It may not be unknown or underrated, but I believe that Baccano! deserves more attention. In my opinion, out of what I've seen so far, there is no better anime.
Yeah, more people should watch it. Still, it seems to have a reputation among more experienced anime fans so I don't mind.

I'll go with Michiko to Hatchin. It's by the director of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo and it's pretty good. Not up there with the other two, but still deserves way more attention than it's getting.

Probably Monster, I cannot recommend this anime enough. The character development is like no other, it's just amazing, and has a pretty darn good story too.

I'm gonna go with Black Lagoon. I never see anyone talking about it and its my favorite anime of all time. It disappoints me.

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!

The greatest slice-of-life moe anime ever and so few "fans" of the niche have ever seen this, and most that have still think K-ON! is better. PLEBIANS, THE LOT OF YOU!!!
My first novel, Kardia has been published! Click here to read!

Tonagura, Kamisama Kazoku, and for that matter, Kyouran Kazoku Nikki. All of them are around 600th in popularity, could use a bit more.

And just for good measure, Star Ocean Ex could use a little bit more lovin than it has (not that its really THAT good... but its still decent enough to watch)

Detective Conan.

It may be wicked popular in Japan and all, but here in the USA, only the first 50 episodes were broadcasted over and over, and we have about 100 episodes licensed and 6 movies licensed, but that's pretty much it. And it's such a wonderful series too, it's just hard to fit in a demographic because it's too gory for children apparently, and it's too childish for adults because it's a cartoon. And if it's kept up this long (ten years!!), there's obviously something to it. Hell, I wasn't really one for mystery shows until Conan came along. And whatever ones I did have a slight interest in grew because of it.

Sure, it's a long series, but it's fun. And sure, it has its fans already, but I think more people need to know how awesome this show is, or at least give it a chance. Here in the USA, anyway.

Let's see..I recently finished Kekkaishi and I think that it is one of the best shounen animes I've ever seen. It has good bgm, nice animation, especially the fight scenes, good voice actos, and a simple plot. The character designs are okay, not that 'pretty' but still...it's good. But seriously, for people who loves shounen types anime, they should watch this. I guarantee they'll like it.

I'd go with Haibane Renmei. It's my favourite series of all time, anime or not. Some people don't like it because of it slow pace in the first half and lack of action but its qualities lay in its characters and the atmosphere throughout the series. Something completely different...

One Piece, if you never watched or drop for some reason then you are missing one of the greatest shounen series.

Gunbuster... great show, and yet not a huge fanbase :| Then again, I haven't watched too many shows that aren't mainstream.

I can think of several, but I will say Dennou Coil. For such a good and recent series the fact that it's only #329 in popularity baffles me.
