What an amazing last episode honestly, This entire season had me really hooked and was an extreme step up from the previous season, the whole investigation and it turned out to be the nurse that was the person that run me over and just so many aspects of this episode I was just extremely hooked the whole time. What an amazing season and I hope and pray that there is a season 3.

@renzospark I'm pretty sure she's referring to the previous conversation they had after the last arc, where Osanai says she will likely in the future find someone better than Kobato, but until then he is her "next best option". It seems to become something of a term of endearment for her in this episode as opposed to the cynical "realist" look at the future for her, as she is clearly moved by Kobato again this episode you can see her tearing up a bit while Kobato is coming to resolution with Hisaka Shoutarou. She also wants him to go to college in Kyoto where she is going to be applying and will be setting up a "maze" for him to get through since he's going to be delayed with his entrance to college due to the injury and hospitalization.

Really enjoyed this season of Shoushimin. It was the series I enjoyed the most this season and had me rewatching episodes just to understand what was going on. I get this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the development of Osanai was really enjoyable to watch. 9/10.
@mostholy2 Hey, sorry for the late response. But thank you so much for answering my question. I do missed things like that sometimes.

That was a fantastic arc. Great reveals the last two episodes. This season was a step up from the first so it's a real damn shame we'll probably never get a season 3 given this authors track record. I guess you can at least say the story and characters are mostly all resolved, so it's just be more mystery shenanigans in followup books.

In terms of mystery, I'm not sure which season was the best, but overall I think the first one was better because it didn’t have any bad characters like this season did. seriously, there were two: that useless Urino and Kobato’s trashy girlfriend lol. They added nothing to the season and it made no sense to put those two losers on the cover.

Anyway, the arson case was just okay and way too predictable by the halfway point it wasn't obvious Osanai was the culprit. Now the last case? That one was exceptional, mixing past and present with interesting dialogue and riddles. Great ending, and Osanai already threw another mystery at Kobato lol. That girl is insane. This one definitely deserves a season 3. Solid 8/10.
@Mari_Max I think arson case was more onto how these sociopaths interact without each other and other so called "shoushimin" people. Like how Osanai and Kobato used the normal people to hide and be "just another guy". And in the end of that arc, we got to know that it was nearly impossible. That's why that arc felt less like a mystery, and more like indepth on the personalities of our MC and FMC. And the later arc worked on improving that, but did it exceptionally well with amazing mystery tying past and present and amazing dialogues.

personally I enjoyed the first season more, it had more mysteries even though they were mundane and lighthearted, but the mysteries being that way was actually what drew me into the series!

the two cases in this season were a roundabout way of showing Kobato and Osanai's relationship incompatibility with ordinary people and also the inverse.

sidenote: I'm very tempted to use the cellphone ringtone as my own as I find it would be quite amusing.

It hurts me that I've finished this anime already. That its over already. But I'm glad I watched this. Shoushimin filled that Hyouka-shaped hole in my heart. The hole left after I've finished my favorite anime of all time. I absolutely love this second season. It is such a great elevation from the first season. If the first season was great, this season is spectacular.

I love how Kobato and Osanai act towards each other. It's like a friendly game of cat and mouse. They mesh so well, and I love Osanai's impact on Kobato and how now he's enjoying sweets when before he was sort of indifferent.

Farewell, Shoushimin!

Genuinely good detective series like this don't come often enough. I really don't remember when I last enjoyed an anime with 20 mins of talking this much, and never felt I needed to skip forward even one second. It's magical to me, how well-versed the writer is at writing and setting up mysteries. I also did miss the more mundane mysteries of S1 where the beginning was very disjointed, but I'm not disappointed with S2 really picked up, and I can agree it was much better than S1 overall in terms of character and plot development. I think the side characters like Urino and Nakamura were handled really well, in showing how sociopathic and well-matched for each other Kobato and Osanai are even with their differences. Before Season 2, I truly felt Kobato was the sanest one, but seeing his true self come out the moment he separated from Osanai was terrifying. It put a whole new definition on how beneficial their relationship is for the both of them.

Hoping for a Season 3, but in the meantime, I'm off to the novels!

I think "my next best option" is almost on the same level as a proposal. "I want to be with you forever."

Osanai said in episode 7 that Kobato is the best option at the present time and she want to spend time with him again.

So, "my next best option" means that Osanai wants to be with Kobato in the future too (university or maybe forever).

This anime was kinda eh overall honestly like it had its moments but most of the time i am just watching in 2x speed because it just didnt feel too worthy of my time i was continueing watching this to watch the next anime.

Also weird ass relationship i dont know what to make of it. The arcs kinda felt like it was overstaying its welcome in the beginning of the driven over arc i did not care about the middle school shit even if it became relevant later on. The arson arc definitly overstayed for way too long also the diffrent relationships just felt completely unnecessary and didn't bring anything of value in the series.

Im personally not too sure why people applaud this as much as they do.
