Reply to Nette
Lol, I made something I actually don't hate. I can't believe my first piece of Hazbin Hotel fanart is VoxVal art but it works.
Yes shading this alone took 3 hours.

@Nette The dither shading looks well done. |

@Anjuro
(Oh dear, how is it that I always somehow end up accidentally clicking "reply"? It's okay. Sorry for the double notification (┬┬﹏┬┬) Back to message!)
Hi again~~ I'm sorry for my constant late replies. I tried replying quicker this time. Barely have energy to do anything lately.. TT don't feel like you have to reply super quickly either! I'm happy if we can just reply to eachother from time to time (if it made sense) (*^-^*)Don't worry, I don't forget such things!
Don't worry about a long message, I don't mind reading it. Actually, I really like reading your messages. I caught myself, as always, reading your message over and over again hahaha ꉂ (´∀`)ʱªʱªʱª
That's true, it's not a literal meaning of "angel". Also, yes, I think I'll do the metal/fur thing! I want to take inspirations of lots of VOCALOID, but I don't know how long it will take until AKIRA receives a new design. Probably a long time, knowing myself (´×ω×`) Oh yes, I loved dress-up games! I don't play it much anymore, but I used to play a game called "Love Nikki" almost everyday. Looking from the outside, it seems a bit strange, but I promise it's good.. Hahahaha. I quite liked it (I think ever since it came out, hahaha. I decided to try it from the ads during its launch, since it wouldn't seem to leave me alone otherwise and I thought "why not?". Start of a love). I saw they made a new game called.. let me see.. Infinity Nikki? It's 3D? Wow.. It's coming out around 2025, I think. Maybe I'll try it, but my heart definitely belongs to Love Nikki. ♡ (Sorry for the tangent. I suppose it proves your theory about girls liking dress-up hahaha.)
Thank you for the little praise, even though it's old. Maybe it has a specific name? Not that I know of, though, (´×ω×`) Look forward to more cat-ears soon! (Or other animal-ears..)
I think we have a different definition of "cute". ( ˶°ㅁ°) !! Hmm, well, the definition of cute can vary a lot for different people. Everyone has their own thing, I suppose! Though I still cannot understand it, that my friend (from Nara) had said a mascot of Nara, Sento-kun, is cute. I personally think he's quite horrifying. Shikamaro-kun is a much cuter mascot. I'll attach pictures of the two if you don't know them already;
Sento-kun is the first one. What do you think of him? Oh, I keep going on about other things somehow. Next point!
Oh, no training montage here, hahaha. I'm not sure what happened, but my improvement tends to come in breakthrough moments so the skill gap between drawings ends up becoming big a lot of time. But I am quite proud of that, really. I'm looking forward to drawing more things to show you! (But I'm still in a stump. . .) Oh, an official artwork? Isn't it strange you're the second person who compared it like that? Oh wow, I'm too flattered.. (┬┬﹏┬┬)
That's true! The version of the design I had used in the magazine-type illustration didn't include the blue flames, but I think in the future maybe I could incorporate blue into shadows and such.. Maybe the next time. Oh yes, he's my handsome one! (He, indeed. I have a weakness for a long-haired guy.) My work is sometimes clean and sometimes messy. You've only seen a few things from me, but don't worry, you'll soon learn about it all! ♡ Maybe it's a good opportunity to show some other things, while I'll show you the character's design. Let me know if you have any idea for some kind of addition or a new clothing? I'm not the best at designing men's clothing, but I try.
There's a lot of mistakes and parts that look off, but it's not really anything I spent a significant amount of time on. I just wanted to get my idea out on paper quickly. So that meant no sketch or guideline, either, which may explain strange things.. I ended up using it as a reference. I want to give him a more men's style clothing too, but I didn't know what..
Oh, let's continue. That's true that it's sloppy in a few areas. It's also true that the hands should have been more defined, and that the other drawing feels flat. I definitely think that I could have improved it more, with like you said, another pass, but.. I got lazy. That's it. (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄ I didn't quite think about the blue light reflecting back onto the character, though.. I also see what you meant with the lack of contrast! That's another thing I didn't realize. Once again, I'll be sure to attempt adding deeper shadows.. I also want to add bounce light, too. (Does bounce light count with the blue flames? Maybe. (❁˃́ᴗ˂̀) )
Yes, reds are indeed eyecatching. I usually use very soft colours, but I want to go more into these saturated style too. I will try to make my silhouette stronger in the next one, and adding rimlight.. Painting is fun, indeed. I would often make the lineart layer dissapear when doing lined drawings so that I could check if it still looked okay, hehe.
Maybe indeed, that's the problem! But I quite like it when I can see the individual strokes that went into creating something. From there came my habit of zooming in all the time.. So it's just a matter of personal taste for a part too, I think.
