Sub or Dub

I'm pondering whether to watch this series in English or Japanese. I hear the dub is really good, but i watched the movies in Japanese since they didn't use the same English VAs for both films. (Like when Mary Elisabeth McGlynn took over for Mimi Woods)

Same thing happens with SAC: The compilation films (Laughing Man and Individual 11) are strangely dubbed by different people than the show, which would probably be distracting. Though i could techincally just skip those.

The good thing about the Japanese version is that the VAs stay the same throughout, but it is pretty difficult to keep up with all the technobabble when you have to read subs.

What's your opinion?

I have had no problems with the dub of SAC (which is a rarity for me) so I would go with that.
Baato's voice actor was incredible imo.

Though I personally like the Japanese version a little more, both versions are extremely strong and you don't really lose out in any way. I think I'd recommend going English the first time and then Japanese if you watch it again, or vice versa. Like I said, you don't lose out either way.

Since i watched the films in Japanese, i think it's appropriate to watch SAC (the alternate version) in English - Just to set it apart a bit more, plus i love all the dub actors involved :D

Thanks for the input!

Subs dude. When they say that dub is good for this they mean is not as shit as the usual dubs nothing more. When compared to the Japanese audio is still bad and the Major voice is so more fitting in the Japanese version.

The guy asking the question has english dub actors on his favourites, it's not really at all helpful for you, someone who obviously hates all English dubs to advise him on this.

I watched SAC subbed first, dubbed the second time, I ended up preferring watching it dubbed.

And I wouldn't worry about the dub cast changing for the compilation movies since the movies themselves are entirely superfluous.

I'm loving the dub for SAC, much more than the film's!
So in my opinion it goes like this:
TV series = Dub
Film series = Sub

GitS for me is ALWAYS DUB. I've watched all of it. Favorite series and I've never been disappointed by the English voice actors.

My biggest gripe was during the Arise OVAs and the 2015 movie when they made a weird directorial choice by having Elizabeth Maxwell take over the voice work for Major Motoko Kusanagi while Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, who was the major for all of the Stand Alone Complex series and movie, voiced another character (Kurutsu) who had tons of scenes with the major and they didn't disguise her voice at all. It was as if the major was talking to herself in my mind. It was odd and I wanted the Kusanagi we spent the most time with, the one we know and love, to have her voice back!

Looking back though, the tone of the Major was so different in the newer reboot/prequel that it kind of made sense to separate what was known with what is now new. Besides, they both did great voice work so it was a small gripe.
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

I always thought GITS had good dub (excluding the 1995 movie and Innocence). Personally, I find it hard to keep up with the action scenes and read the subtitles at the same time.

Saw first ep of ozc (dual audio), switching between both en they both seem good to me, although I've watched 95% of my anime subbed.

However for shows like this, I might go dub because I'm able to concentrate a lot better.

This. The rest of the VA's are also very fitting and add a lot to the characters. Going Dub also helps focussing on the action that is really well animated in this series.

sub is always better.

Try to respect author's integrity about their work. original voice + sub is the most accurate way of feeling what the author intended.

Surprised at the poll results. I haven't heard anything about the dub so I'm gonna go with subs.

At the same time, don't knock the dub just because it's secondary. Heck dubs help reach out to more people than the subs can alone (especially if said dub is close to the original source like GitS)

Honestly I brought Stand Alone Complex today and started watching it in dub because that’s what I normally do, but I don’t know I just felt convinced to switch to Sub after the voice acting for Makoto/Major just felt off to me. The sub just gelled with me better and I just am currently enjoying it. I might watch dub just to see if my initial impression was wrong, but the Japanese audio just feels so smooth and stuff. But most importantly the anime is good on its on dub or sub, because of buttery smooth animation and really masterful storytelling.

Lol I just imagine that one guy in the back saying “hey guys my opinion is also good just say... they’re not even listening are they?” Well if you don’t mind me asking, but what exactly about the Spanish dub do you like? Is it because you speak Spanish or for nostalgia sake... or something else?

I watched the first episode both in Japanese and in English before deciding since my friend hyped the dub for me. I decided Japanese. Do with that what you will.

The original films i watched it through Subs. Then Stand Alone Complex Dubbed. I’m pretty much a sucker when it comes to watching dubs when it has wordbuillding. It’s better for me to remember the specific key facts about the world and the setting when i’m listening to things.
