the beginning, it’s a completely different experience than watching the anime imo
edit: also the fact that the first season was only 12 episodes was pretty stupid, it should have definitely been more as the anime is so action packed that the first season could have easily been 24 episodes

The manga definitely, the way Fujimoto uses panels and his art is just too good and can't be translated to anime.
The anime is also very slow imo, I know you can't 1:1 adapt the pacing from the manga but it just feels slow even disregarding the mangas pacing.

To me anyways, they made csm feel more like Fujimotos other works than treating csm like its own thing which feels different from his other works if you read them. Kinda wished they treated csm like csm and not view his other work and change the tone of csm to match them.

anybody who says anime is di*kriding...first season of manga chainsaw man was okay and anime was not better than manga...and you all hyped it up so much that the disappointment was great. anime had many flaws...but mappa did good with cinematography...but manga is 100 times better than anime...and that's truth

They are different experiences, both are worth and I don't always say this. I feel like reading the manga beforehand made me enjoy the anime adaptation even more, so I'd vote for the anime (of course I'm not taking into account the parts of the manga that have yet to be adapted).

Both are good in their own ways. Manga was a little too fast paced tho so I barely remembered most things in the anime that happened. Also the anime added new scenes throughout which was really good.

Csm anime was truly amazing and it became one of my favorites, but I'll say Manga. Firstly because I could read it in 3 days without waiting and also because it didn't even felt like reading, it seemed more like a movie on paper. I found csm manga pacing fantastic, especially for a not-hardcore reader like me. Drawing style was very cool too.

The anime is better, I find the manga art ugly, it's the reason why I couldn't get past the first chapter.

The anime, at least on this first part of the story. I've found the tone in the manga takes some chapters to settle (and why I'd guess some small parts were changed in the anime) while the anime seems more consistent. It will be hard to keep up with the manga on the best parts later on the story, but for now I'd say it's a good adaptation.

Manga mainly because of pacing and how much story there was. Only counting what was adapted I'd say I liked the anime more.

They really did need a longer first season. Sure, the animation was great and the whole thing had a vibe and style, but there was absolutely zero character development. It just jumped from action scene to action scene with some slice-of-life in between, but pretty much every character is exactly the same as they were when we were first introduced to them. And the fact that the character deaths weren't very impactful proves that. The one thing they did manage to spoil is the identity of the Gun Devil. If you can't figure that out by half way through this season, you might want to check your head for rocks instead of brain matter. From there, it's a very easy guess to how the series eventually ends. (For reference, I only started and finished reading the manga after I was certain where the anime was ultimately going).

They needed to get to the point where there was more character development (or add a bit more in early instead of just making characters punchlines to jokes) and the anime felt less like an ad for the manga and something worth continuing on its own. As it is, it came across as all style and no substance for me if I am just looking at these 12 episodes as one whole. People will complain and say that's because it isn't a full adaptation, but if an adaptation can't stand on its own and be good separate from the source material even when incomplete so long as it is presented as a compete season, then I just can't say it's any good on its own. And with MAPPA, a second season is anyone's guess, and when they do happen, it's generally a few years out. I don't think the first season hype will be enough to carry it for 2 - 3 years and still have people care by the time it could be released.

Manga. I think I would've enjoyed the anime more if it was like FLCL. CSM is chaotic in the best way. If the anime has had an adaptation like FLCL it would've been amazing.

This pacing at the beginning might not be ideal. This pacing applied towards the end of Part 1 tho? That would be amazing and fix that issue from the manga.

Not a big fan of CSM in general, but I definitely prefer manga in this case. Pacing was just on another level. I actually loved fast pacing these first few volumes had, it kept me reading and wondering what happens next. Anime was not bad but I did’t have this feeling at all. At times it was even boring which kinda let me down, expectations were high for this one.

Manga way more. The anime is boring at times and CGI makes it worse than even some sol that came out this year like Akebi’s Sailor Uniform.
