No Rupa. If anyone needed more fleshing out it's her. She didn't got a dedicated episode even Tomo got one. Wished she got one as being Indian representative.

Also in SEA aswell. Atleast far far more than anything in the west who choosen Ninja Kumshot as better anime than this. Every "judge" should be hanged for that.

But sequel probably is unlikely. Even 4-5 more episodes could have fleshed the ending better. End of episode 11 felt so much better than 13 one.
I just didn't care about pink girl. You can't do anything in 1 episode just felt rushed and weird and just wrong to Nina. Would have served better as proper antagonist.

It just felt good to see everyone backing Nina even if at expense of pro contract. Which was the only reason Rupa & Tomo joined at the first place. More than being overshadowed by Di Dust which is in turn again is wrong to Nina & Momoka. The agency wasn't feeling like a problem they were giving them independence and resources.

OP shows they succeded eventually. The official timeline is: anime episodes -> ED animation (depicting events of TT's indie touring) -> OP animation (their concert at the Budokan).

This is very wishful thinking. But their progess indeed was way rapid. That's why I would have preferred a fairy tale type ending of them beating Di Dust and a last scene mirroring the OP. This just feels ok...

Rupa's character is a huge minefield or "can of worms" for Toei / GBC staff. They decided not to make her a stereotypical western blonde girl, but a more realistic asian immigrant. Problem is, fans managed to piece together enough bits of info from official fanbooks and audio dramas to pinpoint that Rupa is (half)-nepalese.

Now, japanese people are xenophobic or at least severely isolationist and don't like foreigners, all and any kinds of them, staying beyond short-term tourism. Anime-manga otaku especially have a tendency to associate with the "patriotic" far-right. Previously koreans and philippines living in Japan were targeted the most by "black van" loudspeakers, but by now nepalese immigrants (app. 2500 people total, mostly 1st and 2nd generation refugees of the nepalese civil war) are the most singled-out ethnic group for expulsion propaganda.

Toei staff can keep Rupa a "mysterious" character with a blurried background and the otaku will gloss over it, since they like her personality and design a lot. Elaborate on her backstory and the otaku would be forced to choose between their adoration for GBC and Mishima Yukio, with the latter winning. (Btw, it's pretty obvious that Rupa didn't tell the truth to Tomo about her parents having died in an accident, they were likely victims of the nepalese civil war. Notice how she wears a combat vest in all concerts.)

Not worth opening such a can of worms, especially now, when GBC still has no gacha game, so the franchise entirely depends on real-life Togenashi Togeari band performances. TogeToge are down to just 3 girls and can't afford to retire another member. Among TT girls, Shuri (in-anime Rupa) is the prettiest and an exceptionally talented bassist, who is also most active on social media - she seems to greatly enjoy being the "court jester" of TogeToge and her postings reach a lot of fans. Creating a Rupa disaster would also knock Shuri out of the picture and that would be game over for GBC!

I wish the last song was as bombastic as the first one, the songs throughout the anime were amazing and the characters were written incredibly well, they had their flaws and seeing the flaws work together in the final few episodes feels great. This felt more like the first step in a great direction, its a damn shame there has been no talk about a second season or second core.

hm...
this show is another one ive got mixed feelings in. at times its kinda good, other times its not.
the show felt pointless and nothing was achieved but also it was more "real" with how a band like that might be.

the songs were good. the voice acting was mostly meh or just fine.
the cgi was good, but they still decided to draw some characters and mixmatch cgi/drawn making it look weird.

some of the drama was a bit dumb and it was hilarious when all of a sudden nina would rock out on a guitar mid argument

In one audio drama (included on Blu-Ray) Rupa mentions she hails from a country of very high mountains. In ep11, during the "Emptiness and Catharsis" on-stage performance / music video, a flashback very briefly shows long-haired Rupa bringing flowers to a military cemetery. (Toei staff later confirmed that was Rupa, not her sister or anyone else.) Nepal had a long-winding civil war starting in late 1990s, sending hundreds of thousands of refugees abroad, including ~2500 to Japan.

Really this has an 8.3 and gets hyped by everyone? This had so much unnecessary and annoying drama and the show is just mid.