Hehe, 古宮半蔵 is the character's name. You read it Furumiya Hanzou, or in English, Hanzou Furumiya (because Furumiya is the family name.) I think it's great that you could decipher so much. (*^-^*)I was trying my best to make the text seem nicely written (?) so I'm glad you got that feeling. I hope you can understand what I mean. No, I didn't write all of it on my own.. unfortunately I'm not that high level in Japanese. I had help from friends, translators, dictionaries and such.
Oh, Ada's clothing is so nice! I also thank you for censoring.. ( 〃..) I love the combination of tight and then baggy clothes together, it makes it very interesting. I like the sleeve thing you have going on, showing the shoulders of course, and a rip to show off her legs too.. Haha, it's nice. The way you draw, especially the face, is very unique. Lots of sharp angles and shapes. It's nice!
The other drawings.. Very very nice! I like the hand posing you did on the before-last one and spiky hair is very charming and lovely.. The expression seems intense. Oh yay, a story! I don't know these characters, but the first page so far is great. Is that buildings I see? You did great with the perspective on that background panel (?) from a first glance, and I like that you didn't detail it a lot so the focus stayed on the character. The perspective on the character, too, is well-done I think. It's clear you have a lot of practical knowledge, I think I can learn a lot from you though we may be striving for different things hehe.
I'm glad we're friends now! Thank you lots! I hope you can excuse the late reply again. I don't think I will reply too quickly a lot of times, but I will try my best. ლ(╹◡╹ლ)

@mewmewforever Hahaha, I actually was online when that happened and I went to read your message but it was already deleted XD I was like Nooooo Mew-chan has robbed me XD But its alright, it came through in the end XD "I'm sorry for my constant late replies" Don't worry :) It's fine, now that I know the reply is coming even if you are a bit late the wait is easier :) I should also apologize for making you wait this time hahaha XD My policy is to reply as quickly as reasonably possible cause I feel like its probably more fun for you if you can get a reply quickly :) I actually did try to reply as quickly as I could but I severely overestimated my drawing speed and I didn't want to reply without having a drawing to go along with it :) You'll see :) "Barely have energy to do anything lately.." Oh I'm really sorry to hear that :( I hope this message at least gives you some energy :) I feel like the more energy a person like you has the better it is for everyone haha :) " I'm happy if we can just reply to eachother from time to time" Sure thing :) Whatever is best for you, but if you want to chat more that is also fine by me, send me a message any time :) (Also if I'm taking too long don't hesitate to ask for a progress report :)) "Don't worry about a long message, I don't mind reading it. Actually, I really like reading your messages. I caught myself, as always, reading your message over and over again" Uaaah >.< How can you say such cute things XD Ngl, reading that was a "kyun" moment for me haha XD I think you might be like the god of cuteness or something XD You know I actually also re-read messages that I liked XD I thought I might be the only one. In my case its part of my analytical personality, I just like to go over things again and again and really pour over everything haha XD Well, I think this is like one of the greenest flags in existence for me haha, I have a very high opinion of you now XD I think you are most likely an extremely good person that must be protecc'ed at all costs :) Now the pressure is on to write you a thoughtful long message you can enjoy haha XD Yes, I think Vocaloid is a very natural place to look for inspiration, or possibly some of the other popular female humanoid robots like Aigis (Persona 3) or 2B (Nier automata). Hahaha, well don't sweat the slowness so much, I find that things generally turn out better if you take it a bit slow. Your mind is always doing all sorts of calculations in the background and when you come back to it you will find that you have made more progress than you thought even though you didn't really actively do much :) Hahah, I had a feeling you had probably played some dress-up games XD Love nikki huh? Never heard of it, one description I read about it having RPG elements made me a bit curious but its probably not my type of game haha XD I mostly play strategy games :) I had a look at this infinity nikki as well (strangely, the protagonist is called Nikki XD I thought it meant Diary but I guess its a double meaning XD). Honestly the graphics look phenomenal ! The first game looked like a flash game and so I was really surprised to see what looks like a medium budget 3D game for the second one XD Lots and lots of dialogue in this one from what I saw, I presume it has some dating sim elements as well. I don't know if this can be called a dress up game anymore haha XD But yeah, I think you should try it, it looks like a good game, I hope you have some well deserved fun after all the business you are enduring right now :) (And yes, you have confirmed my theory :))))) "Look forward to more cat-ears soon! " Will do :) I actually have a few cat ears for you today as well :) "I think we have a different definition of "cute"" Hahaha, probably you are correct XD Like you said everyone is a bit different. For me I would say I don't find these super duper cuddly babyfied designs all that cute. I don't know what a good example would be, I guess maybe this will do I do find it somewhat cute still, but I think it would be cuter if it had like a runny nose or big eyebrows or something XD Basically for me I tend to find slightly goofy looking things cuter, or characters that are a bit feisty in a cute way, like My from Tanoshii muumin Ikka for example. Hahaha, I had a look at those mascots and I can't stop laughing XD I understand what you mean about not being able to understand