I have to say I'm in the same boat. I've been enjoying thinking a lot about how because of their unique experiences, these kids all act a LOT older than the 10 to 12 they'd be, but the show itself tends to be a bit dull. Additionally, I think the art/animation of the original show was a little more dynamic, whereas this animation feels a little bit more flat in its expressive quality.

I do think the new cards are unique, though. I find the fact they're clear genuinely intriguing and I'd love to know who's behind the mask...

...I think what this show could really benefit from if it's gonna have this slower pace is a few more moments where the characters themselves are bothered by the mystery. Any scenes we get where the characters linger on the problems of their situation are very, very short.

I really hope it picks up steam as it continues. I want to love this continuation, too.

I couldn't agree more.

I 100% agree with you I have found this anime so hard to watch. I really enjoyed Card captor Sakura, but this is so much more boring, the capture of the cards just happens so quickly and effortlessly. I hate how it is so heavy focused on SOL a lot more than the 1st season when I thought the 1st season built drama, relationships and we seen Sakura go through so much. Now I find Sakura very dull. I really hope we get to some sort of drama with the butler, Akiho and Sakura in the next few episodes.

I couldn't agree more.

But am I the only one who's frustrated by that childish "oweeeeh" Sakura makes like 42 times an episode ? She's in middle school but has the reactions of a baby and it's irritating.

"Hoeeee!" has always been Sakura's signature reaction, however I've been noticing that it was a little overused in this anime, specially when the walking trees appeared at the school, she did it 3 times in a row after overthinking in the middle of the class.

I know that and I have nothing against the reaction itself (though I think it sounds more childish than before and that's weird), I always found it funny or "cute" cometimes, but in this season it's just too much. As you said when she did it 3 times in the classroom or when they're supposed to be silent because there's a card or someone nearby but she goes all "oweeeeeeh" at 234 decibels, wow, calm down. It wasn't like that before and even so, she was younger.

I'm not really disappointed at all, but my expectations weren't super high to begin with. My two biggest issues are sakura's seeming lack of concern over the sakura cards and syaoran not getting as much screen-time as I would've hoped. The filler is something I would have expected from ccs. I think the school slice of life is more entertaining in general than in the old series. I also like the pacing better in that they don't just repetitively tease the same reveals over and over so much. Instead what they've been doing a lot is tacking on a scene at the beginning or end that advances the mystery or whatever.

Overall I am really enjoying seeing how the characters developed going from elementary to middle school through their interactions and such

Sakura has always been overrated here on MAL because most people gave it a high score because they remember they loved it as a kid. I rewatched the show last year because of this new season and I found myself laughing at many of the stories and character interactions: it is a solid 5/10 for me.

Now due to this high as f- score people think they are supposed to treat this as a masterpiece. No. The characters are as simple as they can be, this was originally a kids' show: the show that appealed to us, KIDS of that time, a lot. This is most likely simply a nostalgia-bomb, it never was intended to be something very good storytelling or characterization-wise.

Sad to say that I agree. I tried rewatching the old CCS before this new one aired, and I couldn't stomach much of either anymore. Nostalgia can only go so far - the show is slow-paced and development happens slowly. It just kept following the same formula.

I think kid me would've loved this and would still love the old CCS, but current me is bored. I want faster development nowadays. Maybe I've become impatient or my tastes have changed, but it is a little sad, as I recall this fondly as a child.

This is definitely the case of where the audience grew up but the show didn't. If this season was made 15 years ago, it would be far easier to digest.

I think the show's main problem is how slow it is. I love that each episode has a "reveal", building up the mystery around the season's plot, but we end up watching a full 20 minute episode for a 2 minute plot-reveal. I genuinely enjoy seeing how much Sakura has grown, and how Syaoran is developing, and the incidental connections between the old series and possible ties to the Tsubasa Chronicle universe.

The show seems to dumb itself down a lot as a way to reach its target audience (not us), and it kind of suffers for it.

