I've had good and bad experiences with online friendships. But I am not going to delve into a cynical view of it. Focusing on the bad is a telling sign of insecurity in real life experiences. Like people who are too insecure to start dating again because they "don't want to be hurt again". You pick yourself up and try again. You don't immediately disregard the good that can come from something simply because you've fallen. If you're insecure with online friendships/relationships. That's completely fine. You don't have to follow it. That is your choice and your life. No one should tell you how to live it. But when you place your view on a pedestal and preach it to everyone as the god's honest truth. That's where it becomes idiotic. It's like me sitting here telling you online friends are better because I met too many dicks going out to bars. Which is not true at all. |

I speak circlejerk and unfortunately there are no combination of words that sound like "think for yourself" or "individuality" in that language. Nothing I can say. (I like Nico so I wouldn't say anything anyway.) While I agree with you aloricg, and quite heavily I might add, you should give at least a little bit of credit where it's due, just to raise your credit a little bit. Keeping in mind that the topic is "Do you (as in, personally) value online friendships the same as IRL relationships?" instead of, "Is Online or IRL friends more influential/better/whatever than the other?" --- While I don't think an online relationship can EVER compare to an IRL relationship of equal caliber, there are people with a lack of experience or an abnormal amount of luck in one or the other. To those people specifically, it does make sense why they would personally value it more. There are people who have been luckily enough to have a deep as fuck online relationship with someone for 7~ years like Subatonic, but, and I'm sorry to those who think otherwise, there simply is no comparison to a full-on IRL relationship. You may not see a difference, but that's because you have not personally had a proper IRL relationship to compare your internet ones too. You are biased in the wrong way and uneducated. You have utterly missed out. |

Depends where online, for example If a met someone on facebook vs someone on a game forum. You can feel closer to someone you know well on facebook because they have pictures and stuff (its possible all of it can be fabricated but say we have mutual friends..etc), you are more prone to trust the individual however it is also possible to befriend someone who you've been talking to for a while. You can't help but feel an emotional attached to them even if they are just words popping up on a screen. |

Literally nothing productive is going to come out of this. The fact that you're upset by this, and the posters seem to be encouraged by this more than anything, is a pretty good indication that it's time to ignore.