it xD Shikamaro-kun is definitely a more conventionally cute design, I also think he is very cute. As for Sento-kun.... Hahaha, well I am a bit on the fence XD I do understand why you think he is horrifying, but I also think the horror is what makes him cute. Like you can just imagine him trying to be nice to you and you just go hide in a corner and then he becomes really depressed XD I guess ultimately he just looks like a big baby with antlers right? That's honestly not even that horrific when you get down to it. This is actually somewhat relevant to my drawing today because in that drawing I have a character who is very slightly "ugly" or "creepy" but in my opinion it just makes them cuter :) Let me know what you think about that when we get to it :) "my improvement tends to come in breakthrough moments so the skill gap between drawings ends up becoming big a lot of time" Hahahm well if you got your "power-up" for free that is even nicer to hear :) I mentioned this earlier as well but I have also observed that time away can often be just as if not more beneficial than time spent practicing. If you are anything like me (which I guess considering we share the going over stuff again and again habit I think we might have a few more things in common) it probably works this way for you as well. "I'm looking forward to drawing more things to show you!" I am also very interested to see what you make going forward :) "Oh, an official artwork?...I'm too flattered.." Hahah, but its absolutely true XD It looks so "designed", I don't really know what it is XD I hope I will be able to praise you even more next time :) Yes I think you should totally try adding blue to the shadows, this is actually a somewhat advanced art tip but I will tell it to you since its related. As you might already know, the different hues on the colourwheel have different inherent lightnesses. What I mean by that is that if you draw 2 swatches, one red, one blue, with the same lightness and saturation, if you turn the image to grayscale you will see that the blue is actually darker! You have to be aware of this sort of thing when painting, particularly if you use the colorization method of painting first in grayscale and only after adding the coour, because the contrast will change once you colorize the image. But yeah, with regards to blue, blue actually is the "darkest hue" out of every colour, so it is very suited to be used as a shadow colour. If you wanna draw like a really vibrant shadow, one trick you can do is to use a saturated blue instead of a desaturated gray, it will pop way more, try it out sometime :) Aaahm, he was a guy??? XD I guess I shouldn't be surprised given the name is Hanzou, but I totally thought he was a girl XDD Its sort of unclear but to my eye it looked like he had the slighest of boobs so I am very surprised XD (and the eyes, haircut, body also look feminine). "Extreme grandpa voice" Back in my day, when you looked like a girl, you were one! XD Well I guess he is a bishounen or something XD I know you girls love those :) Haha, yes I suppose I should not be making statements about your artstyle having only seen like 5ish drawings from you XD Its partly your fault for being so mysterious :) "Let me know if you have any idea for some kind of addition or a new clothing" Sure thing! You know, you said you weren't very good but this already does not look half bad! in the painting the outfit looked a bit plain but thats because the details were off screen it seems XD I love the little criss-crossing pattern on the sleeves, but I gotta say, I have never seen a man wear something like this haha XD Unless you intend for him to be a crossdresser I think the shirt needs a slight redesign XD (The low cut top also reads as female for me but I know in anime at least men do wear them sometimes). The cargo pants work at least! Simple but functional, and it creates a nice contrast with the tight top. As for suggestions, my first suggestion is simply to add a layer under the black shirt. You can keep the belly exposed but make it cover the shoulder/top chest area. That way the design looks overall more masculine and there is something interesting in the middle, to this end I would recommend an eye-catching colour for the underlayer, perhaps purple? I do also think either the shirt or the pants should have some asymetry to break up the design a little bit, perhaps one sleeve could be shorter for example? And as for the pants I have 2 suggestions. I feel like they are begging for an accessory for some kind, some point of interest. It could be like a chain attached to one of the pockets, maybe a "cat pin"?. And another thing I would suggest is adding some suspenders (I think thats what you call them? You know, those straps that are attached to the waist and go over your shoulders), however, since this is a cool character they should not wear them over the shoulder but instead let them hang , I think it looks cool :) "I just wanted to get my idea out on paper quickly" I totally get this, I am like this as well haha XD Even though I know that a finished painting can look amazing, I prefer a quicker sketch that gets the point across, I think its better for my development as well :) "So that meant no sketch or guideline" Eeeehm XD Ok I think that might be taking it a bit too far XD I think a rough 5 minute sketch at least to have at 5% opacity in the BG can really help. In my experience time spent on the construction is always time well spent. "I definitely think that I could have improved it more... but.. I got lazy" I know how it is XD Don't worry, as a fellow artist I can tell that you worked hard. That's the important thing, to convey your feelings. One thing I always say is, when you are more experienced, you will not get tired as quickly. Your pace will increase and you will get to a finished painting with less effort, so its not worth forcing yourself to spend hours and hours on a painting if you are already tired of it. The next painting will go by a bit faster and the result will be a bit better