I just recently picked up disgaea and chrono trigger and was wondering which I should play through first? Like what are some key differences and how do they play and length time?

CT with uts 16 endings is the better game btu on that note this is very much apples and oranges abd SRPG will kick your ass is you dont paly right while odler standed RPGS will not thay why there is some insenase Hadicap based Clanagnes on Tradioanl RPG that would could nevr have in SRPG

Disgaea is a tile-based JRPG (like Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre), except it's set in a Demon/Anime setting. It progresses in a pretty standard cutscene > go to stage and battle pattern. All Disgaea games are very similar, but it's a unique experience if you haven't played any.

Chrono Trigger is a classic turn-based JRPG (with a few unique elements such as the lack of random battles, enemy movement in battle, and duo/trio combination moves) with incredible music and an epic story that spans different time periods and worlds. It's a game that shouldn't be missed if you plan on playing any JRPGs.

According to howlongtobeat.com, Chrono Trigger will take 23 hours and Disgaea will take 45 hours, although I remember Chrono Trigger taking much longer than that for me.

I can't say which to play first. If you're in the mood for something lightweight, play Disgaea. If you're in the mood for something with more depth, play Chrono Trigger.

Chrono Trigger if you want a fulfilling experience from beginning to end. Disgaea if you want a srpg grindfest.

+1, the Disgaea series and related games (ZHP, Phantom Brave, etc.) require you to grind over and over again in order to get everything in them. That doesn't mean they aren't good, but you'll spend most of your playtime grinding than doing anything else.

only really disgaea 1 was grindy, Disgaea 2 and up you could go through the whole game from new mission to new mission, that said the first game is super grindy but very satisfying when beating levels

Chrono trigger is a pretty fantastic game and is much more of a traditional rpg while disgaea 1 is a parody of traditional rpgs with only scattered serious bits surrounded by absurdity and purposely cheesy dialogue(disgaea 2 and 4 are way more toned down in the parody aspect)

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

I never beat Disgae, I liked the humour though, and I love strategy RPGs. I loved La Pucelle Tactics (pretty similar to Disgaea)...but I've played Chrono Trigger a ton. Chrono Trigger + Chrono Cross is the best. People have arguments all the time about which Chrono is better, but they should see that its the whole package, Cross revolves around Trigger MUCH more than many people seem to understand, and its in really creative ways.

So maybe Disgaea, then do a Chrono Trigger + Cross marathon ;)

Me, I'm about to go buy a PS3 again just so I can buy FFX HD :D

Chrono Trigger easily. Disgaea as mentioned is quite grindy, so unless you are into that sort of repetitive gameplay, Chrono Trigger will be a more meaningful, exciting experience overall.

Disgaea 1 story ain't too bad. I mean it is mostly comedy, but it does deal with themes such as redemption, suicide and forgiviness and also has a lot of different endings to go for (some for comedy, others not).

Can't really compare the two. Chrono Trigger is by far the superior title and considered by many to be one of the best RPGs and even one of the best games ever made. Disgaea on the other hand is quite a niche title in the SRPG genre and even then there are many titles people would consider superior.

Everyone here nailed it, I think.

Chrono Trigger is art. Disgaea, just a game.

Wow.

Okay, what is true is that Disgaea is grindy and repetitive. But it is very humorous and barring its setting, feels more real, with the real word in mind when it was designed.

Chrono Trigger is a classic, and for a good reason. It has a serious plot, and takes you on a grand adventure.

The probability is that you will enjoy Chrono Trigger more, but I don't feel like Disgaea should be discounted like that.
