Like many have said, take a break. I’ve been watching Drive to Survive on Netflix and it’s been great, although much of the stuff they setup for next season is weird because of COVID-19 and driver transfers.
Gaming has been great too, Red Dead Redemption 2 took up a lot of my time this quarantine lol

Take a break and distance yourself. If you feel the urge, you will return. If you don't, it just means you found something better.

Then don't watch anime, trust me, forcing yourself to watch a medium you'll get bored at is not fun. I would have loved to explain my journey through anime but I don't have the time right now.

In short, read manga and light novels instead. Or even play visual novels, if they don't pique your interest as well, then honestly just take a break for a week or 2, even a month. As long as you constantly visit back this site it's okay.

The same thing happened to me; I took a year without watching anime (in 2018) and from there I returned as the Phoenix Bird. I would recommend that you take a break.
It is not so bad ... although you will have arrears lol

Why is a majority of anime discussion on this board mostly "I'm afraid I'll lose my 'crediblity' if I take a break from watching meaningless media" or "How much anime do I need to watch before I'm a hardcore WeEb"? I started watching anime back in 2012, took a long break, and came back in early 2018.

Go ahead, reply. I'm not going to read it.

I think just force you to watch the anime even though it's boring.

Take a break ! It happened to me too. I really don't watch as much anime as I used to though. I used to be able to watch a 12 episode anime everyday but now I only watch one or two anime maximum every month... Also, people grow out of things so it's also fine if you never come back to anime

Was reading through all the replies that others have given.. not sure you will read this or not, but, u see... Like they say "take a break and get back"... It's not so easy :p ... I mean I myself have taken breaks before and returned twice as strong :P ... But correct me if I am wrong, but it's most probably yourself that u r bored with and it's not anime's fault at all :p... Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to offend u in any way whatsoever... So listen, I ll tell u what happened with me...

I was ... Very "not-confident" about my body, I always felt that people viewed me as a chubby, loner introvert... And whenever I used to see anime rom-coms and such, I used to feel very down and depressed... But I came across an anime that inspired me... I know this sounds ridiculous.. but at this point, I have forgotten which anime it was... But hear me out... Whenever the moment where the protagonist thinks "if only I was stronger" those moments really hit me.. I realised that this is real life, and power ups and magical blessings don't happen here.. maybe miracles do.. but if I had to do something about my depressed self, I gotta do it myself, so I started going to the gym.. and started giving time for improving myself.. improving how I look, improving my social skills.. but I never actually stopped watching anime, as time was very less, I couldn't watch it.. it wasn't that I wouldn't, I COULDN'T... and after almost 8 or 10 months... I was back.. my life got better, I started being happy... and glad to say... I m back on track with anime xD and I m never gonna stop watching em again... Even If I have to live with an episode a day, I ll not stop.. I ll never stop xD

Hope u found this helpful... Sorry it became so long :p

Try some hentai. I highly recommend Taimanin Asagi. It's one of the most intense and hottest shows I've ever seen.

Well according to your list you haven't watched a lot of anime I recommend trying different genres of anime when I get burnt out it is usually because I have watched a lot of the same genre after each other. Mix it up watch action then a romance or slice of life then a comedy or a psychological anime. If that doesn't work than take a break from anime I have taken breaks in the past and I always return.

I take a break on anime now because of games lol I didn't expect to do that because I'm not a huge fan of games but cute game makes me think twice.. I'm into it that it's hard for me to watch anime again.

Something I noticed: many posts are saying you haven't seen much according to your profile. I wouldn't lend much credence to that as a metric, and, even if it is completely true, it really doesn't matter.
Anyway, here are my thoughts.
1) There's no reason to be "afraid" of leaving anime behind. I encourage you to remember that it's still television/film, an entertainment medium that wants to eat up your time and money :D. There is no guilt to be had in moving on.
2) Perhaps you're approaching that same saturation point that I did not too long ago, where you watch anime for however long until you get fed up with the absurd level of idiocy displayed by the people who get these predominantly mediocre shows made and start yearning for something that will actually make you feel whole. There are some anime like that, i.e. shows/films that make you think extensively about a concept and encourage you to reevaluate yourself and your surroundings accordingly, but I don't think it would be right of me to suggest any particular anime here; we all have our own tastes and even tend to interpret works differently, which is part of what makes discussion such an awesome thing to behold. And it's okay to say, "Even though its message is great, I don't find this entertaining. This doesn't appeal to me."

My advice is this: find what works for you, be it an animation, live-action series, puppet show, novel, comic, whatever. If you are extremely selective about what you consume and try to drop shows that don't do it for you as soon as possible, then you'll find you won't be bored with what you're watching or reading. If you are, then consider rethinking why you are watching something (or why it's on your Plan to Watch list, if applicable).

Most importantly, do not -- EVER -- settle for less. Your time is too valuable for you to be wasting it on garbage you don't enjoy.

I hope this helps. Happy watching!

nothing. take a break and come back if you want. No need to be afraid, because if you get your interest back you can always come back. Ok I kind of get it, I stopped watching anime regularly in 2016. Since then I have been watching on and off. I’d usually watch 2-3 shows during summer break and winter break and nothing at other times. (although I have been watching more now, since quarantine and all) Sure, at that pace I will never complete my PTW list, but idk it doesnt bother me anymore, because why should I watch mote anime than I enjoy?

Try some genres other than shounen without having any expectations of them, that way you can get a taste for new stuff without being too disappointed in them. I'm assuming the source of your burnout is from watching basically one type of thing, at least that is what used to cause my burnout.

I would try a slice of life or iyashikei, like slime tensei or yuru camp. Or maybe some seinen, like psycho-pass or parasyte.

You are in the burnout phase. I would suggest you stop watching for a while and wait until the desire to watch anime comes back again or you can just start reading manga. That works for me at least.

Do leave. If you are perusing Japanese animation as means to "entertain" oneself, and get "bored" a a result, you had nothing to gain in the first place. No lose will deducted. On neither side.

I try not to cry when I look at your answers, thank you all! I want to mention something, I'll take a break but I have no time to spend outside of gaming, I would start the manga but I do not know what to do I say ... the anime influenced me to dye my hair white and make my eyes black. It's hard for me to take breaks because I'm obsessed, I can't go to bed every night because I didn't look to no episode of the anime.