as well :) "Does bounce light count with the blue flames?" Ehm, well no, that is a direct light source XD bounce light would be like the blue flame light hitting the arm and then bouncing to hit the cap. Its generally a very subtle effect unless you are drawing caustics or the lightsource is very strong. But yeah, if you only improve the contrast in your next painting, I think that will already make a huge difference :) "I usually use very soft colours, but I want to go more into these saturated style too" I get that XD I also tend to shy away from the saturated colours, quite often I don't even use the right half of the saturation scale haha XD Low saturation colours are more "safe" and look more grounded, but high saturation colours are really eye-catching, and they are necesessary to create a painting that looks "more real than reality" , I'm not sure if you know what I mean haha but basically like a hyper expressive vibrant painting. I also want to make an effort to employ more saturated colours :) "I would often make the lineart layer dissapear when doing lined drawings so that I could check if it still looked okay" Hehe, it can be a good sanity test :) But an even better test is colouring the actual lineart to be roughly the same colour as the fill, so then the silhouette is not altered. You should colour the lineart anyway if you want a more vibrant end result :) "But I quite like it when I can see the individual strokes that went into creating something" Right! To be honest, I don't want to dissuade you too much, I was merely stating what is the "rule of thumb" so to speak. To look at it from another perspective, a style like impressionism for example is all about brush strokes that are fully visible in the end result. I guess as long as it looks good that is all that matters. I suppose a style that really does not try to hide the brush strokes is sort of like a type of stylization where the "resolution" of the shapes is limited, its definitely not inherently wrong :) Ah so it was a name XD Whenever I see 4 Kanji that I don't know its is usually a tell tell sign that its a name XD That is certainly a very cool name, Furumiya is an awesome surname (Old shrine), thought not as good as an S-tier surname like kageyama XD (Mountain shadow, or shadow Mountain?). "I think it's great that you could decipher so much." Hehe, well I do read Japanese LN's every now and then so honestly I am a bit embarrassed I couldnt read everything XD " I hope you can understand what I mean" I think I do. When I write something from my story I also try hard to put my feelings in the text. One way you can test it is by reading it yourself after some time and see if it makes you feel something. Of course you had only a few lines of text to play with but I think you succeeded in creating the feeling of "I want to read this work", which is exactly what the cover should accomplish :) "No, I didn't write all of it on my own.. unfortunately I'm not that high level in Japanese" Hahah, I would be extremely shocked if you were XD But I take it you still know a little :) Well either way, you did a really good job:) Hahah, thank you, her clothes are probably the most designed so far in my manga because she is the protagonist XD I'm glad you liked it, I always wonder whether its a bit too whacky XD And thank you for your compliments :) I supposes faces are like my specialty since I have the most experience drawing them XD It makes me very happy to hear your praise :) Hahaha, I'm glad you liked the Jujutsu Kaisen inspired one as well XD That character is sort of inspired by the real life me :) Yep, just a little silly fanfic I am making for a friend. The characters are From Jujutsu Kaisen but presumably you have not seen it (Probably not the kind of anime you watch anyway haha XD). Hahah, thank you for praising the buildings XD That is probably the part I am most insecure about XD I do think the perspective is mostly right, but the stairs inside the building are obviously wrong for example XD Well, that was just a sketch anyway, it wasn't meant to be perfect :) Hahah yes, not detailing was intentional! Not because I am lazy, yup XD But seriously, sometimes it is actually artistically the best choice to let the drawings breathe and not add too much detail. Regarding the character perspective, I have a suspicion the hind leg is out of perspective but I guess its not as noticable haha XD "It's clear you have a lot of practical knowledge" Hahah >.< That is very flattering. I still feel like I have a lot to learn but it makes me happy to hear you say that :) "I think I can learn a lot from you though we may be striving for different things" Once again extremely flattering >.< If there is anything I can teach you I will be sure to try :) And yes, of course we probably have different goals for our art, but if you think about it, this is what being an artist is all about, drawing the things only you can draw. Its not a bad thing, if anything its desirable :) I think equally you can teach me something about cute designs, or maybe more girly designs, and I can find my own way to apply that in my art :) This is the beauty of anime, experiencing all these different ideas and having them all coexist :) "I'm glad we're friends now! Thank you lots!" The pleasure is all mine Mew-chan :) Please do not feel in a rush to reply, if you are feeling bad about taking too long you can always leave me a small message , maybe I will reply with something to motivate you to finish faster as well haha XD Alright, it is now finally time to unveil why this message took me so long XD It is because I drew you 11 pages! Yep, count them, 11! Thank you @dorochan4! There is an episode in Sailor Moon R that had some really cute sketch-like shots, so I replicated it~ Apparently it is reminiscent of a style that is termed "Postcard Memories" online. Didn't realize there was a name for it before. |

@Fario-P Have you thought of trying traditional media? Better than trying to replicate it with textures like the first image which has nice line art. Gouache looks a lot like digital colour wise. |

