When I'm just going to work I carry a pretty simplified wallet without much in it, but when I'm going to fares and festivals where I expect not every stall to accept card it's a good idea to bring some cash on me.

In terms of coins, I heard one proposal to ditch not only the penny, but the nickel and quarter too, and reintroducing the half dollar, which sounds like a good system. Pennies and nickels are too small to be useful, but ditching the nickel makes the existence of the quarter annoying because dimes don't fit into it evenly.

@traed this is basically what I said in my previous response. I see no point in taking loans for payments when I have enough money in the bank and I don't really like the system of borrowing money on a moral level

Just because the government is borrowing money doesn't mean I have to do the same thing when I don't want to and don't need to - yet. And it hopefully will stay that way

I carry a small amount of cash with me but most of the time it ends up going into some donation bucket when I see it. I don't usually buy things in cash.

I usually carry a little cash on me, but very rarely use it. I put everything on the credit card and pay it off in full at the end of the month, improves credit that way and no interest too.

You're still carrying wallets? Forget cash, I don't even carry anything besides my phone and keys anymore. Age of mobile payment has come boomers. And if my phone dies I'll die with it.

Not only am I still carrying cash with me, sometimes I have to do it, for example my hair dresser only accepts cash. Usually, I'm only using my card for bigger purchases.

I do in small amounts as some fast food places and restaurants only take cash.
Also if I visit model engineering societies too, although more of these are adopting card machines.

I almost never use cash. The only time I have some is when I take out the bottle return money and don't use it to pay groceries.

Paper money has it's uses but in everyday life it's pretty impractical for me as an adult

Japan has a lot of options for cashless now... but some places still only accept cash. A lot of places, actually.

So I still tend to carry cash, though I pay mostly by card.

i am in russia and you know enocomy is doing great society si doing great everything is greater than great as they say on tv.
when i buy anything with cash they give me 10 ruble currency and a punch of pennies
i ha ve so many pennies it makes me sick
and 10 rubble paper is like...
its almost a cent at that point.

however most people indeed practically use only credit cards and pay electronically.
i think you should be cautious and keep real cash but not be insane like the idiots who buy gold...

Holding cash money makes me feel very powerful, but I don't really keep it on me all the time. I'm more anxious of being robbed than having an applicable use for the paper dollar. That being said, it really is just satisfying to amass physical wealth.

I mainly use my card, but I do carry some cash on me. It's nice for when places will charge extra if you're using a card.
I'm either crashing out or fujoing out.

Yes, because it also contains my identity card, my driving permit, my health insurance card and my blood donation card amongst other things that could be useful and/or required

Yeah last time I went to my hair dresser, there was a sign up that the card reader was broken, so it's perfectly alright for me as I always have enough money in my purse. Pretty much the same here, I also pretty much only use my card for bigger or for online purchases, though there are a few parking automats that only accept cards

I always carry cash, and I only pay in cash if im buying something in person.

But I never carry more than 40 dollars on my wallet, unless im buying something that costs more than 40 dollars that same day

My biggest fear is that if I want to buy something, and then for some reason my cards/app gets rejected, I would feel so embarrassed.

So cash all the way.

Now, if I want to buy something in person thats more than 400 dollars, ill just give them a bank check or ask if they have Zelle/cashapp.

Last month a girl was selling cookies. Girl scout cookies I think. I don't know.

I didn't have any cash on me.

About 5 years ago two kids were selling some useful arts and crafts which they'd made. I didn't have any loose change.

At many stations the toilets require you to pay to enter. And you need to have the right coin for the machine.

I carry coins and bank notes every time now when I go out.

And the single biggest reason why I do this (now) and will keep doing it is because I remember when I too was a kid and I was selling some lottery tickets for my school's fundraiser and I remember when I was a kid and we were selling fruit we'd picked (we were all kids) for our own pocket money. And the local shopkeeper would let us keep our stock in his shop (we'd spend all the money we made in his store afterwards, ha ha).

One time there were two people, a brother and sister who were lost (5 years ago) It was geting dark and they were so far away from where they needed to be. They'd thought they could walk it, but it's easy to get lost in this area (I used to get lost myself).

Luckily I just happened to have two bank notes in my pocket and I explained to them. Oh no guys, you need to go all the way back into town and then get the bus from the main bus station. Here you go. Get the day bus pass and get a bus back into town. It will take you to the main bus station where you'll get a bus which goes to the other side of the forest.

I want to be some one who can help people when they need it. And for that reason. I carry cash.

Paying with cash is better. There is no reason for my bank to know where I spend my money and when.

What do you think are the most important things in life? Money, dreams, sympathy towards others...

Yes, they're all important things as well... But the most important thing is responsibility for your own actions.

Respect if you can just live on 40 Dollars in this day and age, but what if you have miscalculated and need more money quickly?

Why not just use your bank/debit card for those higher-priced spendings?

That's quite admirable, also great story ^^
Though it doesn't have to be something that noble. It wouldn't come off as any good for example as a guy to not have enough hard cash to being able to cover your and your party's expenses in a restaurant in the case of the absence of any other options, plus it has far more style to pay in cash than paying with a card

Me too. Another good example includes coin-operated lockers so as much as it would be more convenient to just have bills at most, it's far more useful to have coins as well

Preach it, brother. Not only your bank, but also the government and any other entities. Only exceptions I'm making though like Ricchan__ above is when it comes to higher-priced items for safety and security reasons and to have an additional proof of purchase

Not really no I always use contactless which is good but I often don't think about the impact it has on my habbits. Like I feel more accepting to making big purchases where if I had physical cash I would think more about how I spend my money.

I feel like theres still a decent amount of places in the US that still are cash only so I make sure to carry some but not too much. Usually I just spend it on small purchases.
