| Wow. What an amazing anime. At first, I wasn't very happy with the ending but I think it fits very well. I kept asking "will Tenma actually kill Johan in the end?" when the real question is would Tenma save Johan again even after knowing what type of person he is? It fits in with Tenma's character very well. I love how there's that constant theme of the value of human lives, from the start between that Turkish man and the opera singer, to Johan's mum choosing between which twin to give away. Definitely a 10/10 anime for me, now to collect the manga :) |
| Well looks like I've reached the end of this truly amazing show. The final episode was a very great sum up of whole series and I'm glad that meeting the twins mother was left for the very last episode. Anna, Eva, Dieter and Lunge are gonna have great careers ahead of them. That scene where Tenma goes visit Johan surprised me a little specially when Johan woke up out of nowhere. Even if It was only Tenma's mind playing tricks on him it felt a little creepy. But of course for me Johan is best antagonist I've ever seen in any anime, there were many great and very great I've encountered in all shows I've watched but nothing quite like him. The ending of course had a little bit of criticism mostly of how after all that long hard work to spot him, Johan got away again. And this type of ending has been used as main argument why Monster finale was done badly. To anyone complaining about this shows finale or not understanding a thing or two in the story even after watching whole show, I suggest to watch a video on YouTube named ''Explaining The Ending of Monster'', its hard to miss once you search for it. That video is perfect explanation of everything that happened troughout 74 episodes and why the ending is truly great. I also heard that there is a Manga release which explains what happened after events of Monster and where Johan exactly went after that escape, but I don't know if its worth reading without reading main manga itself. Well for the final rating of this show, I'd been thinking if this is really worth giving a 10 to and decided to give it that much because it just feels such an unique and well crafted story with amazing and very great put cast of characters. There just isn't anything like this I've seen in all anime and probably will never see. |
| What a masterpiece ending. Tenma's talk with Johann was chilling, and the unanswered question was understandably haunting him. Was he unwanted? Did his mother make a mistake? And more importantly, her choice solidified in his mind that all lives are not equal; her choice showed that she valued one of her children more than the other. I think Johan felt betrayed and harbored guilt because of what happened to his sister, cause he was the one who was saved and was dressed like her. So he took on her memories and made them his own to 'redeem' himself, perhaps, subconsciously.But on the other hand, it could also prove that the memories were so traumatic for a child that absorbing them to such an extent was expected for such a young child. It didn't help that their mother gave them no names, and they had to dress similarly; this hindered their individuality, Johan regarded himself as one with his sister and her memories were his etc. All in all, I love how this one talk in the last episode put together so much info about Johan we already knew and made his personality and his actions 'reasonable' to the viewers. As expected, the Monster in this story is not Johan alone. The monster was created by many people and incidents. I really believe that in the end, Johan realized that lives are equal because Tenma chose to save him twice. So he rejected his previous mindset and will start over. But that's up to the viewer's interpretation. I like open endings precisely for this reason. |
| Can't really get chills to this fsr. I don't think that this is my favorite anime of all time, but I really loved the journey to get here, as the destination was quite unfufilling. |

| I wanted to watch this anime so many many years ago. Good thing that I did not, because watching this with someone (gf) is really fun when you guys are talking about each theory. Salute to the staffs and author of this masterpiece anime 10/10 for me. The animation isn't really bad even though it is an old anime (classic). I am into to this kind of anime seriously, compare to current animes now. |
| Great ending for a great series. You have unlocked three different endings: Good ending: Johan survives and escapes, and start to have normal life. Possibly searching for Nina and .co as well as her mother. Normal/bittersweet ending: Johan dies and the last scene was all Tenma's hallucination (no patient in that room), guilt over his failure to save Johan. Bad ending: Johan survives and escapes, commit another murder again. |

| I have to give my thoughts on this anime because it is possible the greatest anime I have ever seen. To be indulged with the story from the absolute beginning is something I haven't been able to say about anything, other than One Piece. The ending was superb, and so many things were left unsaid and unspoken. Grimmer was an immense character and I felt so bad for the guy. He lived a terrible childhood and still could smile. I wish he had got the happy ending he deserved. But once again, Grimmer's death was the glimpse of reality in this whole story. Not everyone gets a happy ending. On the whole, this story was a fascinating watch. The setting for the final 5/6 episodes was bone-chilling. A town up in the German mountains, pouring rain, faint gunshots in the distance every now and again. It's the perfect setting for a horror movie. I loved this anime from start to finish & I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good psychological anime. 10/10. |

| What a great series, I was holding off on finishing it because I didn’t want it to be over. This is absolutely something I’ll rewatch again. Hopefully when it gets to HD one day... I enjoyed the ending. It left a lot to think about which I like. I’ve been combing through YouTube videos and online articles/forums to get into the analysis of everything lol. This show was one giant jigsaw puzzle and it’s hard to put it all together since information and memories are discovered mostly non-chronologically. |