The visual for both anime and manga is still amazing, tho. Expected from CLAMP. Especially when the giant beasts showed up in episodes 17 and 18 and some cool shits happened far up high in the night skies. That was just amazing. It gave me that vibe I miss the most, the vibe of X-1999. And the idea that Sakura's own power is shown through the transparent design of the cards should be appreciated. However, I kinda miss that old drawing style CLAMP used in the original CCS. I had some X, CCS, Clamp School and Tsubasa books at home and I think I'm still stuck in the 90s. I miss the char' broad shoulders (males) and sharp edges (females). The new style is nothing but another top-notch, tho.

But most importantly, I cannot disagree with most points in the discussion here. Seems like in this CCS: Clear Card, Sakura's power is getting uncontrollably strong but the strong points in Sakura's character that had made her arrive at this point are missing in the new show instead. In the old show, Sakura's character is very colorful: she gets pissed, confused, then laughs in embarassment, she has the brightest smile but sometimes her lips downturned when she found a difficult puzzle she needed to solve, but with her strong determination, her smile would return and she'd say: "Everything is gonna be alright!" and this would make Tomoyo's ultimate happiness. And those what will make her the strongest witch/magician of them all. But, in the new show she's like... all clueless and everybody must do everything for her. I just miss the emotionally colorful, genious-in-a-way and strong Sakura.

And I hope CLAMP won't go too far in the time-space twist. But, they are still the best mangaka, nonetheless!

I am still not used to the modern style art of CardCaptor Sakura. Another thing I am losing patience is Sakura and Syaoran's relationship. I don't know why they are still so wishy-washy with each other.

My enjoyment of anime is becoming stale with the passing of time. The last few seasons have been utterly disappointing for action animes with a good story telling. Either they deviate from their manga versions here and there or totally end up making up the events, backfiring and leading to it's demise due to low ratings.

I used to watch 6-8 shows every season and as of now, I'm only watching 2:

  • JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze
  • Fairy Tail: Final Series

Just for the sake of good and consistent classics.

While I do like this new series, it feels rushed. I am actually glad that I waited for it to be complete before I started watching it. I am only on episode 6 right now, but I am glad to see more to this awesome series. This is the show I started watching anime on. While the series in a whole does not have much of a re-watch value, I have done so when I heard that this was coming out. I do hope that this rushed feeling is not through the entire series. Yes, I understand that she has "Grown", but they seem to conflict on that aspect as well, she seems to know exactly what to do, and other times she questions if she should then it ends up being the right answer...

She can now "Secure" the new cards without even having to battle them or secure them... Just a little confusing is all.

I liked the first series since it was a little more unpredictable. So far this series has been really predictable.

Im not that dissapointed, if you follow the first CCS it's waaaay slower with some fillers even sometimes i skip a few episodes and only watch which episodes that actually interesting. In the past, i really love it, it even in my top 10 forever animelist.

but nowadays this type of genre makes me super bored and certainly not my cup of tea, i watch this because of the name "Cardcaptor Sakura and Sakura/Syaoran" like someone said above my enjoyment in anime also as well become stale, im realy strict in anime genre nowadays, classic school-life shoujo genre is pissing me off now and the anime that everyone thought interesting this season (The Promised Neverland) for me is just another Maze Runner.

It's not this series fault, it's just me, i think it's sweet and enjoyable overall.

when i saw that this was even gonna be a thing it made me more annoyed than happy for this which is why i just stopped with the series as a whole

i loved the original but like i said i just feel it didn't need anything more after as it was good where it ended

I wouldn't say disappointed. If anything, I'm only disappointed that they ended it here, without revealing much about the main storyline. The only thing revealed about the main storyline is that the cards turned clear and useless and that there's a guy out there who wants to Sakura's power. All the how's and why's are left untold. That said, I feel like this is more of a teaser of what's to come. So if they decide to stop this series here, then and only then will I completely disappointed.

Yeah, I had to admit this sequel is quite boring and no longer catches the spirit of the original Cardcaptor Sakura.

I think this new season could have been summarized as a movie or a series with fewer episodes, most of the episodes do not provide anything new.
