LET'S BE HONEST GUYS, just once please

i knew that the animation was not amazing ,but even if it too soon to drop it, it was boring for me...

i hope that it will be more interesting on the next ep...

E1 (6/10)
@otakuweek I disagree. The animation was amazing and it definitely wasn't boring.

I'd rate it at least an 8/10.

@KingBaller06 good that you like his design man. Just not used to it rn, y'know? I'm the kind of person that adapts quite well to artstyle changes though... so I'm sure it'll grow on me in time.
@TheNoo You know I can respect that. Humans generally don't like things that are different, so it takes time for us to adapt to things.

Very cool!! Love this show in this artstyle I think it looks gorgeous and I'm so excited to get into the hijinks that these three eventually get into!!!

If I had to predict how long this first season will go, in 13 episodes, it might end at the Vs. Queen Bee Arc, or the end of Volume 5.

@chrisbolts He slides faster than a bike, which is why he was passing them in his intro.
@KingBaller06 In the anime itself, the narrator says his slide ability let's move "as fast as a slow bike." That's why I repeated it in my write-up.

@AddaeAkono Pop Step has a leaping quirk, hence why Koichi talks about how he envies that he doesn't have such an ability. Also for Koichi's quirk to be able to activate, he needs at least THREE points of contact. His feet are two, meaning he needs at least one more beyond that, hence why he tends to go on all fours.
@KingBaller06 Oh, I see now. I simply misread how Koichi's quirk works.

The MC origin is quite similiar to Deku, and the other 2 leads are not bad. I will give it a few episodes, though I tbink the premise is short lived. BNHA has proven me wrong before, I hope that this iteration proves to be good too.

I’ve known about this spin-off/prequel series for a long time, but didn’t know anything about it besides the concept, but damn this was really good! Bones Film made this look arguably better than the main series thanks to the style, it’s very pretty, feels like a fresh coat of paint, and the art and animation in general seems really good so far as well, I’m glad they’re taking care of this one as if it were the main series. OP and ED were also bangers, loved them both in music and visuals, only thing is both artists sounded familiar but neither are ones I’ve heard before, I guess that happens sometimes lol.

And regarding the episode itself, very fun start, we already got the main trio and they’re an odd bunch, but I can tell they’re gonna be very entertaining to watch, I don’t think I’m alone in loving Pop Step already lol, some very tasteful angles during her performance, it hurt to watch her get assaulted but I knew she’d get saved by Knuckleduster. And Knuckleduster is an amusing fella, big and burly but is doing some noble work, only his methods are questionable lol, I like him. And our main “Nice Guy” Kouichi is pretty likable already, I kinda wish he had a different costume design because Midoriya already had an All Might themed costume but I can look past that, I also like that he’s a college student and working adult as opposed to the usual high school student, his ability to basically become a hoverboard is pretty cool too.

And of course this is gonna have some characters from the main series, and I do love to see that, the appearances of All Might and Aizawa in this episode were nostalgic, even if main anime isn’t over yet lol, and I especially liked the cameo of Inko Midoriya, felt like a little Easter Egg with it being in such a short scene, I missed her youthful self before she shrank lol. I’m definitely excited for the rest of this, I think it’ll be great as its own thing along with it being something to hype us up for the main anime’s finale.

I’m more Surprised about who’s Singing the OP, literally jumped back into my seat when I heard the singer…

Search up Hai Yorokonde when you get the chance, Quite the bop. P.s that person who sang that sung the OP.

Not to mention Ikumi Hasegawa surprised me a Popstep. I literally imagined Arc if she was a pop star cuz you do know she’s the Recent Arcueid in the type moon franchise.

And am I the only one that found Koichi’s Quirk dumb at first but later on in the episode I was like “I guess it works”.

Promising start to the anime so far for me ngl.

Deku's mom spotted during the sequence with Kouichi helping citizens. That was nice.

But man, Knuckleduster bro is gonna carry this show so hard lol. Not that I have anything against Kouichi and Pop☆Step (yet) but one already proved to be more cowardly than MHA S1 Ep.1 Deku and the other managed to receive the "damsel in distress" label in record time. So yeah, let's hope they become more useful in following episodes.

