| The Hateful Eight. Was enjoyable. It was a bit too long. Most important thing to note about is definitely Samuel L. Jackson performance, it was one of the best I've seen from him, didn't know he still had it on him. Kurt Russel and Jennifer leigh were very good as well. The plot twist was kinda weak imo. It seem too obvious. The only bad thing about the movie was definitely the narration. What was that. Not only was it out of place and unnecessary but the voice itself was very bland (it was Tarantino himself apparently). I also don't get why bother with ''chapter x'' this works with a movie like Kill Bill where it's very campy, it doesn't work here because the movie took itself seriously for most of it. In general I don't like Tarantino's attempts to being cheesy on purpose, I guess it's signature style but I'm not fan of stuff like this. 7.5/10 Since I was already in a Tarantino movie mood. Watched Death Proof. Now I get why even among his fans this is spoken highly off. It was really empty. And full of meaningless Tarantino dialogue the sassy chicks version. The first action scene took me by surprise. But the second act of the movie was pretty dumb. 5/10 |

That's what I was hoping for out of Part 2 as well, but it's mostly just a reiteration of his strict reign as the new Godfather, even the ending feels like a repeat of the first one's ending without the cool images of them kissing Pacino's hand and all that. |

| Just saw The Witch and I fucking loved it. Gorgeous cinematography and excellent use of imagery combined with a brilliant soundtrack. lawlmartz said: Fresh: 7/10 Ghetto, grimy, gritty- basically does everything that City of God tried to do, but better. Don't expect a whole lot of Samuel L Jackson though. | Creed: 5/10 A very disappointing movie for me, it's just a rehash of Rocky II and didn't have the heart of the original. But I have to say Stallone best performance since a while. To be honest I don't really like Part II that much but it is an incredible movie on its own. It's a character study of Vito and Michael Corleone, how the former made it to the mafia's world and the latter to live in that world and destroyed by his own decision. Part II deserved its status because it is nearly flawless and the ending is very suitable. Watch it man, it is worth it even if you don't like in the end. |

The movie depicts the rise of the gang wars in the favela City Of God, it's pretty straighforward. The main character severs a neutral observer that watches the action develops. The movie is also pretty well shot the document style and that great opening shot and there's also the social commentary. As I said, it did well what it was supposed to do, it's okay to dislike the movie, but regarding its subject matter the movie knows what it is talking about. |

Kings of Summer The Way Way Back Juno The Spectacular Now Boyhood kings of summer was really funny. bit twee for me but i laughed a lot watching it. anyways, for me was breakfast at tiffany's. interestingly shot but like, entirely unfunny - i didn't realize it was a comedy until i checked the description afterwards. i like the archetypes (laidback but sarcastic generally decent writer type, beautiful but frivolous waifish mpdg) and audrey hepburn's presence is nice but the symbolism is too overtly trite, plot is blah. the "she's a country girl who seems frivolous but at heart has something in her past she's working for" stuff is irritating too. these aren't necessarily my main complaints - hepburn's character is very weak, the comedy isn't funny, the romance is unbelievable - but i tend to hone in on specific aspects of movies i find unappealing and in that regards i found it hit most of my bases |

| Saw the fountain couple days ago. easy 5-6/10, some interesting visual language but like... the parallels between the stories didn't work out given the vast difference in stakes, the bizarre set of combinations between various styles of religious belief is jarring, the character development is uh... laughable and especially the fucking space monk in space bubble sections were comical. shit was like spirituality without any spirit you know? on other hand, saw the big red one as well - 7/10? i don't really like war movies and have nothing much to say either way. well directed and shot but doesn't go beyond that. |

| I saw a few good films recently: Run Lola Run, The Big City, Yojimbo. I also saw Alien, and it was pretty disappointing. It's nicely shot and has good lighting, and there's some cool sci-fi stuff e.g. acid blood. Also the design of Alien itself is pretty awesome. But the story is nothing special; it's not very interesting or scary, quite boring even. |

| The Exorcist 7.25/10 Can definitely see how this held the title of scariest movie at the time it came out. Religious based horror was a largely unexplored avenue in film, and MUCH imitated in today's world. Seems like there's been 50 possession movies a year since then. Definitely formative in the horror genre, and influential, if not really a great movie. |

| ikiru by kurosawa. follows up on his other work with nonconventional narrative structures. inspiring but stands out from other movies with inspirational narratives because of the sombre tone. the last act where the protagonist's coworkers try to piece together his psychological motivations by sharing small pieces of information to form a larger cohesive whole reminded me of 12 angry men or other dialogue-based courtroom dramas and somehow feels redemptive even within the darker whole |

