Animalia has a bit of an ego...not sure I like the character so far.

Glad to see Psyger-0 being open to conversation with Sunraku and not being awkward. The ending was hype. Sunraku still the main guy in all this drama.

Best episode of the whole series so far!!!
"Playing the game seriously... What's wrong with that? Everything is fun when you do it seriously."
"Why am I thinking like a coward? What the hell am I even playing this game for?!"
"If I'm having fun right now, who cares what comes next!"
"Wolf Schwarz will get intel on Lycagon? Who gives a damn about that!"
"It doesn't matter if we beat her right now!"
"Prepare yourself, Lycagon the Nightslayer!"

You’ll have to forgive me if I feel zero sympathy for SF-Zoo getting taken out. Maybe don’t summon a rare boss without consulting the dude who’s taken em on before lol.

Finally we get the backstory as to why Rei fell for Sunraku/Hizutome. It’s sweet that it was all over his smile and the joy he had when buying a game. Relevant to today’s fight because for once, it was Rei giving Sunraku the motivation and encouragement needed to restore that sort of joy and get back in the fight today.

Rei got her wish and is in the same party as Sunraku!!! I can’t wait to see them take on Lycagon as a team next week.

That's what SF-Zoo got for celebrating too early. I hope we will get a full fight of lycagon vs. sunraku, but with Psyger 0 this time. Sunraku, together with Psyger 0, might have a chance on this, considering how strong she is, but we'll see.

I really love how they portray the stakes in this game, how valuable informations about unique monsters really are and how competitive the clans are. But at the end of the day Sunraku does the real gamer move of just have fun in his own way by challenging Lycagon no matter what! Also we got to see more of Lycagon's moves and goddamn, SF Zoo got completely obliterated, can't wait to see what Sunraku and Rei will do against it next ep! πŸ˜†

Animalia's backtory is kinda sad when you think about it. She wanted to be close and interact with animals but couldn't IRL because of a medical condition, so she does that in a hyperrealistic VR game instead. Such little detail but it gives depth to her character and I really appreciate it. Also Rei's backstory of her first time encounter with Hizutome is just really cute man. πŸ₯Ή

@Angry_By_Default They knew around 90% of Wethermon mechanics, kit and special conditions. Vash gave them both the key info to survive the transition from phase 2 to 3 and the object required to trigger the final confrontation that lets you clear the fight.
From Lycagon they had unreliable info (Sunarku first encounter) and after that the only that exists is them now witnessing from afar how the boss works (I thought it was related to the moon, not the shadows).

But yeah, seems doable after what Sunraku did at the start.
Unless there's some strange phase with Lycagon, this bosses clearly are meant to be taken with a small party and not in big groups like a raid due to most mechanics and patterns being clearly designed to put a dent in cohesive but big formations instead of small specialiced players.

In fairness to Zoo, Animalia, and their end goal of having access to Rabituza, they did a good showing for it even if they eventually failed...but at least they tried.

I think this is one inherent cause of burn-outs of playing video games even if you're practically pro level as a gamer or perhaps in other areas of our lives as well like school, work, projects, hobbies, etc when you're not enjoying it anymore, it becomes a chore or a joyless task. Good for Sunraku to breakthrough his own dilemma with Rei's positive outlook of just enjoying the present to the fullest.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

@whereismyisekai He is the first one treating them like shit. Keeps info to himself, ghosts them when they are suppossedly working together, tries to one up them and get a "monopoly" on the inventoria items using his ever reliable privilege of having Rabutza basically playing the game for him.

They have good chemsitry so is sad the trio not being more in the spotlight together instead of Sunraku being a greedy asshole like he has acted since they defeated Wethermon..

Sunraku face to face with the monster that set him down this path all the way back. These zoo guild freaks have summoned lycagon, with a pretty good strategy to boot. Binding the big girl down so they could more easily land those critical hits they think are needed to unlock the unique rabbit kingdom scenario. Animalia wanting to pet lycagon was super weird but her backstory made sense for why she wanted that floof. However still not the right time and she paid the price. Getting chomped in half by a shadow clone is nasty. Lycagon would have some secret ability that made her so unique and powerful. That's some tough stuff to get around. Having the ability to make a clone that travels through the shadows is very hard to counter. The realization Sunraku had after seeing that since he was hit with a surprise attack from lycagon back then. A great episode with some sharp art and character designs. Everyone looked clean and smooth. Sunraku starting to hold himself back worrying about clan power dynamics but then Rei inspiring him was a great moment. I'm glad they're going to fight full force and try to beat this giant night wolf!