4/5 start.

I'm wondering if the pop step dance was just as much a reference to the animation in Hai Yorokonde

I've kind of been looking forward to this one. Getting to see another side of the MHA world, with a darker, grittier tone. The most impressive aspect was the visuals, really great line works with the thick lines. They really wanted to get a manga/comic book feel, along with the effect words popping up now and again. With the cameo of Deku's mom being thin, I assume this is around 10 years before the beginning of MHA.

As for the characters, not really clicking with them yet. At least Kouichi did something heoric, I honestly thought he was going to be a coward the entire time. It kind of surprised me he was like that, just judging from the covers of the manga that I've seen, I always thought he'd be a scrappy fighter, not a coward. Makes him feel like a cheap copy of Deku, but without the intelligence. At least Pop Step is super cute.

Also loved the opening, really captured that street/city vibe really well, considering this is all about street-level heroism. I've always loved urban settings, so that definitely appeals to me.

Overall, a decent first episode.

I have a question: Can I watch this without watching Boku no Hero?
@Misiwasy Some plot elements (such as the drug "Trigger", and the backstory of some characters) were first introduced in "Vigilantes" and then carried over into the original manga, while other things (characters, mainly) come from the main manga.

Technically, it wouldn't be a problem to watch this spin-off without having seen the main series, but I highly recommend watching up to the second season of My Hero Academia to start watching Vigilantes (for plot reasons). Either way, it's not really mandatory.

I haven't read the Vigilantes manga and i only watched the first session of MHA when I was like 12.
For a first episode, it was great; it was entertaining and made a good first impression on me.
My only complaint is that the pacing was a bit fast for my taste.

I need to finish final season...but I welcome mroe MHA content. I also got an OVA to watch. I have been hearing the hype from the manga readers regarding this one. I know it isn't that long but I love when series do prequels. It really allows you to fill in the holes. I really enjoy the different artstyle and like how the outlines pop. I don't know if this will be better than the main series but it is off to a good start.

The main character is older, which is always a plus in the book. His-costars in Pop Step and Knuckle duster are fun. It's also really nice to see a lot of the VAs from the main series in the English voice other characters in this game. It's funny hearing Bakugo's VA as the psiek guy for example. I also think that is Shiggy's VA playing the dealer. This is going to be so funny to hear Vas I have come to love playing different characters. The English voice acting was pretty good it is nice to see newer and lesser known VAs to have main roles.

The story and premise so far is solid. It's setting to really nice to fill in the gaps of the early days and show us some fan favorites who aren't injured to death or dead. I can't wait for more.
I got a Masters degree. I don't have to worry bout school anymore.

I love this show so much I need to watch more because it feels like a darker version of the original show and it just feels a little more mature and I love it!! I read the first 2 arcs and I’m reading the Queen Bee arc and I thought the manga is not the best, but the anime is just so much better and I also like how they put the onomatopoeias in it like the manga and that probably makes this a bit better than the original show plus it makes it more like a comic book!!

OMG IS THAT MAMA MIDORIYA!? (Midoriya Izuku's Mother), so that means Izuku was around 5 years old.

anyways, the first episode doesnt really have a good start to me, I expected like a climax or something that puts something interesting in the first episode to show the plot of the story but oh well, looks like theres a long way to go for our protagonist here Koichi, and also I like the girl

It wasn't bad but it didn't live up to the hype (too soon to judge though, only the first episode yet). The best moment for me was seeing Eraserhead.
I do appreciate the more grounded, mature theme here as compared to MHA, but PopStep's outfit/design is pissing me off.
Like...she is one of the main cast, and presumably she's going to be a Vigilante too, why must she be so unnecessarily sexualised??
This is an issue I have with MHA too, with the designs of Midnight and Yayurouzu's hero costume and such.
PopStep's costume makes no sense plot-wise. It's just fanservice and I am sick of female characters being butchered for the sake of fanservice.

So they're adapting this spin-off before making the final season. Not a bad idea. This is something that more series should do while people wait for new seasons of the main series. But for whatever reason, this isn't more common. I heard good things about Vigilante. I think they probably should've animated this much sooner when MHA was still very popular.