When original airing season (spring 2024) ended, GBC had 8.46 MAL score and was second highest behind the winner Hibike Euphonium s3 (8.62 points and from the same scriptwriter).
Since then, GBC's score has been gradually decreasing due to western viewers downvoting as they can't understand nor accept Iseri Nina's personality and also because of Bocchi fans downvoting out of jealousy.

> This had so much unnecessary and annoying drama

For music-themed anime with unnecessary drama, see the Bang Dream franchise (It's MyGo and Ave Mujica) which provide plenty of that. In contrast, everything that happens in GBC has purpose: Momoka and Nina have to come to terms with their past, Tomo must learn to accept other people, etc.

> the show is just mid

GBC has great staying power throughout Asia exactly because there is nothing mid about it. They've seen countless many made-for-TV anime for decades, but never seen one where every aspect was de luxe. GBC had tremendous cost and talent invested in it and it shows.

@Tacsk0 very interesting! also i've heard that nepalese are the third-largest immigrant population in tokyo after chinese and korean, so this might very well be likely!

I'm kinda bothered about one thing, they said that Momoka's song was the reason behind the decline of their views but then how can their fans determine whether the song is good or not if they haven't actually hear the song (and thus the song would gain views).

I'm a bit mixed about the last 2 episodes but overall I really liked anime. At some point I found the characters to be frustrating but at the same time I understand why they act the way they are. The drama are also good and I found them relatable to my situation at some part.

One thing that's really worth of appreciation is definitely the 3D style animation which I found really good (even better than bandori), they are super expressive and also makes the band performance much more stand out.

I feel like it's inevitable that I'd compare this anime with Mygo!!!!! since they're both are pretty similar to each other, but in the end I think I prefer Mygo!!!!! over GBC since I found Mygo!!!!! more consistent than GBC (and I like their song better).

I thought they going to end the anime with them performing at Budokan since this is an original anime. I hope they'll have their chance in season 2 or whatever that'll come in the future

I enjoyed the series but I feel it's method of storytelling makes it way harder to understand than it needed to be for something so simple which hindered my ability to understand why Nina was so dramatic all the time until the end. The conflict and realization by Nina over Hina felt stupid because she was pushing her views on Nina, how can she say Nina was wrong just because she did something she would not do? That was her own decision.

I heard there could potentially be a continuation of this and I will stick to it if there is more to come.

I absolutely loved watching Girls Band cry. It was a really good show. Great story, with actually good progress, great chacter design, and music! Especially the CGI animation rocked!

But what is with this ending? Like bro this ending is way to sudden, and rushed. Despite all the character backstories being finally revealed it also it leaves questions to me…
What happens now? So their song from episode 12 was a flop, they didn’t sell out the venue and resigned from the agency but what now? The show just kinda suddenly ends here. . The ending makes it seem very questionable whether the band can actually get successful/survive now? For a manga adaptation such an ending would be acceptable but this is an anime original. There is literally no sequel planned, This is literally all the story that exists. Like sure you can make an open ending. A lot of anime I really enjoy have an open ending but the ending of girls Band cry is in my opinion to much of a cliffhanger - to much anticlimatic

Personally that’s why this show, despite me really really liking it only gets a 9/10. Like I said the show was really good, but the fact that it is kind „missing“ a proper end kinda dragged the whole show down a bit

> There is literally no sequel planned
During the recent debut of GBC recap movie part 1, a sequel (or prequel?) movie based on brand new story has been announced. A mobile game called GBC "First Riff" has also been announced. but nobody knows if it's gatcha, rythm or even fighting themed? Thus the franchise continues.

Anyhow, the TV anime ED shows what happens after TogeToge resigns from their label / agency: they become an indie touring band and gradually work their way all up to a performance at the famed Budokan, as shown in the OP animation. By the way, TT's real-life Budokan concert happened on 23 Sep 2025 and was a big success.

Part 2 of GBC recap movie will screen in mid-November and maybe we'll get more announcements at that time. TV-based season 2 is unlikely though, since GBC's production cost 3x the money and time investment versus "ordinary" anime, so Studio TOEI needs to monetize it hard now to turn a profit.

A sequel (or prequel?) GBC movie based on brand new story has recently been announced.

Even if official manga doesn't happen, fans will create it:
