My bet is that it's a co-production between MAPPA and M2 though, due to M2 not being able to fund Pluto fully and needing the name and staff of MAPPA for sales due to them becoming well-know thanks to Yuri on Ice!!! as well as their animators and funding (even though he was president of MAPPA, he's still involved with them).

Again the link you posted is clearly referring to what Maruyama said during an interview in 2014 before he founded M2, so even if he was at the event doesn't mean what he said isn't based on that old interview. moreover, while Mappa involvement in this project is likely, Maryama said that he founded M2 for the sole purpose of producing shows that he wanted to produce so badly before he dies, and that include Pluto and possibly the late Satoshi Kon's unfinished movie "Dreaming Machine"

I knew it would be M2, Maruyama left MAPPA a while ago and he's been fighting for a Pluto anime for years. Now whether or not M2 doing this is a good thing I don't know yet. Onihei didn't really look that good at all...But this is going to air in 2020. So they better make it look good by then. Still don't know why they'd announce it now, it'll make the wait even worse because I know it's actually happening. Ignorance really is bliss.
