Some of it felt a bit oddly rushed, especially Julia's death, which could've had more impact than it actually did in the show. But, the ending with The Real Folk Blues playing in the background just felt immensely satisfying. On paper, a finale like this should seem awful, but it oddly works. And it actually did really make me care for Spike, Jet, and Faye especially. This series really did go out with a 'bang'.

Aw man it really does feel like a dream doesn't it? But he is dead. The man who always spoke of putting your past behind is really dead.

The old guy's view on death was inspiring. Do not be afraid of death, for the fear will make death come to you even faster.

I LOVED the full version of the ED so much. I wish that they had shown what happens to the other characters, that would've made the ending a lot more complete. Otherwise this series is a solid 8/10. There were a couple weak eps that had potential. But Cowboy bebop has such an aesthetic appeal,a fitting soundtrack and great animation.

I'll be carrying that weight

Such a beautiful episode. Most of my complaints from the previous one were fixed in this finale, and I'm thankful for that. While it was still a little hard to feel the impact of Spike, Julia and Vicious, since there were so little episodes about them three and it's been a while since their story had been relevant in my mind, they still managed to fill the gaps of their relationship with tiny bits of flashbacks, and it was a BLAST to see.

In the end, what I wished for the most for the finale actually happened, to a certain degree. Seeing Jet and Faye worry about Spike, and talk about how the Bebop was the only place they could call home, regardless, but especially, because of their past. That scene alone made me tear up a little bit.

I also loved the stars at the end, showing how insignificant this story was in the grand scheme of things. Plus, Spike's star fading away... It hit me in a way I can't explain. I wasn't sad, nor did I cry. I was happy, in a way, for Spike.

80% of the episodes of Cowboy Bebop were an absolute BLAST, while 10% were fine, and fun to watch, and the other 10% were bad (in my book). But, even then, I loved the creative freedom behind this project and, while it had a lot of clichés here and there, it had some of the most natural characters and entertaining episodes I've seen in a long time. Plus, the soundtrack alone is a 10/10.

Everyone has their own guardian star. Those stars differ across each person, but one thing remains the same: they give us the warmth we need in order to survive. Spike, Faye, Jet, Julia, even Vicious(as shown in this episode) all had some star of their own. But was Spike ever alive? Was he finally able to understand his star?

No. For his star has fallen. We can only watch as its warmth and its soul fade into... infinity. And witnessing this, of course, we mourn. For some of us, very deeply. But then... we move forward, drifting through life's motions until our stars do the same.

The blue star and the red star - each give us part of a picture that we can never make sense of. What even is reality if we can't tell the two apart? Is it all a dream? Who knows? Inevitably, they all fall. And for most of us, that is all we will ever truly know in life.

I loved the ending credits and its symbolism. Watching Cowboy Bebop was an amazing experience. I can't believe this went from a 7 to an 8 to a 9(the previous episode) to a ~10 for me. My favorite episode of anime so far.

RIP Spike… I feel bad for Faye :(
I usually get so depressed with sad endings but I’m fine with them now… and I quite enjoyed the Anime till the very last moment.
Also I wonder how Ed is doing with her dad, I love Ed and Ein so much haha. All of the characters were really lovable and fun, it was a very enjoyable ride!

Rewatching this gave me a new appreciation for it all over again.
The dream analogy and the whole never letting go of the past was so well done.

Truly a masterpiece of an anime and it still holds up after 20+ years with it's animation, story and just amazing quality overall.

Huh… it’s pretty obvious spike is not dead… lots of clues throughout the whole series and that episode that imply that Julia is dead, and, has been, for quite sometime, and, also, the fact that spike does not die in the end. It’s obvious.

Rewatching Cowboy Bebop after 8 years, it's still true that the overarching narrative is rushed and slightly nonsensical, and the whole draw is the characters. I didn't realize before how blatantly Julia is a poorly written plot device that has no character of her own; she exists as an embodiment of Spike's obsession with his past, because when does a guy have such an attachment to his past except over a woman? Making The Real Folk Blues even a four parter so Julia could've been an actual character with more than 5 minutes of screen time and the events hadn't been paced so quickly would've elevated the show substantially.

It's funny, after the first half of the show I was pretty sure I would be uprating Cowboy Bebop from a 7 to an 8, but it's still a 7. Still a good time; I'll have to rewatch some of the better episodes.

Lol, what a load of bullshit claim without any evidence to back it up. If anything, the fading star at the end is a sign of Spike's death connected to the previous conversation he had with the Native American guy. Besides, when he went down he was surrounded by enemies, do you think they will take him to a hospital even if he hasn't died yet?