Seeing SF-Zoo being actually strong and able to trap Lycaon was surprising. Animalia was torn apart in a different way from Sunraku, this made me wonder if she also received Lycaon's curse after being eaten.
That ending with cliffhanger gave me goosebumps and Sunraku making the decision to follow his wills instead of caring about the chances of it going wrong was also good character development

Watching SF-Zoo fight Lycagon made me wonder how they planned to land 100 critical hits on her. Five tanks without weapons and ten debuffers with staves that probably can't even land a critical hit🀦‍♂️.

@joemaamah Fair point, but we're gonna get jutsu next week.
I like that we got the setup now and we'll get the fight later.

I thought it was time to leave or fight, not just "stand and watch" even though we're on the clock. Oh well... Now after watching them all get taken out, I guess we kind of "have to fight" though they could still just have walked away IMO. Cuz realistically it's too soon to beat him. So if they lose, they'll have to redo all the walking and will never get there in time.
Oh well another painful cliffhanger though.

Also damn some people in these comments kinda being silly, Obviously he's not gonna beat Lycagon right now and obviously Psyger-0 wouldn't spill all the secrets of rabbitzua even if she got the quest. Like you're not really getting the story or the characters if you think either of those things is gonna happen right now. SF Zoo for sure as hell isn't gonna be able to get there for now. The requirement certainly seems to be something along the line of "Be like sunraku, have a cool 1v1 with a unique monster, have a "vorpal soul" essentially just talking about his attitude/spirit. Now obviously I don't know what IS going to happen. But it is pretty easy to rule out things that ARENT going to happen. Yet some people struggle with that I guess. So next episode, they won't beat lycagon, and we won't suddenly have everyone else entering into the rabbit place. No neither of those things make any sense from a writing pov, and the writer is at least good enough to make sense for the most part.

(As for the lore I feel like it was kind of obvious already even before this episode but okay, yeah we got SF Zoo leader to confirm that "he's not a good boy" lmao. As in he's not even really much of an animal, but I mean again you can kind of tell that it's more just Darkness/Lightning, taking the shape of a wolf) As for the name translation I'm not sure, I understand the "double meaning" and misinterpretation by what they are saying in Japanese, but it doesn't make quite as much sense in English. Like maybe if you called him "The Night Killer/Murderer" instead and I get that Slayer is just a synonym for that, but when hearing "The Night Killer my brain does first go to "someone who kills the night or at night"
Whereas "Night Slayer" does kind of inherently feel a lot closer to an Adjective. Like "Night" is just the affinity. Maybe that's just me, but the "hidden meaning" felt less hidden in English.)

@Kocodrilo Yeah the curse marks are Unlikely for 2 reasons
1. Obviously from a writing perspective you'd want the mark to be unique to the MC.
2. It seemed more like a mark/curse of "acknowledgement" she did not corner it in some kind of epic "fair" 1v1 she kind of just used numbers and strategy to gang up on it. Which is still cool but not very "Vorpal Soul".

Even if Psyger-0 got the quest, there's no way she'd tell, HECK if you understand the charachter even a little bit Sunraku won't even have to ask or convince her, she'd keep it secret just for the sake of being the only one (well aside from the new character) who can go there and see Sunraku. She obviously wouldn't want a bunch of people to be there either.

As for you question "why the alliance" quite simply Realism, if the whole show was just the three of them it wouldn't be an online game with 2 million people. Obviously it can't represent that scale properly regardless, but it tries it's best. And part of that is that 3 people isn't nearly enough to "beat the game" you need the info and experience from other players. Even with Whethermon even though they "beat it" and got the credit, it's obviously kind of a team effort in the sense that all of it's patterns and story and lore info were provided by a ton of different players. Now sure the scale is still not accurate if anything there's way too little players, but for the sake of the story that'd be way too much. Even if you would suggest that 99.9% of players are very casual even then you're still dealing with like 2000 hardcore players which is way too many characters for a comprehensive story. So instead they tone it down and if we count all "important/part of a big clan" players that we've seen or have been suggested at existing, it's more like about 100.
But again obviously it's a story he can't even really account for the actions of a 100 players let alone that of 2 million or even just 2000. The kind of world building that would require would make One Piece blush.

So, this is definitely a major story point, if he beats Lycagon as I think he will. Lycagon was the first big-bad and has been his goal for the entirety of the show. This is definitely the end of an arc. The Tombguard was important, didn't really have the same value to Sunraku that Lycagon did, what with the curse and the quests. The Tombguard was really more Pencilgon's thing, in my opinion.

