Background

Shirahimeshou was digitally published in English as Shirahime-Syo by VIZ Media under the VIZ Select imprint on January 13, 2015. Before this, Tokyopop had the license, and published two editions with the included subtitle Snow Goddess Tales, first in hardback on December 1, 2003, and later in paperback on June 1, 2004. It has additionally been published in Spanish by Norma, in French by Glenat, in Italian by Star Comics, in German by Egmont Manga, and in Indonesian by PT Gramedia.

Shirahime, the goddess of snow, which is said to be her tears. Shirahime-Syo is a collection of short stories, connected by a motive of snow - tears of the goddess.

Story - 7. Every chapter contains another story, and each of them gives another feeling, so it's a bit hard to rate, but every story is very special. You can also see the inspirations from Japanese legends.

Art - 10. In fact, Shirahime-Syo is for me more of an artbook than actual manga. The art is stunning. All characters are beautifully, studiously drawn, backgrounds as well. There are even few coloured pages, which are also amazing.

In the middle of the sea of homo-erotic naked men with suspicious implications on the josei genre (I'm interested in LGBT romances, but really?), I can say with security that this is a pearl that stood up on its own by the fusions of perspectives in the world it shares.

With both a feminine dreamy magical and down to earth masculine harshness of the world's reality, we are presented with a very interesting concept of a goddess whose cries affect the weather of the mountains, and as mentioned before, the 3 stories it presents share both the sensitivity of female Gothicism and the masculine tragic perception ...
