Winter, mainly because I always felt that most episodes set in that season just focused on trivial winter gimmicks, such as snowy landscapes, everything being decorated for Christmas and all the celebration, a temple visit on New Year's Day, handing out chocolate for Valentine's Day if that gets taken into account and that's about it. And as it's been said earlier, it's the least featured season in anime. But mainly it's these (mostly) universal winter experiences that annoy me. Even though the integration of a season's atmosphere is something this thread focuses on, I personally would like the opposite. I'd like an anime set in winter without focusing on any of the usual gimmicks. Like sure, there would be snowy landscapes and maybe a holiday mentioned here and there, but I don't want the season and its connotations to be enmeshed into the story at all. Let the story flow without paying any special attention to the season, long story short. I can think of anime set in all the other three seasons, especially in spring and summer, that don't just focus on the cherry blossoms and the start of the school year or going to the beach and attending a summer festival. Those are included, but otherwise the story goes on and it doesn't have to correlate with the season's atmosphere at all. An anime series where the season is important to the story and the themes is nice every now and then, but usually I like it best when little attention is paid to the season.

Yo, speaking of snow, if you hadn't yet, read snow princess by clamp. Its one of their earliest works like R.G VEDA and its a pretty decent read that can be done in a day.

Definitely winter. I think it'd be cool to get not just slice of life shows set in winter, but also to get more serious shows set in winter.

Really, I'd just like to see a slice of life or CGDCT anime have more than half an episode dedicated to Christmas.

Type O Negative's frontman peter steele really liked the fall season fun fact.

And for a metal rec i think you may like it also has cuties in it Othello i know manga reading isn't exactly your cup of tea but still i think its plot may be up your alley.

Sorry for late reply, but I'm glad we agree about picking winter! But I'm surprised with not wanting the usual winter attributes to help shape the story, and I'm starting to disagree a bit here. While I agree that a story can work without paying so much attention to the time frame and setting, I just feel like attempting to do so can add a lot to enjoyment/appeal. I mentioned Kanon (2006) in my original post not just because I had recently seen it at the time I made it, but also because I really really like how it really makes you feel like Batman you're in a mysterious, chilly winter with the characters. The power of anime can do so much with the season and its attributes if done correctly, so I personally feel more open to the idea... though again, not saying I can't understand your point here.

That's fair. I mentioned briefly in my post that I enjoy anime where a season's entire atmosphere is integrated into the story every now and then, so I enjoy those sorts of series too. You're right that a lot can be done with the atmosphere! For example, the Shirahime-syo manga by Clamp that Crow recommended to me was a good example of that, it really has that immersive, folkloric and chilly vibe to it. But I was focusing here more on the anime that don't pay much attention to the season in their stories, which are a good amount, and in them winter is always a very brief season. Take any school anime, the few winter episodes it might have will focus on things like snow, Christmas and maybe Valentine's day. So seeing other titles that are set in the other three seasons and don't focus much on the setting makes me want more winter anime that do the same. I realise that my reply probably went in direct contrast to the whole point of the thread, ha ha, but that's what I personally wanted to see in an anime set in winter.
Oh, I guess in some sense we do kinda agree haha. I definitely gotta get to reading that CLAMP manga sometime! Thanks again for posting :D

speaking of clamp now, that cardcaptor sakura clear is ending, wonder if they'll finally go back to their older stuff thats been on halt for such a long long while and shirahime syo was such a good read its kind of a shame it had short run time as if it had some more polish to it then it would have been really phenomenal as some manga would have benefited a great deal if it had just a few more chapters left.
