Time to run torrent at Baka to Test... The less I care about Vampire Bund, since it was horrible anyway. Bad choice of Funi to choose it between, why not Bakemonogatari as it is much more popular? I do understand the theme "vampire", but if the story is bad, animation is bad and etc... I don't think it wise to license it. And I'm sure Durarara will be license once the anime ended airing which I totally don't mind as I will buy the DVD as a big fan of the series anyway x3 (I even subscrib to Crunchyroll just for it damn xD) |

sigh... that's great that they're looking into newer shows... but purchasing rights to a show that isn't even finished will screw over the fans who don't want to be forced to pay for the last few episodes... I've been watching BT and Bund since ep 1 and I don't want C&Ds going left and right before they even finish airing. |

Eitherway, there's only 4 more episodes to go through, someone's going to end up finishing the Japanese air regardless. Wait wait wait wait wait. Have you seen the first two episodes of Bund? Raypture said: PenguinChika said: Vampire Bund? Funi acquires fail again, I see. I agree, they keep licensing shit shows, or ones that have no chance at all in the states and wonder why the sales are so low, if they keep this up they'll be bankrupt, not that I wound't want to see that. Le Sigh. Ok, let me make this very simple for you. 1. Funimation licenses these shows and goes into talks with the producers MONTHS before it's actually aired. They don't know exactly what they're getting, and thus are going solely on the description of the anime, how anime with similar themes have done, and the manga if it's available. This explains Blacksmith, as well as not getting Durararara! and the other good shows that CR got. And not licensing Kimi ni Todoke, cos the process takes months. 2. The manga for Bund is actually ok. It's certainly not great, but it is ok. Funimation probably had the right idea in principle. Then those first two episodes aired. They've got no chance whatsoever of releasing this in the states without getting the whole religious-satanic-anime-is-evil-and-pornography furor going again. Seriously, they should just have this licensed cos it's to late now and just let it expire. Cos if they release this, anime is going to be the target of those 'family first think of the children' groups (a.k.a. Religious movements in disguise) for ages. |

These are the same people who think or that Disney's Dinosaur is unfairly advocating Darwinism, or that Lion King is teaching children about shamanism and SEX in the clouds. They will always complain even if at least semi-intelligent people can tell it's bullshit. There's surely more sexually-charged programs on television that they should be aiming for, but I agree that it makes a good target for morality idiots. |

nah.. again.. If they want to license something.. at least produce and sell it to the whole world...not just in certain countries only Yeah.. some ppl may love this news.. but bunch of ppl are actually hates that.. who doesn't want the legal DVDs for series? But, how about ppl outside the range of this company? It doesn't fair right? Go fansubber go!! Talk about monopolization. ^THIS Huh.. just license everything and make half of anime fans gone.. good work |

BakaTest is apparently a name Funi likes to keep as well, given that they made a mess out of the title (what the heck is wrong with "Idiots, Tests and Summoned Creatures/Beasts" anyway?) And for those interested: Vampire Bund came with BakaTest (or the other way around, whichever works): Sam: Here’s a tidbit for you: Baka to Test wasn’t simuled because of Vampire Bund. Jaka: How come? Sam: Someone expressed interest in the vampire show (shocking! I know) and MediaFactory thinks it could force them to bundle Baka with it so they don’t want to give it up to CR for cheap. http://www.ggkthx.org/2010/01/10/jaka-bugs-sam-for-2hrs-and-i-paste-the-chatlog/ So even if FUNi wanted Bakemonogatari, they had no choice but to take both BakaTest and Vampire Bund, not one or the other. |

At least a little bit isn't nothing. and Import? aren't there any stores that have the english dvds there? we have those in My Country but they're really expensive. and I do agree that a little is better than none, all the non japanese anime fans can't expect the japanese fans to keep the companies afloat. so those who have money and can afford, import etc. should show some support. |

I think they're still advertising it on the web as BakaTest. I'm not 100% sure Darkening said: What's with funi and grabbing the rights to everything? How many shows does it have to butcher before it feels its at the top? First of all, I'm pretty sure it's already at the top. Second, FUNi? Butchering? FUNi is probably the only company next to Bandai that hasn't butchered a single anime Dragon Ball excluded And about how FUNi translates their subs too literally, are you saying they'd do a worse job than gg subs and their rewritten dialogue, awkward translations and that they don't leave in honorifics (Remember how apparently "onee-sama"="mistress"?) |

Why do most people hate Funimation? is it because they keep things uncut? give English anime fans legal copies? merchandise? good dubs? and for any dub haters they would call it just under 'its okay' dub, nearly most of these voice actors have master degrees in acting. The only anime they got at first which wasn't uncut are Dragonball and Shin-chan. but as for Dragonball they are doing it uncut from now on |

Alright first off, those who are bad mouthing the funimation dubs without good reason please shut the hell up. I got sick of that crap back in my youtube anime uploading days. Besides it's all been said before. And Funimation usually does quite good dubs. As for Butchering BakaTest I really don't think that would be the case. I find that comedy animes work better dubbed as hearing the jokes is usually much funnier than reading them from the bottom of the screen. The main problem in BakaTest is translating the Japanese humor over to English. By the way what could you call Bakatest if you were selling it? Seriously I can't think up a good name.... Now don't get me wrong however. I don't approve of funimations seriously long release times, stopping fansubbers, licensing shit shows and ignoring the goldmines, and not licensing second seasons to tons of great shows. (When they cry, shana, familiar of zero, etc) |

The edits are somewhat understandable for Bund probably because of the recent Chris Handley lolicon court case. However The non edits for Strike Witches, and why they didn't just stick a mature rating on Bund like they did with Mnemosyne leaves me disgusted even more at Funi |

The title translation, I dont have a problem with. But the censoring of Dance of the Vampire Bund is unacceptable. I like to buy anime Dvd's, And I also like to watch anime in its original form. So all I can do is hope that when I decide to watch Dance of the Vampire bund, is that I hate it, So I dont have to worry about purchasing it. head-go-boom said: *eye twitches* And yet they don't pick up something like Durarara!!, or Kimi ni Todoke, or even Bakemonogatari. Since Crunchyroll has Durarara!! it's unlikely they'll license it anytime soon. Even Crunchyroll was surprised that they were willing to get Bund despite it being a package deal. While on the other hand I think Funi is doing the same thing like their doing with Darker than Black 2, and waiting until the OVA's are finished to get the whole series of Bakemonogatari. I've heard distinct rumors of Viz, getting Kimi no Todoke for some time now. |

My guess: they think that this show has the potential to go mainstream. Vampires are "in" right now after all. They, probably rightly, think that the lolicon aspect will weaken that mainstream potential, so they're downplaying it by editing. Strike Witches, on the other hand, is never going to have any mainstream appeal in the US so there's no point editing it. Don't get me wrong, I don't like censorship and I hope they reconsider, but I can see why they'd do it. I won't be buying it, but then I probably wouldn't have done so anyway as the series doesn't really interest me. |