That said, I have serious doubts about whether Rei's playstyle will work well with Sunraku. The Attack Master is a heavy and fairly slow (she actually reacts quite quick, but everyone is slow compared to Sunraku) attacker that depends on some serious armor to tank hits, which doesn't really work against Lycagon without healers (as we just saw Lycagon toss the Zoo heavy tanks around like toys). Sunraku has been able to make it through encounters without healers due entirely to his ability to completely negate incoming damage by his crazy gamer reflexes and dodging almost everything.

It's a show, so I'm sure it will work out, but normally this combination would not work against bosses.

Despite the beating Lycagon gave SF Zoo, I can’t deny they initially had a solid strategy. However, they got overconfident, especially against a special monster. But honestly, who could have imagined Lycagon would have clones and the ability to teleport them through any source of darkness? It’s less like an animal and more like a spectral creature of the shadows.

That said, I couldn’t help but feel a little sad about Animalia’s brief backstory. Her obsession with the game’s animals stems from her real-life allergy to them, which prevents her from touching them. It reminded me of Ibelin in a way—fulfilling things in the virtual world that aren’t possible in real life.

I’m both desperate and excited for the next episode. Thanks to Rei, Sunraku has shaken off his doubts about facing Lycagon. At this point, it’s not about monopolizing information or even winning the fight. It’s all about having as much fun as possible in this encounter. I have no doubt the upcoming battle will be absolutely spectacular!

For me, this was one of the happiest moments of the episode

Rei-chan <3 I'm sure she felt the happiness of her life. Seeing all her efforts paying off, after working so hard to rise to his level, she was finally able to play alongside Sunraku and as a team!! <3 :') And being so considerate and observant, she even noticed the burdens Sunraku was carrying at that moment. Best of all, she knew exactly how to set him free <3

That says so much about her <3 She's amazing.

I love this series. Sunraku and Rei make such a great team <3 I want more episodes with them!!

@joemaamah Soliloquy is not uncommon in anime.
And in this case I think it fits, because Sunraku is in a pretty sticky situation.
Many times I have found myself unable to decide what to do so I just talk to myself:
I could do X. But if I do X then Y will happen. Do I want Y? Maybe it's better to do Z...
For me it didn't feel unnatural for Sunraku to be stalling.

I get that after this ending you really want to get right into the fight; I do too!
It's just a week's worth of wait though. We'll get through it...

(Fun fact: After I watched this episode I was thinking of reading the manga, so I didn't have to wait, but with how good the adaptation has been so far, I instantly regretted even thinking about it!)

It's nice to see Rei finally evolving a bit but everything else in this ep went wrong, rhythm was bad, sf zoo motivations and actions are just annoying, and everyone trying to keep everything secret start to be a bit over the top and not necessary. It takes over the dynamic of the story to keep the MC in front even tho he could still be relevant without all of his "lucky MC/the plot will give everything to you and only you" side (which makes him feel less powerful).

Next episodes will probably be better since this one's rhythm was probably used too get a good pace for the rest of the season. The cliffhanger from the last episode made me too thirsty.

@joemaamah No, the director did his best based on the story of Shangri La. This season's anime is much better than the rhythm of the first season and the manga, which is much, much slower. For example, this episode adapted 3 chapters from the manga.

@Marwanoob It's not a pacing problem since this season is having a faster pace by adapting 3 - 2 chapters per episode, the director is taking the best out of Shangri La's story, because the manga is very slow in comparison.

@gorkthe134th LOL soliloquy is waaaayyyyyy to common and has been for decades. It's usually the result of lazy writing.

I understand what you are saying about weighing choices. But that's kind of what's off about this one. It doesn't fit Sunrako's character to this point. He's always been kind of impulsive and intuitive. For me, it would have been much more natural for him to jump right in and start kickin' ass.

And I am glad you resisted the manga. You'd have driven yourself nuts comparing that to the adaptation, like so many others do. LOL

@joemaamah No, the director did his best based on the story of Shangri La. This season's anime is much better than the rhythm of the first season and the manga, which is much, much slower. For example, this episode adapted 3 chapters from the manga.
@teymarofc But are directors required to animate ever dot and tiddle from the manga? I know the manga readers go into complete meltdown if they don't. Frankly I don't see where this adds much to either the episode or the season. If they had left it out, it all would have came out in the wash once the fight started anyway.

@Marwanoob It's not a pacing problem since this season is having a faster pace by adapting 3 - 2 chapters per episode, the director is taking the best out of Shangri La's story, because the manga is very slow in comparison.
@teymarofc Yes you're right, I edited my post. I meant to talk about the rythm of the episode (lot of wait, talk/actions were inconsistent, etc.), which is probably used to keep a good pace along the season.
