I think there already is an art megathread but maybe its dead already idk. Well I guess I'll show you my work since you asked :)

I drew this today. I was experimenting to see what would be a good muscle level for my character, enough that he looks strong, but not so much that it looks freakish, and of course I want the ladies to be able to enjoy it too (I keep hearing they wanna see the male nipples so I am trying to draw them in these days). Welp, let me know what you think :) (unfortunately I forgot to flip my drawing while I was working on it so the symmetry is sccuffed, but maybe its not too bad? copium)

@Anjuro It looks great! I love the lighting you did and the painting you did around the muscles looks good too. @mewmewforever Thanks! I think I'll still make improvements if I draw this character more, that's how it is, as you draw them more and more you start to simplify the shapes and figure out the essence of their design.

So I guess this is the art thread for now XD Not that anyone is really posting in the creative corner forums, I made a thread a few weeks ago that didn't even get one reply XD But I know first hand there are a lot of artists in the forums, you might be able to catch them easier in the casual discussion thread, or you could just talk to them directly. Welp, lets see if anyone else decides to post something :)

edit: Btw, your drawing was not too bad either. Its a lot harder to draw traditionally than digitally. Props for playing around with the pose a little bit, the line work is really good too. I guess the biggest problem is the perspective, like the leg and the arm looks kinda scuffed I think, but you'll figure it out eventually I'm sure :)

@Anjuro Yes, definitely, hahaha. It does seem that thread is inactive, so I hope this thread can garner lots of people. I'll see if I can find more artists on here, it'd be nice ~~ (If you have any art friends on here, feel free to direct them here, also!) I usually draw digitally but I've been having lots of fun doing traditional again, like I used to.. I think I consider myself a mixed artist, because both mediums are fun for me.

Thank you o(*^▽^*)┛ I'm still working on my perspective, hahaha, I hope I can get better at it soon. I want to make my drawings look more 3D and expressive in the future. Linework is actually one of my favourite parts of drawing, haha, it's way fun, and I love posing too.. Actually, I love every part of drawing hahaha.

I'm working on more drawings, one of someone else's OC and one of Ame-chan and Chouten-chan from Needy Girl Overdose. I hope those can be done soon so I can show them here as well! Well there's at least one person who I think might have something to post, that is @JKKH, let's see if I can summon them :) My manz/womanz is a really good artist, way way better than me, but I don't know what they're cooking these days.


These days I only draw digitally but for many years I would only draw traditionally. Even to this day, I feel like I can't quite translate my traditional style to digital, but its just too convenient drawing digitally haha XD


Its a difficult thing to master, and there are no shortcuts. The only advice I can give is always use construction, it makes a huge difference.


It is very satisfying to get like a really clean and expressive lineart, with nice line variation and clean confident lines. But it also takes so much effort lol XD I'm way too lazy to do it most of the time, I just use my initial scetch and clean it up as I go XD

But you shouldn't get too pidgeonholed into lineart, painting can be just as fun. Its super intimidating, especially if you paint on 1 layer (which I think you should) but also very rewarding. And honestly, its not that hard to get a basic painting done, it just takes a while. Well, at least for me, I always look back much more fondly on my paintings than my lineart so even though they are tiring I do try to make some every now and then.

But It sounds like you are really enjoying drawing, that's always good:) Many artists feel unhappy with their art skills and feel in a rush to improve.


Sure keep em coming, I don't mind giving you some critique if you want :) Chouten-chan is a weird name lol (it means peak), for a second I thought you wrote Zecchou-chan XD Now that would have been something XD My character is called Marzu, well that's the name I have given him for now, I am still thinking about it...


Aww thanks, that's some high praise :) Well I guess I have been drawing for close to 10 years now, its hard to call myself a beginner anymore, even though I am still not very good. I do think I sort of have formed something of a recognizable style, there's just a certain way I like to make the shapes.

Sure I don't mind posting a couple more, I'll try to squeeze one out today. It'll be a drawing of Katia, Marzu's girlfriend :)

Definitely, it has proven very difficult thus far. I'm using construction, too!

