@SoulMoon

The lack of existence of parents in anime is often frowned upon. But your list of actual SoL anime is... well short.

Basically this makes only 14 titles. I think it's pretty harsh to complain about an entire genre based on 14/64 titles. I might have missed a few but still. Especially since your complaints don't even apply to all of the SoL anime you've seen.

From the ones I've seen the following have plenty of parental figures/limits to what people can do due to common sense or it doesn't apply that there's a need for parents.

So basically from your list what seems to me to be the worst offenders would be Sakurasou/Hyouka/Oregairu/Toradora!(assuming Taiga didn't get reprimanded for her assasination attempt because I dropped it after episode 1). So can you actually name the SoL anime that you think are specifically characteristic for the points you don't like?

The thing is, they're slices of life, it's not showing a slice of their life perse where they show you everything that happens in 1 day. They show you the more interesting things. Parents not present shouldn't be a problem. A lack of (the concept of) parents however can be seen as a problem.

About the love/romance thing, since you don't mention which ones you don't like specifically it's hard to respond to it. But Clannad for example is a slice of life anime. It doesn't necessarily creates drama in the love relationship due to love relationship issues. If you've seen both seasons, you'll understand what I mean. It's just with the small sample size you have that you don't get a complete picture.

Also I don't really know what you expect with innovation in the SoL genre. It's just what it is, it's a slice of someone's ore a group of people their lives. Sure you can make it more fancy and that gets done sometimes.

I never claimed Mushishi's main genre would be Slice of Life, but the thing is, it is a SoL even if it's not maily one.

If you don't mind slow paced SoLs like Usagi Drop, then the Aria series and Non Non Biyori might be something for you. Surely it helps if you think the girls are cute. But if you like the characters for who they are these anime are easy to enjoy. Aria is about slowly growing up and Non Non Biyori is just about things that happen sometimes in the country side. Also I think you should try Clannad especially because I don't think it suffers from the no parents stupid love thing you're so against.

About arche types and stuff, that doesn't bother me. But as far as I know, Aria/Non Non Biyori/Clannad don't have characters that have to fit in a character type. They're all characters with their own distinctive personalities.

are you talking about Slice of Life anime with ecchi and harem genre ?
well, about parent thing....i was wondering too, but i'm okay with it since most MC is a highschooler so....no problem with me. and hey...this is anime not reality...who cares? XD
same with hair's color problem. no one even care about it, more like, some people actually find that interesting to them, including me :D

Character voice ? especially girls......i found that really weird at the beginning but i'm used to it. it is not really annoying but sometimes it is really annoying XD

and for that love things that you mentioned; well, that is anime. they always do that and i never felt bored or i dislike it....i never felt that. actually i enjoy it. but some of them is different too. and i prefer they really need to get serious about it rather making it into some joke.
sorry for bad english.

I said SoL and/or anything else so technically I'm fine with my recommendation. Plus Higurashi has way more slice of life moments than Parasyte. But touche, so I'll switch my recommendation of Higurashi with Gakkou Gurashi a show similar to Higurashi but way more heavy in the SoL department. I was more or less confused about your recommendation of Parasyte mainly cause you're comment about the parents. Yeah they do influence the MC and do a few things but other than that they're pretty inactive for most of the show. Idk I haven't watched the show in a year so I'm a bit fuzzy with some of the details. I was gonna recommend Toradora as parent thing due to Ryuuji's relationship with his mom but OP already watched it and has a few gripes with Taiga's relationship with her dad.

I'm not the person who recommended Parasyte and Madoka as SoL. But Gakkou Gurashi is indeed way more SoL than Higurashi. I still would not recommend it as SoL without a reason.

Taiga from Toradora doesn't get reprimanded - she lives alone, her mother is either dead or divorced, and her dad is somewhat crazy and can't maintain a relationship with his daughter. I'm currently 14 episodes in, and I haven't got a clue what her dad's problem is.

- The Lack of Parents:

I often wonder if it is really common in Japan for teens to live alone because that concept seems really popular in anime, like oh his parents are overseas etc. Maybe it's common in Japan, and just one of those cultural differences. Ahem, with that said, Here are a few anime for you which have parents :)

It Started With a Kiss
Clannad
Boys Over Flowers (I think maybe? I watched the kdrama instead of the anime)

- My "Love" Problem:

What the hell slice of life have you been watching where they don't get together? Maybe you just stop watching before the end? lol. Slice of life without any drama (relationship tension) are quite dull (like for example "My Love Story" - Cute, but no real character progression.) They start dating right away! You might like that I guess. But almost every slice of life I've ever seen they date by the end. Some examples:

My Little Monster
Peach Girl
Aishiteruze Baby
Kimi Ni Todoke
Chobits
Nagi No Asukara
It Started With a Kiss
Maison Ikkoku (I'm assuming, actually haven't finished it cuz there's hundreds of episodes)

I dunno, like literally every slice of life I've ever seen, except for ones with tragic ends etc.