Dang, I really liked the first episode. Way more than I thought I would. Am I misremembering, or is the animation better than the main series? This could just be the case of the first episode having the largest budget to hook more viewers. Either way, I love how refreshing yet familiar this anime looks. The OP and ED were also great. Especially the OP. It was very cool and stylish.

The anime itself just feels very refreshing. It just shows how the world and the concept of MHA are still very good. It's just that the main story became very tiring to go through. I don't understand why the concept of vigilantes wasn't explored that much in the main series. Anyway, I think I'll keep watching this.

Pretty nice introduction to the world. Kouichi's life as a regular university student by day and nice hero by night gets upended by a rough crowd of delinquents. Knuckleduster is a lot of fun to watch. Has the brooding attitude of Batman and pretty unpredictable behavior.

@Mari_Marx Deku spent 10 months doing All Might's training, not a full year.

Two, I was also wondering if that was Inko Midoriya. It could be someone that looks extremely similar though.

Three, what evidence do you have to suggest this series takes place 5 years before Season 1?
@KingBaller06

1. About Deku’s training time:
You’re right — technically, Deku trained with All Might for 10 months, as shown early in the series. I just rounded it up to a year, but yes, it was 10 months before he entered U.A.

2. About Inko (Deku’s mom):
That was just a personal guess — I wasn’t totally sure either. I also wondered if it was her or just someone who looks really similar, since the art style can be a bit tricky sometimes. But I get your point.

3. About Vigilantes’ timeline:
The My Hero Academia: Vigilantes story gives pretty clear hints that it takes place around 5 years before the main My Hero Academia story. For example:

Aizawa (Eraserhead) and Hizashi (Present Mic) are portrayed as younger and still dealing with events like Shirakumo’s past.

All Might is still working publicly at full strength, without the severe limitations he shows later.

The drug Trigger, which becomes important in the Shie Hassaikai arc, is still new and experimental during Vigilantes.

And the author has mentioned in interviews that Vigilantes is set “a few years before” the main series. Based on events and character development, you can estimate it to be around 4 to 6 years earlier.

Of course, there’s no exact date stated outright, but the setting and character progression make that pretty clear.

The Vigilantes is here and I'm ready for some classic hero story and journey goodness.

Pop Step is going to be the talk of town, figuratively and literally.
@Mainnus What do you mean by that? I really can't stand you simps. She literally did the least and she's the one you're focusing on? Get help.

It got me irrationally mad how the animators kept showing her ass like she has any. What was she shaking? Her imagination?
Don't get me wrong, the point I'm trying to make is I'm not mad they didn't make her dummy thick, I'm mad they keep zooming in on there like there's anything to see. Who animated this? Who is this anatomical abnormality non-existent ass for?

What is this outfit? What is this anatomy? I know the Japanese are sick in the head but have they ever though of, I don't know, not sexualizing young girls?

They better not show this dumb shit every few seconds for the rest of the anime

It was ok, but I expected something a bit different. MC is a second Deku for now, a typical rehash of saving someone from weak exaggerated villains etc. We'll see how it develops.
Will it be explained why Mc doesn't want to become an official hero? I mean, it's probably too late for him, but he sounded like he's never tried. He claims that his quirk is too weak etc. but in fact in the main series a lot of students or superheroes had worse/more useless powers and somehow they managed to get through school, pass exams and become heroes.

@Gekko_ua He's 19, Deku started the series as 15, so he should be more emotionally mature.

If you're saying that you prefer older characters, I get that. If you're trying to fault Izuku for having less emotional maturity, that's not logical.

I would say that Deku is a better example of a true hero in comparison to Koichi though, which is why I prefer him.

@Mari_Marx

So I went back to Episode 2 of MHA and you're right, All Might got the injury 5 years before the original series. This episode doesn't prove that All Might doesn't have those limitations, because before giving OFA to Izuku, he was doing hero work for 3 hours a day. While he's out in public there's no reason he would show any signs of said injury since he's the Symbol of Peace.