@mewmewforever Hahaha, I actually was online when that happened and I went to read your message but it was already deleted XD I was like Nooooo Mew-chan has robbed me XD But its alright, it came through in the end XD
"I'm sorry for my constant late replies" Don't worry :) It's fine, now that I know the reply is coming even if you are a bit late the wait is easier :) I should also apologize for making you wait this time hahaha XD My policy is to reply as quickly as reasonably possible cause I feel like its probably more fun for you if you can get a reply quickly :) I actually did try to reply as quickly as I could but I severely overestimated my drawing speed and I didn't want to reply without having a drawing to go along with it :) You'll see :)
"Barely have energy to do anything lately.." Oh I'm really sorry to hear that :( I hope this message at least gives you some energy :) I feel like the more energy a person like you has the better it is for everyone haha :)
" I'm happy if we can just reply to eachother from time to time" Sure thing :) Whatever is best for you, but if you want to chat more that is also fine by me, send me a message any time :) (Also if I'm taking too long don't hesitate to ask for a progress report :))
"Don't worry about a long message, I don't mind reading it. In my case its part of my analytical personality, I just like to go over things again and again and really pour over everything haha XD Well, I think this is like one of the greenest flags in existence for me haha, I have a very high opinion of you now XD I think you are most likely an extremely good person that must be protecc'ed at all costs :)
Now the pressure is on to write you a thoughtful long message you can enjoy haha XD
Yes, I think Vocaloid is a very natural place to look for inspiration, or possibly some of the other popular female humanoid robots like Aigis (Persona 3) or 2B (Nier automata). Hahaha, well don't sweat the slowness so much, I find that things generally turn out better if you take it a bit slow. Your mind is always doing all sorts of calculations in the background and when you come back to it you will find that you have made more progress than you thought even though you didn't really actively do much :)
Hahah, I had a feeling you had probably played some dress-up games XD Love nikki huh? Never heard of it, one description I read about it having RPG elements made me a bit curious but its probably not my type of game haha XD I mostly play strategy games :) I had a look at this infinity nikki as well (strangely, the protagonist is called Nikki XD I thought it meant Diary but I guess its a double meaning XD). Honestly the graphics look phenomenal ! The first game looked like a flash game and so I was really surprised to see what looks like a medium budget 3D game for the second one XD Lots and lots of dialogue in this one from what I saw, I presume it has some dating sim elements as well. I don't know if this can be called a dress up game anymore haha XD But yeah, I think you should try it, it looks like a good game, I hope you have some well deserved fun after all the business you are enduring right now :) (And yes, you have confirmed my theory :)))))
"Look forward to more cat-ears soon! " Will do :) I actually have a few cat ears for you today as well :)
"I think we have a different definition of "cute"" Hahaha, probably you are correct XD Like you said everyone is a bit different. For me I would say I don't find these super duper cuddly babyfied designs all that cute. I don't know what a good example would be, I guess maybe this will do
I do find it somewhat cute still, but I think it would be cuter if it had like a runny nose or big eyebrows or something XD Basically for me I tend to find slightly goofy looking things cuter, or characters that are a bit feisty in a cute way, like My from Tanoshii muumin Ikka for example.
This is actually somewhat relevant to my drawing today because in that drawing I have a character who is very slightly "ugly" or "creepy" but in my opinion it just makes them cuter :) Let me know what you think about that when we get to it :)
"my improvement tends to come in breakthrough moments so the skill gap between drawings ends up becoming big a lot of time" Hahahm well if you got your "power-up" for free that is even nicer to hear :) I mentioned this earlier as well but I have also observed that time away can often be just as if not more beneficial than time spent practicing. If you are anything like me (which I guess considering we share the going over stuff again and again habit I think we might have a few more things in common) it probably works this way for you as well.
"I'm looking forward to drawing more things to show you!" I am also very interested to see what you make going forward :)
"Oh, an official artwork?...I'm too flattered.." Hahah, but its absolutely true XD It looks so "designed", I don't really know what it is XD I hope I will be able to praise you even more next time :)
Yes I think you should totally try adding blue to the shadows, this is actually a somewhat advanced art tip but I will tell it to you since its related. If you wanna draw like a really vibrant shadow, one trick you can do is to use a saturated blue instead of a desaturated gray, it will pop way more, try it out sometime :)
Aaahm, he was a guy??? XD I guess I shouldn't be surprised given the name is Hanzou, but I totally thought he was a girl XDD Its sort of unclear but to my eye it looked like he had the slighest of boobs so I am very surprised XD (and the eyes, haircut, body also look feminine). "Extreme grandpa voice" Back in my day, when you looked like a girl, you were one! XD Well I guess he is a bishounen or something XD I know you girls love those :)
Haha, yes I suppose I should not be making statements about your artstyle having only seen like 5ish drawings from you XD Its partly your fault for being so mysterious :)
"Let me know if you have any idea for some kind of addition or a new clothing" Sure thing!