| the revenant 8/10 solid piece of filmaking but still me here got little bit motion sickness jaded like watching tree of life or other lubezki's work(but with more thrilling story and good sequence). make me shout plead for "change the angle please" somehow. not said the shot was ugly, it was gorgeous as hell, but yeah it's just my problem with the movie. maybe i need watch it on theater or put it on high enough with a big screen for full enjoyment instead of stared at laptop from the high angle. i mean low and wide angle lenses+bunch of continuous shots+close up+2 hours of it glass: there was no deal, u killed my boy. fitzgerald: or may be you should raised a man... instead of some girlie little bitch. *burn star war ep VII 8.5/10 lt's just another deathstar, but it's big. |

| Taxi Driver Brilliant film; I really liked the cinematography in particular. I have some faults with the bit before the ending though Biggest fault first: he murders a bunch of guys and doesn't get arrested, but is instead hailed as a hero. Sure he saves Iris, and the guys were criminals... but it ain't exactly legal to murder people. Secondly, getting shot in the neck and surviving is probably pretty unlikely, so it ruined suspense of disbelief a bit or me, as did the next point: Travis is a Vietnam War veteran, you'd think he knows to shoot in the head. Regardless it's a pretty cool sequence. |

| unbreakable. twist is fun if slightly predictable (because you're waiting for it the entire time) very bruce willisy macho man drama with family elements and these feel underdeveloped to an extent lots of ideas but nothing really interesting to say about them. comics as america's modern form of mythology does not ring true to me and as a statement seems laughable so not a fan of general premise or method of exploration. still 6/10 |

| Piranha (2010) Welp, the debauchery can't get any lower than this: sex, drugs, and gore. It's the orgy season and the piranhas are out for blood. Really brings a whole new meaning to the word, "orgy". Why did I watch this? Because it's simple to talk about. Being a simple man, I like simple. No need to think too hard about potential philosophical themes lying underneath some strange, abstract symbols. But even with that kind of relaxation considered, this is the kind of stuff that reduces your brain-cells, or as Jim Downey so eloquently put it in Billy Madison, "What you've just produced is one of the most insanely idiotic movies I have ever seen. At no point in your rambling, incoherent script were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational story. Everyone in this theater is now dumber for having watched it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul." 0/5 I'm mostly joking about the score, of course. Mostly. But I felt a 2½ stars rating (out of 5) is too boring, and the quote needed me to award no points, so... ;D But seriously, jokes aside. The film knows its audience and just ramps up the nasties, be it the sleaze or the creative gore. I can't grant it with a clear conscience a rating above 2½ though, because even if a pig is aware that it's a pig, it's still a sleazy, chauvinistic pig. ★★½ I might give the sequel a higher rating just for ramping up the gore and campiness up to eleven though. This first movie feels far more tame than the sequel, which stars David Hasselhoff as an indifferent lifeguard. Hah! |

| Clown (2014) This movie has the accomplishment of killing children in a horror movie, something even the most gruesome horror films try to avoid. I'm not quite sure that's an accomplishment worth commending, especially when half of the victims aren't even the sinful kind of kids you would find in a Friday the 13th movie. But hey, it's film produced by Eli Roth (director of both Hostel movies and The Green Inferno), so really, what did you expect? There's a Uwe Boll kind of horrible, and then there's this kind of messed up crap. But maybe I'm missing the point of the film. I mean, there's a film here trying to imitate Cronenberg's horrific transformation from The Fly (Eli Roth said this himself), and for the first-half of it, I could somewhat appreciate what it's trying to pull off. On paper, a man's descent into a hellish version of himself might sound like a cool idea, but with such amateur execution, it unfortunately becomes forgettable. Andy Powers lacks the emotional nuance of Jeff Goldblum that once viciously reined the audience into Seth Brundle's human, relatable persona, so Andy's performance instead left the impression of an average bum who's had a bad day. The man-turning-into-clown aspect of the story is kinda unique, I guess, in a cheesy, campy way. I certainly can't say I've heard of that one before. But then the second-half of the movie came along and it falls into familiar horror movie territory, and the novelty wears off from there. The creature make-up is decent, but like many monster movies, either the camera moves so fast that it becomes a blur or the low lighting would obscure everything, and whatever effort put into the creature design is rather wasted because it's hard to get a good look. I actually had to Google the creature to see what he really looks like. That's not something you want for your creature feature. ★★½ |