Some Characters

The high voice and cute thing is part of Japanese culture. It's not just an "anime" thing. You know how girls in America, and I'm assuming Europe, want to be skanky slutty whores? Because it's "hot" well over in Asian countries, girls want to look as "young" and "cute" or "kawaii" as possible. Overthere, youthfulness and cuteness is the "pinnacle of beauty" and what men desire, just as men in America desire very sexualized women. In Japanese society, although they are more "open" in some ways about sex and such, it's typically very strict and old fashioned in some ways and girls are raised to be more modest. It's just a cultural thing - think of it as just a fashion trend, or whatever. "Kawaii" is actually a "lifestyle" and a very popular one in Japan.

With that said, there are some anime with very strong (either physical or mental strength) female leads. Here are a few examples:

Revolutionary Utena
Peach Girl
My Little Monster
Chihayafuru
Aishiteruze Baby (although it's more from the male's perspective, the female there is very independent and sharp)
Nana (it has two girls named nana, the first one is the typical anime girl, the other one is a smoking, rock and roll "gothic" type of chick and a badass - of course the more stereotypical one is the "lead" but still the other one has a good amount of screentime as well.)
His and Her Circumstances
Plastic Memories (another one that has a male lead, but very strong female for him)

What kind of important story are you expecting in a slice of life anime?

Ok even if it's from youtube, it's said by actual japanese people that girls don't sound like that in school. like in school anime.

Fist of all I would like to say that I wrote my problems with Some Slice of Life animes, not all. I still defend my opinions about my problems with this genre so i guess i'm not going to repeat that again :)

About Clannad I tried to watch it and I really don't like the characters and their voices. It does't feel a credible story and the character design, in my opinion, was too much cuteness. And Aria i liked very much but i didn't feel excited to continue the story

I know ask for your top choices in the Slice of Life genre :D

I rant because, even I didn't watch a great amount of SoL anime, I feel that my problems will persist in the generality of the genre. I rate Hyouka quite high because of the mysteries, the art style and quality, most of the characters and my enjoyment watching this anime.

So yes you did say you feel like it's a problem of the genre, while I think it's a problem of what you choose to watch. That's why it's important tot tell us which anime you talk about. Also in your list I can't tell you watched either Clannad nor Aria. So just by going through your list we can't tell what you have seen either.

If you don't like the characters, voices, comedy or cuteness in Clannad, then maybe it's not for you. But at the end of the line, the general story told from Clannad through to the end of After Story is a good one. Well sort of, the ending is a bit "odd" and perhaps confusing.

I have heard more frequently that people aren't motivated to watch more of Aria but that they didn't dislike it. I'm not sure where that problem comes from, but that's a matter of taste.

Concerning your last sentance, I'm not sure what you mean by it. Was it supposed to be "I know I'll ask for your top choices" or is it supposed to be "I don't ask for your top choices"? If it's the first, well you can pick one of the ones I mentioned earlier. If it's the second, then I'm not trying to sell you my favourites. I picked anime that don't have love issues nor a severe lack of parents. Clannad might have some "typical" character (types) but the other two don't. The main things you said you don't like about SoLs.

If you want realistic SoL with an actual romance go watch Golden Time. Other SoL dramas and/or anything else could include Higurashi (EDIT I NOW MEAN Gakkou Gurashi), Spice and Wolf (another realistic romance), Working!!, My Teen Romantic Comedy S2 (saw that you watched the first one already), Hibike! Euphonium and Yamada and the Seven Witches.

As to what your problems are, those tend to be common in a lot of anime. I can understand why you might find them annoying.

OP I think you're just not watching good slice of life shows.

Here are some shows with parents and romance:

Working!

Servant x Service

Cross Game, Touch and everything else from Mitsuru Adachi

Clannad

Non non biyori doesn't have romance but certainly has parents

Hanamaru Youchien this one has romance in a way lol

GochiUsa has parents but no romance.

Gin no Saji has both parents and romance. Parents are funny too.

Parasyte has realistic parents as well. Problem is Parasyte is a slice of life more in a literal sense.

Space Brothers this slice of life is long as shit thought so you might lose interest.

Now go watch more anime before making silly blanket claims.
I'm confused as to why you would recommend Parasyte as SoL show. That's kinda like recommending Madoka Magica for SoL cause it has cute magical girls.

It was a joke. Parasyte is a slice of life because in the show there are literally slices of life(humans).
Sorry it was a bad pun that was misleading.

How is Mushishi not SOL? It's consists of small stories, slice of lives of various people.

Slice of Lives doesn't mean literally parts of life of different persons an a episodic anime. SoL represents the daily life of a character/characters in a more realistic way and focuses on a day to day life problems. And mushishi isn't that.

How isn't it? It shows the daily life of the people who live in its world. Their problems aren't huge and bizarre, but small and intimate.