You know, those straps that are attached to the waist and go over your shoulders), however, since this is a cool character they should not wear them over the shoulder but instead let them hang , I think it looks cool :)
"I just wanted to get my idea out on paper quickly" I totally get this, I am like this as well haha XD Even though I know that a finished painting can look amazing, I prefer a quicker sketch that gets the point across, I think its better for my development as well :)
"So that meant no sketch or guideline" Eeeehm XD Ok I think that might be taking it a bit too far XD I think a rough 5 minute sketch at least to have at 5% opacity in the BG can really help.
The next painting will go by a bit faster and the result will be a bit better as well :)
"Does bounce light count with the blue flames?" Ehm, well no, that is a direct light source XD bounce light would be like the blue flame light hitting the arm and then bouncing to hit the cap. Its generally a very subtle effect unless you are drawing caustics or the lightsource is very strong. But yeah, if you only improve the contrast in your next painting, I think that will already make a huge difference :)
"I usually use very soft colours, but I want to go more into these saturated style too" I get that XD I also tend to shy away from the saturated colours, quite often I don't even use the right half of the saturation scale haha XD Low saturation colours are more "safe" and look more grounded, but high saturation colours are really eye-catching, and they are necesessary to create a painting that looks "more real than reality" , I'm not sure if you know what I mean haha but basically like a hyper expressive vibrant painting. I also want to make an effort to employ more saturated colours :)
"I would often make the lineart layer dissapear when doing lined drawings so that I could check if it still looked okay" Hehe, it can be a good sanity test :) But an even better test is colouring the actual lineart to be roughly the same colour as the fill, so then the silhouette is not altered. You should colour the lineart anyway if you want a more vibrant end result :)
"But I quite like it when I can see the individual strokes that went into creating something" Right! To be honest, I don't want to dissuade you too much, I was merely stating what is the "rule of thumb" so to speak. To look at it from another perspective, a style like impressionism for example is all about brush strokes that are fully visible in the end result. I guess as long as it looks good that is all that matters. I suppose a style that really does not try to hide the brush strokes is sort of like a type of stylization where the "resolution" of the shapes is limited, its definitely not inherently wrong :)
Ah so it was a name XD Whenever I see 4 Kanji that I don't know its is usually a tell tell sign that its a name XD That is certainly a very cool name, Furumiya is an awesome surname (Old shrine), thought not as good as an S-tier surname like kageyama XD (Mountain shadow, or shadow Mountain?).
"I think it's great that you could decipher so much." Hehe, well I do read Japanese LN's every now and then so honestly I am a bit embarrassed I couldnt read everything XD
" I hope you can understand what I mean" I think I do. When I write something from my story I also try hard to put my feelings in the text. One way you can test it is by reading it yourself after some time and see if it makes you feel something. Of course you had only a few lines of text to play with but I think you succeeded in creating the feeling of "I want to read this work", which is exactly what the cover should accomplish :)
"No, I didn't write all of it on my own.. unfortunately I'm not that high level in Japanese" Hahah, I would be extremely shocked if you were XD But I take it you still know a little :) Well either way, you did a really good job:)
Hahah, thank you, her clothes are probably the most designed so far in my manga because she is the protagonist XD I'm glad you liked it, I always wonder whether its a bit too whacky XD And thank you for your compliments :) I supposes faces are like my specialty since I have the most experience drawing them XD It makes me very happy to hear your praise :)
Hahaha, I'm glad you liked the Jujutsu Kaisen inspired one as well XD That character is sort of inspired by the real life me :)
Yep, just a little silly fanfic I am making for a friend. Regarding the character perspective, I have a suspicion the hind leg is out of perspective but I guess its not as noticable haha XD
"It's clear you have a lot of practical knowledge" Hahah >.< That is very flattering. I still feel like I have a lot to learn but it makes me happy to hear you say that :)
"I think I can learn a lot from you though we may be striving for different things" Once again extremely flattering >.< If there is anything I can teach you I will be sure to try :) And yes, of course we probably have different goals for our art, but if you think about it, this is what being an artist is all about, drawing the things only you can draw. Its not a bad thing, if anything its desirable :) I think equally you can teach me something about cute designs, or maybe more girly designs, and I can find my own way to apply that in my art :) This is the beauty of anime, experiencing all these different ideas and having them all coexist :)
"I'm glad we're friends now! Thank you lots!" The pleasure is all mine Mew-chan :) Please do not feel in a rush to reply, if you are feeling bad about taking too long you can always leave me a small message , maybe I will reply with something to motivate you to finish faster as well haha XD
Alright, it is now finally time to unveil why this message took me so long XD It is because I drew you 11 pages! Yep, count them, 11! XD It is a short excerpt from my story, I have been wanting to draw it for some time now but somehow reading your previous message made my feelings boil over and so here we are XD So in a way I think I should thank you for your indirect motivation XD
But I also have something special for you :) I am not sure whether I should apologize or laugh about it, but anyway, here is a little present to celebrate your last drawing :)
Let me know what you think :) And here is my little manga excerpt :) I will explain more in my next message, for now I want you to experience it without additional commentary :)

"So that meant no sketch or guideline" Eeeehm XD Ok I think that might be taking it a bit too far XD I think a rough 5 minute sketch at least to have at 5% opacity in the BG can really help.
