Light Yagami death was fair, he used to have the most dangerous weapon in the world human, the Death Note, bringed by a Shinigami, a God of death, he played his own game and killed people like his own Father (not directly but he caused it) even though, he killed bad people like criminals and he reduced in a 70% the crime around the world. But in the other part, morally that was innaceptable, he murdered people and turned him in what he said to fight, so its understandble that he didnt win in the final.

That was... a heartbreaking finale...
The bad guy is dead, the good guys won... and you feel empty after watching it.
That was a strange final strategy to beat Kira but there was no escape anymore...
And this serie is over...

lesson we learnt is that one should never become evil. having godly power is just a curse.
His Death was written all along in his fate.
i feel sad for Misa Misa , his mother & for his sister sayu yagami.
Misa she committed suicide??!!! L we got to see his soul.
Ryuk was all along enjoying it.
Score 9/10 by me at MAL.

This story was a masterpiece. I didn't expect the ending at all, and it was still sad despite knowing Light was bound to die anyways.

One of the greatest anime of all time. Like damn I was spoiled about Death Note but damn they still had me second guessing if Light would still win (was rooting for him btw). And that slow death scene of Light looking at the sky than L like damn and how he was crossing his high school self shit almost got me to cry. Matsuda grew some fucking balls shooting Light like that. Didn't really care about Near and who ever the other guy was. Aizawa was lowkey getting annoying as a Kira stan. And can we get some information about Lights family like damn they've been left out for so damn long.
Edit: Don't know why it took me this long to finish this anime 💀💀💀

What is this forum discussion? Did you all seriously thought Light was going to win? You all really think everyone who has written someone's name on the note deserved to live? This was quite possibly the best it could've ended, Light's arrogance brings him his downfall, but it was not at the cost of his intelligence, it only happened because his Mikami was being a dumbass. The only possible ending for a villain with god complex is to defeat his main rival and then die due to his own arrogance. I understand that you might be able to sympathize with Light's ideal, but to this extent is just ridiculously dumb and borderline illiteracy.

Do i like the way Near came up to make light lose? No, it requires a high suspension of disbelief even in a supernatural series, but it was still good and still is since i watched it back in the early 2010s

So I just finished watching Death Note for the 3rd time(or the 4th I'm not 100% sure) and I have some thoughts about the series as a whole but I'll start with this last episode.

Now of course I as many other of my fellow anime fans here didn't like or agree with the end of this amazing piece of fiction: even though from a neutral standpoint you could argue that Near's victory is a legitimate ending plot wise, but the way it was executed was extremely flawed. Near as a character is unpleasant, boring and a spit in the face for being given the title of L's succesor(I mean for crying out loud he's still a brat who's playing with toys and managed to do what L himself couldn't?). Of course if L didn't figure out the things that Near later on finds out, he wouldn't have been able to reach that result. But there's something here which I don't understand: how did Near find out L died? Is it mentioned in the manga? If not is it possible that when Watari was dying and pressed that button besides it seemingly erasing all data, was also meant to be pressed by either him or L if there was a chance they would both die and thus send all necessary info to the orphanage where L grew up so they can select the successor?

Now given that the outcome of Near's victory was decided you couldn't think that for example Light could've let's say turn his back on everyone quietly deceiving them that he surrendered and then write everyone's name( I personally don't agree with Near's triumph but alas) unlike how he acted irrationally and hysterical. Another major plot hole was regarding Light telling Mikami to act as if he had the Note while Misa wrote the names in the real one: if Light wanted Mikami to fake using the Note doesn't it stand to reason that whoever may follow him might find the real deal and steal it? And like others here who mentioned that Light could've instructed Mikami to keep some spare papers just in case( I may be wrong here since I think I remember Light passing on through Takeda that Mikami should take 5 pages from the real Note and keep them but then why was Misa writing the names- this might be a mistake steming from the manga author or the team in charge of the anime). Also Light announcing his victory before he saw them all die was another mistake considering how calculated he usually is.

The other thing with this last episode is regarding Ryuk killing Light. He said that he wouldn't want to wait a long time while Light's in prison so that's why he wrote his name in the Death Note but since the most people in the world including governments were on Kira's side, how could they prosecute him? And Ryuk lied for Light in the past but not now when Near asked him if you could kill someone with the Note with just a scrap from it.

Another thing is related to Misa Amane. Since I didn't read the manga I don't know if she died by commiting suicide or what exactly happened to her.

Regarding my other thoughts for the anime as a whole: the first would be to my personal biggest critique to the series and that is how L managed to narrow it down to the possible suspects for Kira. The series premise of having a notebook that can kill someone while knowing their name and how they look is truly genius and could've made this series go over 100 percent easily but L managed to narrow it down too soon while not having, in my opinion, enough evidence. Sure you could say that since the first death occured in Japan that Kira was from there but what if he made it appear so? Or having info from the Japanese police while he could've just been a foreign hacker.

And my last major critique is, as I discussed previously, with Near and the fact that the series should've ended with L's death but after a much longer run and without this annoying white haired kid.

I don't know what to feel about the ending... I don't want Kira to win but I don't want Light to die either? Is this really the right judgment for all his sins...? I had hoped that he would receive judgment and punishment by the world, but instead he ended up dying because his name was written by Ryuk in his book.

When Light immediately panicked and suddenly laughed hysterically like a person who had lost his mind, I think it was because he realized that he was not as great as he thought, and for the first time in his life he felt defeat... both as Light and Kira. Never had he felt this hopeless until he was still trying to write Near's name using his blood.

On the other hand, for the first (and unfortunately last) time I'm proud of Matsuda. Thank you for taking Kira's case seriously.

I loved the moment when Light "saw" himself in the past as well as seeing L before he died. Maybe he's thinking about what he's been doing, maybe he's thinking his life would have been fine if he hadn't taken the Death Note, maybe he's thinking that had he done better Kira's identity wouldn't have been revealed, maybe he's thinking that his defeat was "expected" since the first time L showed up... or maybe he's just thinking everything he's done is a waste. Or nothing at all. Who knows?

If I'm not mistaken, Light's mother is still alive right? And Sayu, Light's sister is also alive but in a miserable mental state. If that's the case then I really feel sorry for Light's mother. After losing her husband, now losing one of her children. All because her son was obsessed with being God... and became a murderer instead....

Misa and Mikami committed suicide? Well, they were both obsessed with Kira, so it's no surprise. Misa felt she had no purpose in life anymore, while Mikami felt he was the one who caused his God to become like this.

Honestly the ending was like... cloudy... gloomy... full of despair.... but I felt a little dissatisfied...

Light losing it before dying made my day. Why the hell was he calling on Takada to save him when he was the one that brutally murdered her. I lost interest in this series after L died, the only thing that kept me going was the fact that I wanted to see Light lose miserably. AND HE DID!!!
Matsuda annoyed me for most of the last half of the series but I think he redeemed himself when he shot Light, Good job.

I checked out the manga version after I saw this episode. Light wasn't as whiny about dying in the anime, that's for sure.

Misa and Mikami committed suicide?

In the manga it appears that Misa joins some sort of Kira cult at the end so she probably didn't self-delete after all.

Hmm. I could never have envisioned such a pathetic ending for Light.
If anything the show shouldn't have gone further than episode 26, like a lot of comments are saying.
And besides, what happens to the notebook now? Who's to say it won't be leaked and a new Kira would rise up and then L's fourth generation would try to take him down.
This outcome could have been so much better, and how was it so easy for them to even find the real notebook?
Guess I'll be reading the manga after this to clear up any plot holes