Yap yap yap! Don’t care ;)
Julia isn’t even there, she died long ago.
It’s all metaphorical. Julia represents spikes past, don’t really feel like explaining the other characters metaphors, but, the show is full of them. Spikes “death
“ is a metaphor for him finally letting it go. Don’t think he’s dead, the creator even said so… can’t argue that ;】p

Lucky for me I’m actually a person with a real life, so this statement is just pure psychological comedy to me. Anime is just fun for me, not a lifestyle. No offense to those that see it as one though, whatever worx ;)

I feel the ending wouldn't have had as much as an impact if Spike lived. If it was just a happily ever after ending it would've felt like a much generic.

At the end of the day Spike accomplished his 2 main goals, and he lived the life he wanted to live despite the sadness surrounding it, so I think of it as a "positive" death. Such a great series.

For real, the last few eps of cowboy bebeop really were sad, from Ed+ein leaving, the weight on Faye, death of Julia, and the bittersweet death of Spike, with only Jet seeming to have a happy ending.

omg Ed and Ein leaving made me cry!! i really would’ve hoped we got more on Julia bit then again I like how it was just plainly shown that she was a part of Spikes past and that she had an important role in his life. Faye definitely deserved so much more. Jet deserved the happy ending after everything that happened with him. I wish they would’ve done more with Faye and learning more abt her past too.

Good stuff, though I’ve never understood why The Real Folk Blues is hailed as the best Bebop episode. While Spike is the lead protagonist of the series, he’s ultimately the least developed of all the characters through having one episode dedicated to him at the beginning and one at the end, which causes the sudden rush of character development to come way too late into the series. Enough of his background is shown in Ballad of Fallen Angels and Jupiter Jazz to get the picture across, though there isn’t the same level of confrontation or resolution as there is with a character such as Faye. All that being said, I get why people care about him and his episodes so much. Cowboy Bebop wouldn’t be nearly as cool or funny without him.

In retrospect, I’ve finally come to see this show for what it is, which is pretty damn good with a handful of episodes that either teeter on being too meandering or unintentionally silly. Yet, I can’t really tell how I’d improve the structure of this series since the appeal of it lies in the blend between the bounty and character development episodes, which gives it plenty of time to be engaging and lots of space for the character drama to settle. That’s why I don’t understand how people can complain about the bounty episodes being inconsequential filler, since they serve as a way of showcasing the best sides of the characters so that it's possible to become invested in them. A ~13-episode show of just the bits that matter would certainly be better overall, though I’m more in favour of elevating the parts that are already really good to begin with, since Jupiter Jazz and Hard Luck Woman are among my favourite pieces of television. However, if I had to exclude some episodes, I'd probably go with Gateway Shuffle, Heavy Metal Queen, Wild Horses, Boogie Woogie Feng Shui and Cowboy Funk at an absolute maximum

For the second time round, I’m gonna miss this show. Over the past two months I’ve been going through a bunch of stuff that I’ve been curious about revisiting, and now I’ve finally reached the end. I’m surprised I never considered putting this on my favourites until now, as it was what pulled me away from laughing at the spectacle of le funny high school harem anime #4,537,826 and instead made me an actual fan of the medium. Rare story, I know.

I'm a newer anime fan who just finished watching this for the first time. It's also the first classic from the 90's that I watched.

Personally, I really didn't care for the anime as a whole. I could tell it's really good and I fully understand why people love it, but it just wasn't my thing for some reason that I can't put my finger on.

This ending though? *chef's kiss* Good shit.

Well, finally finish this for the first time. And it got 2 months to finish this lol

First I am surprised to myself that I never got a spoiler about how it ends, maybe i might read but didn't remember. So yeah it was a surprise. I am thinking about Jet now, the man is probably a little depressive alone, I dont think Faye will continue the hunting criminals thing with him. I was expecting more of a happy or just continue the hunting end because all the comedy and "group journey" the series delivery

I have mixing feelings about the series overall. And I agree that a lot of people love this for some nostalgic effect. Yes it has a lot of charm, the settings and atmosphere are the biggest selling point. But the characters conclusion felt rushed and empty. Half of the episodics are boring AF this was one of the reasons i got so long to finish this. Spike backstory is interesting, but to understand is pure assumptions with all the little details the series gives, Julia and Shin death give me 0 impact too.

Solid 8/10 because of the end, I will probably check the movie soon.