@Anjuro Hi! Sorry, this reply will be short because I'm busy with studying for my exams, but I really wanted to show you some drawings and reply to your message, so I tried my best to make some time. I'm really stressed out for my exams, even though I always do well.. (┬┬﹏┬┬) But anyways, let's get to the reply! ♡ Ahaha, Mew-chan? I just realized I never actually gave you a name you could call me by, but I think Mew-chan is cute and it works. From now on, you can keep calling me that (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ Don't worry about making me wait, I think you should take your time when you draw or prepare something to make sure it's the best it can be. It's true, I have to be super energetic! I'm really the type of person who's usually very cheery and smiley, so I want to try and stay that way because smiles are contagious, and I want everyone to smile. (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ Oh, god of cuteness? Maybe. (╯▽╰ ) Well, I was on a 4-day trip with my friend's older sister and her boyfriend (it was a trip for an organization I'm in at school, but I stayed with them the most). They were always helping me and making sure everything was okay because I was the youngest, and I'm really grateful to them for that. Why do I say this story? Well, I pretended not to hear, but every little thing I did I heard them whisper to eachother "so cute..!" hahahaha. Even when I was asleep (since I woke up because of noise, but I was trying to get back to sleep so they thought I was still sleeping). The boyfriend: "You know, when she suddenly came up to me and said thank you.." (because he bought me lahmacun ♪(^∇^*)) older sister: "You died of cuteness? Me too." I had to try my best not to laugh. It's nice, because I'm often worried that people might just pretend to like me, but when I overhear them talking like that I feel happy. I think they're both very caring, kind, beautiful and funny. It was a trip to Strasbourg, if you're curious. I had also gone on a 3-day trip the week before to the Ardens with my entire year, so I traveled a lot this November. Next to it being my birthday (16th november!), I did a lot of fun things. I spent all day with my mom and little brother making tiramisu-flavoured desserts because I adore tiramisu. Another tangent, oh dear.. Well, I hope you had fun reading it at least. XwX I am the biggest fan of vocaloid, it's true.. Near the end of October, I actually attended MIKU expo. It was great, I loved it lots. I got a KAITO pin for my little brother, ehehe. Maybe, you know SeeU. She is also a vocaloid, though not from Crypton (who made Miku and such..) I think I'll take a lot of inspiration from her, because her design is the cutest. I love SeeU a lot, maybe you can tell. It's true that taking it slow is sometimes better, it always helps me at least. (@^0^) (Here's a short video from MIKU expo: https://imgur.com/a/jwjKBnT the camera is very shakey, I'm sorry for that. I'm not the best at recording. XwX) Yes, well, it's mostly a dress up game. I think the RPG part is kind of on the side. You basically have to dress up and beat the opponent to advance the game, there's chapters and such. There's hundreds of events every month (which I cannot partake in mostly because I don't have the time or money,) but it's way cute. They even came out with Sanrio collab outfits in the game, I got a few of them but not all since some of them were with real money. Anyways, it's great and I take lots of inspiration from the clothes in it because they're just the cutest (most of the time). I guess it is a double meaning, huh? Strategy games.. I'll have to look into it. I'm super excited for when Future Nikki (is that what it was called? The 3D game) will release. I'll definitely give it a try. Yes, we definitely have different definitions of "cute". I do absolutely adore those babyfied designs like you said, but to a limit. I really thought Kyubey from Madoka Magica was adorable, but there's a version of a younger Kyubey which I honestly think is a bit less cuter. `(*>﹏<*)′ Here, I'll put a comparison. Normal Kyubey on the left, baby Kyubey on the right. Let me know what you think. Side note, I'd really love a Kyubey plushie.. Someday.. Also Kero-chan and Masha, or of any little magical girl mascot. They're perfect to make into plushies. Oh, the character you showed looks quite silly. I don't know if I'd call her cute, but I think she definitely looks funny and endearing. (╯▽╰ ) Sento-kun is too scary! I can just imagine him running at you.. Horror movie material. They should make a horror movie with Sento-kun. Noo, I don't want him to feel depressed either but I can't help it. He's terrifying. (;´д`)ゞ Thank you for the art tip, I'll try to take it into consideration in the next drawings. I really should try grayscale painting sometime, but I much preferred going straight in with colour because I like colour. (o゜▽゜)o☆ I know, he looks like a girl.. I got too used to drawing girls, but I'm trying my best out here to make him look more masculine. Actually, I just love long hair... That's it. \(゚ー゚\)/// I'm sorry for being mysterious, somehow I always end up being like that... It wasn't in the reference since that was before I changed it, but I did make it so the white lower part under his sweater also covered the shoulders. You can see it in the drawing, I think. Yes, more assymetry.. I will try. I love the ideas! A chain, kitty pin, suspenders.. I don't think the suspenders would work here, but I can add them to another outfit. Love ♡ Right, right, right, that's all true that you said about the contrast and saturation and such.. I will take it all into consideration. Hanzou's name was taken from Hattori Hanzou, a famous samurai from the 16th century. I thought it was a nice-sounding name and the history of Hattori Hanzou was interesting to read about. Maybe you can take a look if you haven't already. No, the outfit is really not too whacky at all! I think it's very interesting and I like all the different design elements that I wouldn't usually see elsewhere. Right, your faces are great, they really take my attention. Ohh, I see.. No, I haven't watched it. Maybe sometime (?) Even if the stairs in the building are wrong, it's not very noticeable, so I think it's okay. And it's true, not detailing too much in the background is very nice like you said. Oh my lord, the drawing.. I think I laughed for 10 minutes straight about it. A buff Mew Ichigo? `(*>﹏<*)′ Is that really how you view me? Oh dear.. I love the shocked face, it's so expressive and funny. I don't think it's something to apologize for, thank you, ahahahaha. It made me want to draw Mew Ichigo, too, so here we go.. I was working with markers again. I like how vibrant they are and they feel nice to use, too. I'm sorry that the quality is so bad, I didn't feel like taking my printer out and scanning it and all that.. There are lots of mistakes, like I think the ears are too big or look weird, but overall I like it. I especially liked the way I coloured the bell. The hands are also too small and the arms look strange, but.. Like I said, it's okay, I think. I definitely did prefer the sketch, though. I'm still trying to figure out how to make my drawings have that bleeding effect like Mia Ikumi had in her illustrations, (like in my profile picture). If you have any idea how to do it, it'd be appreciated. I'm looking for fineliners with coloured ink.. I have gel pens, maybe that will work. I'll try it out sometime. Oh, the manga you made is so great!!! I don't know where to begin. I think I read it 5 times over, just taking in all the art and dialogue. The colouring is great, the backgrounds are amazing, the faces again are super and the paneling too! I especially like the 3rd page where all the fog (clouds?) are surrounding the two characters and the perspective again is nice. That panel especially leaves a big impression. This idea of a world where you can't go outside feels really depressing but it's interesting to explore how life would be in such a world. The 5th page where Yasuragi is startled and calls Ada a vampire is so ridiculously cute and funny, hahahaha. I laughed. Ada is so cute and charming, the idea of her becoming a hair tornado is too funny. And she's so energetic! I like the last line, "That's how I met my best friend, who looks a little bit like a monster." It really feels like it's being said by a kid. And her trotting away is so cute. I think Ada has captured my heart. Everything is so expressive. I really don't know how to say this, but you did a really good job and I adore it. I'm looking forward to seeing more works from you. Here are a few drawings I made since last time. Since exams are coming, naturally, I've been drawing way more because I got nervous. I have lots more drawings in the works, I'm excited to show them to you once they're done too. None of these are my characters. The first one is fanart I decided to draw of someone's OC, the second one is for an art trade and the third is a gift for my friend. (。^▽^)I'm having fun experimenting! I'm actually not so happy with the second one, which I'm sad about because it's for someone else and I really wanted to make it as good as possible. But they liked it, so I think that's all that mattered in the end. (o゜▽゜)o☆ Also, one of the wings on the first one is bigger than the other, which is bugging me, but again, it's alright.. ehe ♡ Oh.. I told myself I wouldn't spend too long writing this, but I spent an hour.. Oops. I can't go back in time, so it's fine ;;w; I hope you like the long message hahaha. Have a good next week! o(*^▽^*)┛ |

Heads up, my friend watched the fuckin 4kids dub of the anime your profile picture is from unironically... i am NOT making this up. I might get him to join MAL later. Anyways, heres something I made like a year or 2 ago? it was around the time AoT was finishing up. My art more or less looks the same today. If I could get tips that'd be cool |

Drew for the first time in a very very very long time with my colored pencils, and its technically probably the best thing I've drawn but its a fucking League of Legends redraw. Made it for my now ex. Really need to draw more often but motivation is hard to come by. It was a lot of fun, forgot how much fun drawing was! Regret rushing the hand so much but at that point I just wanted to be done with it, this probably took 15-20 hours. |

@x-day that's really impressive, especially such shading with colored pencils what the heck?!?! |