I tried painting with watercolours a bit ago, but it was difficult.. I like the way watercolours look, though, so I'm doing my best to learn them. I usually just use coloured pencils or markers, hahaha. Digitally, I'm trying to strive to a painting style as well.. You'll see, don't worry. (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧

I'd be so happy if you could critique my stuff, haha. It'd help a ton. Well, Chouten-chan is spelled 超てんちゃん, which may be a strange name, but I think it fits the character. Kind of like transcending humanity, since she called herself the "internet angel". I like that character a lot.

Oh yay! Don't rush yourself because of me though please, hahaha. I'm looking forward to it. Marzu and Katia are pretty-sounding names, what do they mean?

Oh yeah, I have also done a few watercolor experiments, like you said its very hard. Particularly if you mix it with ink like I did it seems to go badly because the ink start to spread when you start working on the watercolours.

Well I guess if it fits the character thats all that matters. You know, my real name is angel so I am something of an internet angel myself :) I'm not going to be transcending humanity anytime soon though XD



Don't worry, I was already working on it, I was probably going to work on it today anyway :)

Ehhm well, I don't think they really mean anything lol XD The way I like to name my characters is first I draw them and then I try to think what kind of name would fit them. Sometimes I will just type out the first syllable and see if I can come up with a name that sounds right, other times I might think of a word and try to come up with a name that incorporates that word somehow. In this case Katia is just a regular name, but I thought it fit the character (she is a badass warrior lady). For Marzu I think I had decided that I wanted the name to end with "zu" and I was trying out different combinations, if you must assign it a meaning I guess it sounds a lot like how a Japanese person would say "Mars" but its only a coincidence. The idea for this name was to reflect that the character is a bit of a softie (hence why it starts with a soft sound like M) but you can depend on him when things get serious. That's the kind of vibe I was going for anyway :)

I like the pose in the last one the body is more detailed and proportional. Did you use a reference or something?

@Anjuro Yes, at first I tried using a coloured ink with watercolour. It bled everywhere. But if I use my regular black pen, it's fine, so no coloured ink for me.. Until I find one that doesn't bleed, at least, hahaha.
If you're harsh, it's good, because then I can understand better what to fix. Yes, ten probably stands for heaven. They must have written it in hiragana to make it look cuter, but then making chou in kanji so people don't confuse it as peak like you thought ahaha. Oh, Angel is such a cute name! Probably don't trascend humanity though, hahaha.. (*/ω＼*)
Ah, that's it! I like that you could convey the personality or essence of a character with the sounds used in their names. My own OC has native Japanese name, so I just use kanji to make my own name ahaha. I like how meaningful a name like that can be.

I actually also use just black ink, using a g-pen like a real manga artist :) But it still bled for me, maybe the type of ink matters as well

Yeah, I really like coming up with a name that fits, its really satisfying :) I was wondering about that, Akira is kind of a strange name for a girl lol, its usually a boys name (Although I have a faint memory of hearing a girl named akira as well). In Japanese especially picking the kanji for a name gives the name a lot of meaning, its onf of the things I really admire about Japanese.

Anyway, took a little bit longer than I would have liked, got distracted doing other things, but I finished that drawing I was working on :) Not my finest work but I do kinda like it :)



The clothe design was tough, I am still not happy with the outfits to be honest (also I think I messed up the perspective slightly, doesn't quite look right lol), especially Katia's outfit looks really bland haha (I mean she is basically just wearing a bikini XD). But the problem is I don't want to cover anything up, I wanna show the stronk legs, and you gotta have some abs in there, and I mean you can't cover up the boobs don't be crazy XD So really the only area that's left is the arms. Earlier I had given her pauldrons but they looked silly so I removed them. Welp, maybe I should design her some kind of weird sleeve thing that just covers the arms somehow... hmmm...

