@LSSJ_Chloe yeah except thats literally false. Every single Crunchyroll show with the new shitty subs has the old normal subs on both Torrents and Pirate sites.
@billybub

"The old normal subs" don't exist for currently airing shows apparently. They completely switched to this new style without the onscreen translations for text elements being easily readable

@LSSJ_Chloe iy takes all of 2 seconds to prove this is wrong. Go to any of the "unofficial" sites and they will have the old style subs for currently airing shows.

I literally had Chitose kun wa Ramune bin playing with the newbsubs on the Crunchyroll app on mt tv and with the old style subs on my pc using one of the more popular sites. Stop making shit up

Are you genuienly being hostile because you think I'm making shit up? I already know you fucking hate me but it seems you aren't paying attention to the ON SCREEN TEXT TRANSLATION FORMATTING part. Most rippers literally will not go through the effort to reformat that because it takes so much fucking work.

Tell us the group name (e.g. Subsplease, Erai-raws, Judas, Commie, etc) or else I say you're lying through your teeth.

@LSSJ_Chloe what does the on screen text have to do with your patently false statement that most pirate sites just rip Crunchyroll's subs? You're just changing the subject

Lol just noticed you're shilling for that idiot Thew. His entire video is just him regurgitating what everyone on r/anime, r/Crunchyroll and r/animep***** have been saying for the past week

Well I never liked does muppets anyway I mean they manage to make the worst anime in human history that I ever seen and I seen allot of trash. So seeing they throw money at shit, im not surprised on what ever they do but honestly I don´t care Crunchy can go join Nintendo, EA, and Ubisoft on companies that needs to go under for all I care.

@Shinji-Spark

I mean you should care even if you pirate since most pirated subs are just ripped from official channels, so any issues with the typesetting are going to be present in rips as well unless the ripper goes throguh the manual work to restyle all the subs, which with on screen text elements would be a lot of effort most rippers wouldn't give enough of a shit about to do. Everyone will suffer from this not just paid subscribers
@LSSJ_Chloe I buy physical media and avoid anything crunchyroll as much as possible. The few titles I do have is such a minuscule part of my collection that it isn’t a huge deal. So I’m still not caring because I predominantly purchase discotek, media ocd, gkids and viz titles. If I can’t buy another title for the rest of my life then CR will still be roughly .001% of my collection.

There's nothing "patently false" about that. Ripping groups (whose files all pirate sites use, since they're the first translated version available) rip videos from CR and other legal sites, and don't do anything other than changing the font styles via automated processes. They don't add positioning or styling for onscreen text. Here's a couple examples from Erai-Raws' CR-rip of Fall 2025's My Friend's Little Sister Has it In For Me ep 01:

While Erai did change the font from Arial (or whatever) to Trebuchet MS (which CR used to use themselves), you can see that the sign translations are still jumbled in with the dialogue at the top or bottom of the screen. For contrast, here's a couple of images from SubsPlease's CR-rip of Rent-A-Girlfriend S3 ep 05 from Summer 2023, to show how CR used to handle onscreen text:

I'm not posting any of this to defend CR's shift in practices here -- I'm doing it to point out that those who pirate contemporary anime do not live in some kind of magical bubble removed from the legitimate industry. If CR or other legal sites make changes, like simplifying their typesetting or using MTL/AI subs, those changes will show up in the piracy scene as well.

They don't give back to the Japanese companies after the initial payments anyway, nor do they care about their customers.
Doesn't Crunchyroll literally produce anime tho?

This affects pirate sites too.

Are you genuinely this dense or this is all an elaborate play?
>crunchyroll offers sub par service
>people leave crunchyroll for other alternatives
>no major alternative so pirated sites
And here comes YOU with the "this affects pirated sites" bs

At the very least you can get better subs from OpenAI. At the very least you aren't paying more and more money to a company that produces subpar products.
If you are getting the short end of the stick then you aren't supposed to keep on giving your money.

Most subtitles on pirate sites these days are literally just rips from official sources, so if the official source is of shit quality, the pirated version is going to reflect that as well. We aren't in the era of fansubs anymore where there are countless groups making different subtitle tracks for shows. People want instant gratification these days and to keep up with their shows immediately after they come out, so it is quicker and takes way less effort for pirated releases to just rip the official subtitle track as is and maybe change the font rather than create, proofread, and typeset their own subtitles.

AI-Translation is genuinely dogshit and not up to professional standards. Ablaze Manga's localization of Centaurs is a great example of this as they used Deep-L to translate the manga instead of hiring actual translators and it led to so many issues such as incorrect terminology being used, character names being butchered due to AI not being able to differentiate Kun'yomi and On'yomi, and grammar errors that were not present in the original Japanese text. AI-glazers in general are genuinely some of the stupidest people on the internet, but it's especially egregious in matters of translation as most of yall don't fucking understand a word of Japanese in the first place so you wouldn't know the nuances of the language that make translation so tricky.

If you are getting the short end of the stick then you aren't supposed to keep on giving your money.

I do agree we SHOULDN'T be giving Crunchyroll our money due to so many reasons, but we shouldn't pretend like they don't have influence over the entire industry. You can't really avoid their touch even if you pirate these days if you watch any of the shows that Crunchyroll has the official license to.