| No matter how many times I rewatch monster I still can’t get over the end. The ending was confusing he either died. Or he either ran away and continued to be monster or maybe johan got a chance to start over. |
| Wow... what an ending. Did that interaction between Johan and Tenma really happen? I'm betting on yes. Johan seemed to have woken up in time to escape the hospital right after Also I'm glad to see Heckel again. I feel like I was the only one wondering what happened to him |

| Wow monster is incredible. To think I thought I wasn’t gonna enjoy monster in the first place but it was amazing. The character development was insane as I came to love some characters I hated in the beginning. Great ending and feel satisfied even though idk there names. 8/10 as I did feel bored for some episodes |

| finally....what a ride it has been! I'd like to thank the author for his sheer brilliance behind this masterpiece. also..probably these are the most common questions but- 1. what is Johan's birth name? 2. did he kill himself in the end? or did he just disappear as a metaphor for the monster being killed? i loved the final episode but I could get closure if I at least got to know his real name... also it was brilliant that the mother was also indirectly involved in this chain of events. In brief, this was one hell of a ride! |

| Damn.. did I really finish all of monster in less than a week? I should probably go outside and actually get a life now ._. On topic, The final episode was a 10/10. It was sad seeing all these characters one last time and I like how the episode was happy for the most part. The whole tenma and johan scene at the end was done brilliantly. It was kind of a jumpscare how johan woke up like that but thankfully it was a dream lol (I'm pretty sure that was what they were trying to show) I'm a fan of the open ending style and it's interesting thinking of what happened to johan. Fantastic conclusion overall and this may be one of or my #1 episode in the series and considering it's the last, I'm happy it ended off super strong. I always appreciate when it leaves off on a positive note. Not just this one series but every anime. Monster was amazing and as much as I wanna give it a 9 or 10, there were some episodes mainly during the first half or start of the second half which were a little slow and boring to me. Important to the story and all but they just weren't ones that I can say I loved. But the positive parts of the story as well as the writing really sets monster as nothing short of being a super good series. I'm still thinking about it while I'm typing but I'll either settle on a 8 or 9 as my final score depending on how well this series ages for me and how much I can get past the slow parts here and there. But no matter what I give it, It's a series that I definitely had a positive experience with regardless and I'm happy that I can now say I've watched this. |

| Probably the strangest yet most satisfying experience I’ve had with any form of media thus far (just seeing Johan alone makes me feel like I’m looking at something plain wrong to human eyes). This was the third time I tried watching Monster in full and I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything hands down. I’m glad I was able to take the time this summer to digest everything that happened in this mindscrew of an anime. My favorite moments were the short detours Tenma took along the way to find Johan, the best examples being his interactions with Grimmer and all the old couples and immigrants. The balance between that and the deeply nihilistic, existential themes the series tackled was handled to a tee. Likewise, characters like Grimmer, Eva, and Lunge are also among my favorites simply because of how nuanced and grounded they come off across (I see Tenma and Johan more as ideas rather than people lol). There’s way too much to go off just from the top of my head, but the conclusion to everything was beyond fulfilling. If this masterpiece is Monster, I can’t imagine what the rest of Naoki Urasawa’s works are like, the best thing I’ve watched all year :) 10/10 |

All it shows is the opened windows which have been even since Tenma first walked into the room so it's not like Johan himself opened it afterwards. 3. About the cuff yeah i'd say that's a plot hole but rather a minor one. If you noticed Johan actually has been in a coma for quite a long time. When Tenma operated on him he was shaved bald but is shown haired as usual in the last scene. 4. The empty bed on the other hand (i'm not saying it IS) could be symbolical that the "Monster" inside Johan turned human again after being saved by Tenma for the second time despite him challenging the latter to end his life which also contradicts Tenma's belief that all lives are equal, a belief contra to Johan's "the only thing humans are equal in is death". In the end Tenma stayed true to that belief. Simply put: The Monster Johan's evil belief is defeated by the human Tenma's good belief. In other words the ending is just trying to fool you (and it did) into thinking that was THE case. Sorry for the long explanation. |

| johan survived and escaped yay finally finished this shitshow, the schubert and ruhenhaim (before johan showed up) was good though, 4/10 |
| everyone at least live happily at the end, which is great so Johan probably escapes or is transferred to prison's hospital or taken out for a walk by Tenma or being a 'monster' once again or go meet his mother. it could be anything lol its also good that Tenma did not shoot Johan or it could have been worse for him very amazing series |

| Truly a masterpiece, there were some flaws like plot convenient moments and some filler-like stuff, but overall an incredibly well-paced, captivating and intriguing story on Tenma's hunt on the nameless monster called Johan. With that terrifying last revelation on the mother, I realise there were a lot of people who had somewhat of a monster inside of them just like Johan. |

| Confusing ending, but I liked it. At first glance it seemed that their mother was "the real Monster", because she "betrayed" her love by choosing one of the children, but even she did have her own reasoning... So, in the end, probably, no one was truly a Monster. 9/10 |
