well, this was,,, totally anticipated. nothing's new here.
hachi isn't a killler, check.
tanabe isn't dead, check.
hachi going back to tanabe with his tail behind his legs, check.
i get what they tried to do here, but it just used planetes's potential in the wrong way.
SO the guy was on a some sort of highway cause he was going fast.
Then a half paralyzed woman that walked ALONE at NIGHT near a high speed road in a wheelchair saw a guy drowning.
And it was ofc her love interest that was almost drowning there.
The coincidence is way too big.
Hoshino suffers from PTSD after failing to kill Hakim, although he DID pull the trigger. Good for him.
He's really lucky the explosion happened RIGHT then and he got shielded by a piece of metal, or he would have been dead. Lucky for him.
Maybe all the near death stuff messed with him so bad he basically almost flubbed a press conference and if that had happened he might have lost his spot.
His DAD had to bring him to earth for some R&R.
They stop by 7 and he visits the Debris Section only to find out Tanabe has resigned for "reasons"
At earth his brother is still a pain in the butt with the katsu stealing, but he's grown so huge now.
The man on impulse decides to go see Tanabe after realizing her "Will" was empty
He spaced out, crashed and landed in the sea, where he has a trippy near death experience
He survives and comes out to see Tanabe. She's in a wheelchair, suffering nerve damage. Aww damn.
Hoshino APOLOGIZES!! Whoa ..!!! Is it enough?
Frankly if he doesn't get his head screwed on right, he shoudln't be going to Jupiter.
Hachi's reunion with Tanabe is unconvincing. This is a man who spurns everyone around him for months or years if he gets so much as a single insecurity or pessimistic thought in his head, so why should the viewer believe this revelation of his is going to be the one that has any long term impact? Hachi has already had plenty of those, and they never lasted for longer than the duration of the scene, let alone an episode.
I don't think much has changed since the start in terms of storytelling
It's just each character flaws and weakness were shown in different lights and those said characters then realizes them
I liked the focus on Hoshino psyche and his struggles with loneliness and of course, his utter stubbornness to admit that
he does love space, and absolutely wants to achieve his dream of exploring space but he realize time after time that he is a simple person,
he wants to be surrounded by loved ones yet space kinda is the opposite of that and that's why it took him all this time to finally know that
But yes, the "romance" in this anime sucks, it's not well written and Tanabe is such one-dimensional boring character
then again, Japanese authors almost always fail to write an actual loveable female character in romance,
it always this template of submissive, clingy, naïve, clumsy yet annoying girl, they just don't know any other
