Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san Episode 1 Discussion

Usually I try to rough it out until the third episode at least, but this was absolutely unbearable. Roshidere has decent production quality, and seems like something that'd probably leverage the tropes of harem anime to its advantage with the somewhat interesting twist of the heroine thinking the main character can't understand some of her words. This is a bit disappointing to me, as I went in blind and was expecting the language element to play a more significant role in the development of both main characters. Unfortunately (I don't really know why I put this word in, I don't really care either way), this show is not for me. It would have thrived in the golden age of harems back in the early 2010s, which is also around the time I would have been the right age to find episode one panty shots transgressive and riveting. I have no idea what it's doing coming out now, and I don't know whether it a result of the times or just the evolution of my own tastes that I find the first episode incredibly dated and uninspired. I won't be continuing this.

I don't normally care much for other people's opinions on anime, but it's been a little surprising to me that I haven't seen a single other person that shares my opinion on it. Probably stupid of me to care this much, but it's nice to find a kindred spirit in that sense.

They draw all the girls' eyes so beautiful, what the heck.

Also, I really really hope that they are not going to make it a harem because the amount of girls Kuze could be romantically interested in is just way too high. But since Alya-San is the title character it's unlikely I guess.

@KFB0054 : Taste is subjective, and it's up to everyone to decide whether or not they want to continue watching it. No point in trying to change that. I do want to point out however that both NerdAlert and - seemingly - you draw some very oblivious and faulty conclusions out of a mere first episode.

First and foremost, Roshidere is no harem (which by my definition would require at least 3 girls vying for the ML's romantic love). This renders most of the criticism moot. The panty shot - fine. A typical hook for both viewers and readers. I'll just say that this isn't typical for the show either. If this one scene is enough to steer you off track, you're probably better off watching something else anyway.

I think the majority of the viewers either are less susceptible to hasty conclusions or don't mind them. Personally, I'd say that the production values are fantastic, and even though the first episode went through the material much faster than I would have expected, I can understand why they wanted to add the final scene in ep1. We'll see how things go in ep2.

It was a good first episode, nothing new but the premise is funny.
I hope it does not rely much on the cliches presented in this first episode.

I really liked this first episode, Alya is so cute when she speaks Russian. I can’t wait to see the relationship between them grow, I think they are very cute together even though it might be your “typical” MC

holy shit her russian is god awful kinda ruins the whole gimmick for me. Couldn't they cast someone who actually fluent in it? I hope maybe the english dub will be better in that regard. Still I'm gonna keep watching because Alya's design is peak with that white hair

@N7Grey As a native Russian speaker, I thought her pronunciation was very cute. In Russia, many people watch it with Russian dubbing, I watch this title with subtitles, it’s an interesting experience. Hmm, the Russian-speaking audience on local sites is mostly dissatisfied with her pronunciation. I am among the 30% who are satisfied