Welp, I guess I'll figure it out. I wonder if you've made any progress on your drawing ?

since I took so long I guess I'll post another artwork that I did, this one is a bit older but still fairly recent :)

Hiragana looks cute and soft, katakana looks sharp and rough, and kanji looks more elegant or official.. That's what it seems like to me, at least, hahaha. I do think it looks cuter that way ;;w;

Indeed, Akira is quite a strange name.. But most names can be used for both genders, so it's okay, ahaha. It comes from 晶, and also chose the name because it sounds similar to "kira kira", or you could use the nickname "Kira-chan" which i think is way cute. I usually stylized her name to be written as all caps "AKIRA" (even in Japanese writing) because it looks nice, though ,,w It's also because it sounds similar to 起きる that I chose it. Indeed, this character loves shiny objects. And she tends to use the suffix -kira to sentences when she gets a bit excited, hahaha.. I think it's cute, at least.

Oh wow, I'm once again left in awe of the painting. It really does look so nice. I like zooming in to see all the little details and individual brush strokes on drawings that take my interest, and of course I ended up doing that here too haha.. Though it is quite the.. revealing outfit （；´д｀）ゞ.. I think covering up a little bit will make her more beautiful, but maybe that's just me.. I'm someone who do Some kind of loose top that cuts at the stomach with long flowy sleeves and shorts is what I think of. Maybe that will inspire you and you can create a clothing design you like.

Not yet. It seems my motivation for drawing mostly only comes if I'm stressed, so.. I haven't had much motivation lately, hahaha. Maybe it's a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing. I'm not quite used to that feeling X_X I'm working on it slowly.. The sketch is finished and I'm doing lines now~~

Oh, it looks great. You put the character in an environment, and I love how you put a thicker line to differentiate it.. It's really quite nice. I love it.

Kanji definitely looks more dignified and adult, so I guess by comparison hiragana looks like it was written by a child or something (well, in theory, because as far as I'm aware Japanese kids learn to write their name as soon as first grade even it uses difficult kanji XD). Katakana is usually used only for foreign or alien names (like an extraterrestrial's name, a robots name, a demons name etc. ). I guess because hiragana is round and katakana is angular maybe that creates an ascociation much like character design does (e.g spikilly designed characters are typically more chaotic and edgy, whereas round characters are more relaxed and chill). I guess ultimately its up to interpretation cause there are many factors :)


eeehm I don't think that's really the case, I mean of course you can do it but you are knowingly breaking the "rules" when you give a boys name to a girl, some names are unisex though, like tsubasa for example.


Huh, thats interesting, that kanji usually means crystal, I see it in a lot of games. I checked and apparently it can be read as "Aki" when its used for a name but otherwise it is pretty much always read "shou". You really dug deep with this one huh XD

I gotta say, that is even weirder than having a girl be named akira lol XD I am trying to think of any other examples where a character has a name that is written in all capital letters, but its really uncommon. Basically all capitals usually means its not the name of a person,I think mechas will sometimes have an all caps name but I can't think of any examples though. Well, if nothing else it is certainly unique, if a little bit on the nose. Honestly If you want to create unique names I think you might want to look into double or triple names, something like "Yan wen li" or "houjou go" comes to mind from the anime I've watched. They can sound quite exotic :)


hmm, very strange XD I'm not sure why you would want a name to sound like "getting up" , but I am sure there is a reason. Maybe because it sounds like the person is cheerful and perky like they just get up in 2 seconds like my dog when I come home? XD


The first thing that came to mind when I heard this is this
Light Yagami: That's right... I am Kira!
AKIRA: kira kira?

kinda funny as it also ends up being a pun :) I don't mess around with sentence suffixes but when done right they can be cute. I think its a little bit overbearing for the suffix to be the persons name though, I mean how self centered is this person XD I bet they also do that thing where they refer to themselves in third person XD

But some suffixes can really enhance a character, like I love how naotsugu from Log horizon uses the "matsuri" suffix. I assume its derived from 祭り so it can be quite comedic at times, like when someone says something dumb and naotsugu replies "sore ha auto matsuri" XD I just love the idea of an "out festival" where everyone is just getting struck out or something XD

I feel like especially this time I really got sloppy and it feels kinda embarassing for you to be zooming into the mess I made XD I usually draw on my tiny laptop screen and rarely do I even zoom when drawing, so honestly for the most part I can't be held responsible for what happens when you look at my drawings at 2x zoom XD But hey, if you liked what you saw maybe its not so bad XD



Me explaining why it is necessary for the story that 90% of the skin is uncovered


Haha, I mean I don't think you're wrong, I hear ya. At the end of the day its kinda boring as well. But I do think for this character its important to show off some skin, because she is supposed to be this sort of front line fighter, barbarian-tomgirl sort of gal. I think the amount of exposed skin shows off her confidence in her body and its also kinda like a point of pride to show off her battle scars and muscles. But yeah I do think I need to come up with something for her design.


The girl in my forum profile pic (also drawn by me) actually wears something like that, Maybe I can draw her and see how you like that :) In her case she is more of a "thinking girl" so she doesn't show off as much skin (well usually, she is also extremely lazy so when she is at home alone she will weat what is most comfortable which is probably not a lot of clothes XD).


Hahaha, I thought I was the only one XD I'm always like that. Oh I need to do something literally right now? Hmmm, how about I drew something instead, yeah yeah, I have a sudden burst of inspiration, it would be a waste not to take advantage right? XD


Ah well it happens my motivation also fluctuates a lot. One day I am drawing all night, the next day I can't even pick up the pen XD Welp, I guess you'll get around to it eventually. I do think a little bit of discipline can also be good when it comes to drawing so you are not so reliant on "being in the mood" to draw but of course there's no point to drawing if it makes you unhappy.



Yup Mr.pig is vibin in the forest with this one :) I rarely draw backgrounds but I have been trying to force myself to draw them here and there cause I seriously suck at them XD

Haha, the entire concept for this character is sparkly things. A crystal shines and sparkles, so that's why I chose it.

Well, she is not really a human hahaha. Like a robot/ AI idol, maybe like Hatsune Miku but with more focus on concerts and performances (and even sentient.. O_O) So, considering that, I think AKIRA even as a strange name fits well.

That's it! She's extremely cheery and bubbly and picks herself (or others) up whenever anything would happen, kind of similar like getting out of bed. I hope you can understand what I mean, ahaha.

Hahaha, she would totally say that. It is pretty funny, isn't it??! Well, of course it's not used in every sentence.. that would get annoying really quickly, but sometimes just throw it in there when she's feeling a lot of emotion. (In the Light Yagami case, maybe she was feeling a great deal of confusion or admiration..? I'm not sure, but she must have been feeling something ,,w,) Maybe it's like Usada Pekora's -peko suffix, but AKIRA's suffix -kira comes rather from kira kira rather than her name. Though it sounds similar. Puns upon puns upon puns with this girl.. Maybe sometimes she does go third-person mode. I think it's cute. Oh.. out festival.. That sounds like a mess. A funny mess, but a mess nonetheless (that rhymed!)

It's just a habit of mine, hahahaha. I do really like it, the messy look I enjoy much more than the super clean style. (Like the style in most idol games..) It feels like it has more life (?). It does look good though, don't worry! ❤︎

Right. A lot of artists have that problem, it seems, not even people who draw or paint.. Other kinds of creators like authors, singers, and dancers as well I think face that issue.

For a year I disciplined myself to draw even when I didn't feel like it, and it only resulted in my art block going on longer.. It's only recently once I've started telling myself "You don't have to draw, you can draw later when you want to" that I've started to enjoy creating again. So, I think it's better to wait until I feel like it.

Wow, based on this I'd have thought you drew backgrounds all the time. It is really good, I can't wait to see what your backgrounds start to look like in the future too!

Ok with this new piece of information it makes a lot of sense XD That is a cool concept for a character. But I think maybe you could add something to the design to indicate this, like Miku for example has that number tattoo kinda like how mechs or even real world devices/robots have information printed on them. Her colour palate is kinda "technological" with that teal motif and she has all sorts of buttons and displays on her skirt and sleeves. AKIRA just looks like a regular high schooler XD Maybe that's what you were going for but still you could add something to spice it up. I guess we both have some thinking to do with out designs :)


Gotcha! The idea is very cute but very hard to get across without explicitly explaining it. I feel like there is probably a word that fits better, maybe one of those -ya words like ganbariya (a person who tries hard) but I can't think of one right now :(


Hehe, well hey, if it looks good to you I'm happy to hear it XD I do understand what you mean that a messy style has "more life in it", when everything is super clean it can feel a little bit suffocating (I don't know what you mean by "idol games" though lol XD). Its the same concept that happens when you sketch something, the initial sketch looks super lively, and then when you clean it up with solid clear lines it can often lose that playfulness and energy it had. Generally speaking it usually means the lineart is just not very good when this happens, the reason the sketch looks so lively is because your brain is sort of imagining the best possible lines out of all the ways you could clean the lines up, so if the lines in the final sketch are not capturing the gesture of the sketch of course the sketch will look better. Of course sometimes a messy style just does look good even without cleanup. If nothing else its a time efficient style which is why I tend to do mostly messy sketches.


I don't mind. She is my main girl (actually she is the protagonist of the hypothetical manga I am working on) but I don't draw her that often :) I'll see if i can come up with an interesting pose :) I never use references so I rely a lot on inspiration.


If you are refering to artists block then yeah, its super common. But it must also be said, there are professional artists out there that draw every day. I think being a professional artist and a hobbyist artist is a bit different in that regard. The pro has to draw no matter what, so they develop the ability to draw even when they are not particularly inspired, the hobbyist draws for fun, so it is harder for them to find the motivation to hone this skill, after all, even if you could theoretically draw everyday, that doesn't mean doing so would maximise your enjoyment, and if you are a hobbyist the enjoyment is probably the most important thing.


hehe, lol not at all, I am truly terrible at drawing backgrounds XD I'll tell ya a little secret, its fairly easy to draw backgrounds that don't have scale. When you start getting into the nitty gritty where the lines have to be parallel or everything looks out of perspective and objects have to be scaled relative to the distance from the camera it starts to get difficult. I really need to practice drawing perspective lines and keeping things consistent (and also how to make interiors look good and stuff) but I am generally much more interested in drawing characters so I rarely do XD

Yes, I think it's a good idea. She's referred to as an "electric angel" created to be the perfect human, so thus.. an angel. Hahaha. (It's also a reference to a song, maybe I'll change the title for that reason but since she's just an OC and not really used for a manga or something it's fine. Bonus points if you know the song, it's super popular (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧) I was thinking her wings might be more metallic rather than soft, but I'm not sure yet, so I've been drawing them as a soft texture for now.
Also, she does not usually wear that clothes. I just felt like drawing her in it, because I love designing new clothes and dressing up my OCs. It's so fun.. Here is her usual clothes, let me know if it's still too "high-schooler-y". I also included in the spoiler one of her previous versions where she did not yet have the wings nor entire concept.. She was just a girl, she didn't even have a name hahahaha.

Both of these are from a year or so ago, my style doesn't look like that anymore.. Hahaha. I'll draw her in her normal outfit again sometime (maybe) ,,,w,

I see.. I'm someone who prefers to spend a long time on one drawing, I just think it's more fun. Of course, it made me a slower artist but.. I don't mind, hahaha. It's just nice to spend so long on a project and then once it's done you'll be like "Wow! I did it!" It really feels rewarding. Because of that, I really love drawing my characters in scenes but recently I've been doing more "sticker" type things.
And with idol games, I mean like this.

Right, scale.. Drawing things with scale is really difficult, huh??! I'm working on my perspective, because I love drawing background just as much as characters. Though it's a bit intimidating and I don't do it so often.. Well, I prefer the colouring for backgrounds than the actual drawing and sketching part ;;w
