I have seen Eren a lot recently. First the protagonist of Mononogatari and now pre-raid Einar.

Super strong first episode. Atmosphere is being handled perfectly and OST is doing excellent at elevating every single scene.
And the ED is simply fantastic, by the way.

Duh, Thorfinn became a slave, it was better for him to return to his hometown.

We also got to see the backstory of a character that will probably play an important role in the story.

The opening was wonderful and I suppose this season is going to focus on Thorfinn and Einar escaping from slavery to freedom.

Vinland Saga is back to save this mediocre season, can't wait for more.

The op is aight, first op is still my favorite and I don't think any op can top it.

An introduction episode and a phenomenal one, one of the best first episodes I've seen. The visuals, the music, the direction, the characters, the dialogues, the narration, the cinematography... everything is made to be as impactful as possible, such an insane feeling I had in just 20 minutes. Vinland Saga just never miss.

Quick question, is the farm that Einar ended up at the end of the episode, the same farm he used to live in? Or it's a different one?

If I understand correctly, it's a different farm in a totally different place far away from his home in Northen England. Although, it shares a resemblance to his farm back at home.

the adaptation of the manga is always perfect by Mappa
Ppl may have different opinion on this season because there would be less action
But believe me that this Season is going to be better than the first Season the story and plot would progress perfectly and u would see great character development of certain characters especially thorfinn ,he has got one of the best development out there

That’s how you start a second season. This anime deserves an Oscar, it’s more than a show, more than an anime, it’s art, masterpiece.

Absolute masterpiece of an episode. The animation is just as good, if not even better than season 1 and the direction was amazing. The OP and ED are literally perfect. I love how prominent the OST was in the episode.

Holy shit, the animation style, soundtrack, and even narration hit the mark for this season so far. The opening few minutes gave me some legit chills.

This episode details the harsh life for Einar, especially when the vikings took over. Just another reminder that anything can happen in their world in a split moment. A really impressive start imo. Felt like a mini movie and the soundtrack is amazing.

Do you know what language they use in the beginning.... it's really give me chills....Man what a start 🔥

It's great to have Vinland Saga back on our screens for a well deserved second season and it was well worth the wait! =)

It's also a reminder in how brutal daily life was way back then. Einar was very happy with his sister and mother living in Northern England, but as with many places during that century, their village was destroyed by the invading Danish army and as a result of their attempted escaped, his mother and sister died and he was taken away as a slave.

Einar tried to get away from it all, but his attempts failed and he had no choice but to resigned himself to his new life, as much as he hated the prospect of it. He was eventually bought by Ketil and was taken to his very large and nice looking farmland. Later on, Einar was introduced to a familiar face from the first season, Thorfinn, who was looking far worse for wear compared to how we saw him from before.

Despite a studio change from Wit to MAPPA, it does look like the main staff from the first season are still present, so the visuals and animation look the same, which is a good thing. Both OP and ED were somber and rather powerful, which I like.

Overall, this was a great start and I look forward to seeing if this second season can live up to the increasing hype of this arc in particular. I bet that it will, going by early impressions. =P

the first episode was really like a banger to me, I'm still processing this episode, .... the op was an absolute banger completely fitting to the plot of this season, I watched it with my brother and we both had goosebump while witnessing this masterpiece, also in this ep: the characters, art style, narration were perfect! ASA I saw Thorphinn, he reminded me of the first time I saw Eren in s4, their character development was sort of alike to me, it was like seeing two persons , who have suffered and experienced difficulties a lot and now they don't have anything to loose anymore, Thorphinn have become really calm and mature ... my poor sonT-T.....and now he's gonna searching for freedom.... and the ed both it's visual and music were really cool.. all of the music which are used in this anime are great ... great job staff, as an VS fan , I do appreciate your work <3

HOLY SHIT. The animation, soundtrack...everything was fantastic. Poor Einar had to see his family get killed before his eyes. Thorfinn looks like he has no motivation to live. Great and an interesting start to the new season.

What a great episode. It was worth waiting for it for more than three years. And I couldn't have been happier that it's back.

I couldn't hold my tears tho. I freakin love this manga and the fantastic anime adaptation :")

The first episode felt like a mini movie and the soundtrack / visuals were amazing. Can't wait till the next week.

Peakland Saga is back, with the most anticipated arc which is the Slave arc, also known as Farmland Saga. I have no idea what happens in the story and am going completely blind, but I do know that it's gonna be very philosophical. If it turns out to be as philosophical as the Vagabond Farming arc, this is truly gonna be peak seinen for sure. Einar's story was hard to watch, felt as we are rewatching Thorfinn's story, but a quicker version. Leif is still searching for Thorfinn, and Einar meets Thorfinn in the farm, and based on the name of the next episode, it seems that the name of the owner is Ketil. He looks like a nice guy (for now at least).

the backstory of Einar is never revealed in the manga right? so this is a nice filler or bonus
Wait what?! Bruh if this is true it's honestly nice context given to Einar's character. Just one episode and I already like Einar.

5/5 episode.
it was revealed he talks about his family dying we just never see it happen , that part was anime only content, everything from when he is on the ship with other slaves to meeting thorfinn was part of the first chapter of farmland arc, but seeing his family die made everything else hit harder for sure

The transition to MAPPA is flawless, this feels no different from WIT(except better production).

I really liked the episode. I wasn't expecting them to deliver such a wonderful episode. As someone who has not read the manga, I am excited to see how the story unwraps itself.
I have this feeling that it is going to be one of the best anime of 2023.
