The story's still got potential, and the idea of a king reincarnating and living life differently is interesting, but the execution's kinda shaky. Some of the animation looked rough — especially that flying scene, lol — and a few folks mentioned the studio switch from the PV to the actual show felt like a downgrade. That said, the characters are starting to grow on people, and there's curiosity about where the plot’s headed.

Basically, it’s not terrible, but it’s not great either.

At first I thought the animation was just mid. Not good but not bad either. Then the fight scenes happened and I actually could not believe my eyes. How they butcher such a beloved story like this? The whole show is an action fantasy! What will they do for more important fight scenes??? I could barely understand what was happening because it's just still images that they moved from left to right to create sense of speed. In the big old age of 2025? Insane.

People are using Rudeus as a reason to not watch Mushoku Tensei (rightfully so, since he is pretty abhorrent), however the portrayal of Arthur's past (Grey) isn't much better.

In the first episode: indiscriminate slaughter of civilians or military by bombing buildings.
In the second episode: execution of a mother and child due to the father attempting to harm him and the people calling it "mercy" for the mother and child. This implies three things:

He's a bad individual and other wants him dead.
He has murdered a lot of other individuals in cold blood, innocent or not.
These twisted ideologies is normalized in his world due to the reverence of "strength".

The anime's portrayal of Arthur's past, and about how he was should've been a later clause, not this early by making Grey look like an irredeemable bastard that just kills any chance of mine connecting with Arthur (anime Arthur). They should’ve saved that reveal until later.

And god damn it, switch Arthur's inner voice, really awkward to hear a 30+ year old man's dark voice coming from a kid.

@Wrathberry84 The problem is not the art style. Yea there are worse drawn mid tier slop every season. But the actual animation is awful because it's nearly nonexistent. Any action scene of any kind is literally just a still image being panned. Like the falling scene that lasts a minute (absurd) is basically a 2d gacha game sprite the entire time with the same level of "animation".

I don't care if it's not Solo Leveling fight scenes but like, at least pretend you're trying to do an animation and not a slide show.

Like the people A-Cat is outsourcing to can't make more than one thing actually move in any scene. If they have to animate someone's mouth moving to talk, literally everything else is a still image.

This just feels like typical copy-paste isekai that I'm going to forget a few minutes after posting this. I don't understand why there was such high expectations for this one.

There's just nothing here that's worth sitting through the middling-to-poor visuals. Maybe the story goes somewhere later, but after 2 episodes it failed to make me care enough to find out.

so I was right about the likely reason ep1 had little animation being because of him being an infant. There's just nothing exciting you can do with a baby animation wise. The cliff ending was kinda stupid too, I mean he flew/floated like it was nothing as an infant, there's 0 reasons he wouldn't be able to now. Just artificial suspense to make the situation seem more tense and apparently force him to meet some dark knight or monster 🤷 honestly not the most exciting story, so far it's very generic. Oh well at least there was actual animation and not just collection of stills or low frame "movements". Story wise it's off to a very unoriginal start, but I guess it could be more enjoyable if you haven't seen too many generic isekai series'.

I've followed the webtoon since around the end of season 1, I've been a big fan then read to the novel's last chapter (around 300 at the time), and to see the anime like this, man...

Great ep. Been years since i read the comic. Totally forgot where this was going until the bandit attack.

And, the anime looks good. You people should get off the Internet for a while and relax. The web is blowing this way out of proportion.
Reminds me of gamers that want more fps everywhere, yet don't even notice unstable frame rates.

Real trash animation is shit like the last Rettousei season, Mao same Retry 2nd season, Failure Frame, last episodes of Psii chan.
If this is cutting corners to save money, good. Better than actually bad animation or CG crap.

Also, the opening is amazing. Reminds me a bit of Hollywood Undead. Not that you complainers know jack about good music.

I'm loving this series.

RIP, MC's former life. He was actually a puppet king at that rate. He can't even make decisions on his own. It's a tragic life.

This new life of his portrays how he could've done other things instead of killing nonsensically, which is a wonderful thing.

P.S. The animation is kinda on the budget side, so I guess that's one of my main complaints, but the mysterious vibe it gives rocks!

P.S. #2 I kinda want Jasmine to be the heroine.

and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,

I just have one thing to say and that is it was a mistake for tbate to be animated by A-CAT and those other series they made had good animation icl but they weren’t the only one animating it they had other anime studios helping them so don’t say that studio A-CAT had potential in those previous anime’s. Who knows what if they weren’t doing the fight scenes what if they were just doing the background of those scenes. The anime they have produced with not js them but with other studios.

Surprisingly a good episode? The animation is pure dog shit, as always. I don't expect the series to have good animation at any point, but the story telling especially the OST was done super well.

What also surprised me was that there was more animation in the slice of life moments than action, the action moments were pure still frames. But every conversational / slice of life part of the episode, actually had animation in it. The CGI little Dinosaur Raptor looking things looked cool as well, the ost was amazing this episode too. Especially in that last quarter of the episode, good cliffhanger, it went by super quick. Honestly felt immersive, as long as the OST and story telling stay this way. I'm fine with the animation being sacrificed cause this was really enjoyable for me

@hypexleaks Bro the only reason the story telling is interesting is because they took it from the manhwa, I rarely say this but watching this anime is actually doing you a disservice, go read the manhwa, it's a thousand times better

this is bad there are still many images that are shifted and a few seconds of the fight should at least look like animation (not necessarily fancy anime). the fight that is seen briefly uses CG on several characters, even the characters that are still still look CG.

Episode 2 is a complete disaster. The fight against the bandits—one of the most important early moments in Arthur’s development—is butchered beyond recognition. Not a single strike is actually animated. It’s just still frames with blood splashes and speed lines slapped on top, like they’re trying to gaslight us into thinking something is happening. This isn’t an adaptation, it’s a slideshow. The pacing is rushed, the animation is nonexistent, and the fact that they only had five key animators explains everything. It’s visually and emotionally dead. The manhwa delivered this scene with weight, tension, and raw power. The anime gives us discount stock assets wobbling on screen. For them to treat such a good story with this level of disrespect is unforgivable. Even if it’s not technically a 1/10 in quality, it deserves that score for the sheer disrespect alone. I beg studio A-CAT to never animate again, or, at the very least, to not animate pre established stories so as not to butcher another one again. I am genuinely begging them to not animate again, please

@hypexleaks I agree, the storytelling and the music are great, they have a good director and music composer, the art style is also quite impressive, i'm really speechless about the animation, the difference in quality with other aspects is very diabolical

@seweholmes just read the Webtoon, you don't need to read the novel. You'll get a Gist of the story. And saying "Arthur is a boy without charm (like Rudeus)" will kinda disappoint you.
Cuz, he has charm, in fact he uses it in certain situations, unlike Rudy. He has mkre advantage of that.
Just read it, and you'll feel even more pity about the show, especially how they portrayed Arthur.

I've always enjoyed the story and how things goes so its fine for the anime... thats until you get into an action scene and all they did was adding some effects to the screen and drag the characters like its some png.like they didnt even bother animating the arrow arthur shot, instead they cut right into a scene where it had struck into the tree. I'm still going to watch it but it deserves a better animation, not A-Cat.
