| Don't know what to say to make you feel better, but that sucks. Like many other people (including myself, bad memories there), you probably learned the hard way that you should save often. Take your time and do it when you're ready so you'll recreate what you were proud of. Once you get around to typing it up again, it shouldn't be too hard since you have an idea what to write. |

| Chapter 17: Astonguard Part One. The sun peeked over the hills behind the city of Astonguard. The gates spanned fifty meters in both directions, but the city itself spanned many kilometres in each direction. The huge wooden drawbridge had armed guards on it, but other than that, pretty much anyone was free to enter. The party had stayed at the Inn the night before, as they were too demoralised to make for the city. The party’s mood had risen once again after they left the Inn. The party had decided to put Yoro’s first death behind them, and work on ways to prevent it from happening again. There was the sound of hollow wood as the party stepped onto the drawbridge. “Man… How are we going to find one man in this city?” Asa questioned. “It’s like finding a needle in a pile of needles” Asa was now walking on his own two legs but still with a slight limp in his step. “There’s gotta be someone in here who knows about an old man who researches Hell, given that some old man in a remote village so far away from here knew about him.” Zetrin said as he scratched his head. “We need to find an Inn before we start searching, so we don’t have to go through the trouble of finding one late at night.” Goh said as they stepped past the guards and entered into the city. The sudden and dramatic change in the atmosphere was overwhelming. Hundreds of people flooded the main street, filtering in and out of the alleys that lead to tall buildings and even more main streets. Even at first impression, the party could tell, that Astonguard was many times larger than MAL City itself, although the air was surprisingly clean. It took more than a few moments for the party to come to their senses. “What do you know?” Kousoku chimed. “An Inn so close to the entrance.” Sure enough, there was a large Inn wedged between two other buildings on the other side of the main street. Although it was hardly a coincidence. Astonguard must get hundreds, or even thousands of travellers every day. Luckily the party had reached the city at such early hours in the morning. A bell rang at the top of the door as the party entered the building. Uno stared at a couple eating breakfast yearnfully as they passed them. Goh rang the bell on the bar and a man walked through the door behind the bar. “Ten beds and the basement for three nights.” Goh said. The bartender looked at Goh like he was insane. Goh slotted one hundred gold pieces onto the bar and the look on the man’s face instantly changed. “Certainly sir!” He grinned as he started counting the coins. “There’s two empty rooms upstairs with five beds in each. The basement hasn’t been used in a while, but I’ve kept it clean.” He gave Goh the keys as he finished counting. Goh simply nodded, then he turned to face the rest of the party. “We can cover more ground if we split into groups of two. Kousoku and I have already decided on the groups and where they will go.” He said as the party listened intently. “Lupa and Kibura will ask around the City Centre. Asa and Lime will ask around the market district. Korrvo and Emerald will look around the library. Uno and Zetrin will search the Western District, Yoro and Capri will search the Eastern District. Kousoku and I will go to the Lord’s estate at the top of the city. We will meet back in this Inn’s basement at the setting of the sun to exchange information. We clear?” Everybody was satisfied with the situation, save for one person. Well, I’m sure you can guess who. Lupa and Kibura had taken a thirty minute walk to the City Centre. The entire walk consisted of Lupa babbling about maids, and Kibura pretending to listen. “We’ll split up and ask around the plaza.” Kibura said to Lupa. “Sounds good.” He replied. They both asked around for what seemed like hours but harvested no results. They both flopped down onto a bench beside the water fountain in the very centre of the city. “It’s no good…” Lupa panted sweating all through his new clothes. “The morning got hot so quickly too…” He finished. “You’re telling me.” Kibura replied wiping a drop of sweat off of her forehead. “Hey you guys there!” A female voice sounded in front of them. A girl walked up to them with a smile on her face. “I seen you askin’ around for somethin’. Watcha after?” she asked. She spoke in a western sort of accent. “Yeah, we’re looking for an old man who can tell us about Hell’s Gates.” Lupa said. “He supposedly lives in this city.” Lupa continued. The girl smiled. “I know ‘im.” She said. “I reckon I can help ya.” She said reaching out for a handshake. “Really? Thanks!” Lupa exclaimed shaking her hand. “I’m Narta by the way.” The girl said. A glint of something malicious glazed over her eyes in the sun. “Glad to meet ya.” Narta said. *Meanwhile* Goh and Kousoku walked along a main main street. This particular main street starts from the entrance of Astonguard, passes through the City Centre and straight to the top of the city, to where the Lord of Astonguard’s estate is. Goh and Kousoku had stayed behind at the Inn to sort out the rooms and put peoples weapons and armour away. It was already mid-morning. “Damn, it’s freaking hot already!” Goh whined as he blocked the sun by putting his hand above his eyes. “I wonder whose fault that is!” Kousoku sarcastically quipped. “Are you saying that it’s my fault? I can’t control the sun, idiot.” Goh sneered back. “Who are you calling an idiot? Idiot. And if you had of just sorted the rooms out when we returned, we would have already been at the estate by now you know.” Kousoku jeered at Goh. “We can’t carry weapons around the city, you half-wit. Do honestly you think that entering the Lord’s estate fully armed isn’t going to start conflict?” Goh said pushing Kousoku. “Half-wit? Are you trying to start something ya bastard?” Kousoku said grabbing Goh’s shirt. “And what if I am?!” Goh grabbed Kousoku’s shirt back and they both rammed heads. People around them were starting to feel anxious. Kousoku realised this and pushed Goh away. “Ahh screw it.” he said “I’m going to buy a cold drink.” He left for a street vendor by the other side of the main street. “Tsk. I wasn’t done yet.” Goh sneered to himself. Goh took a deep breath. Then another. The air around Goh seemed still, and Goh started shuffling his feet above the cobbles on the ground. Something was making him restless, like he was suffocating, yet breathing. It was coming from behind him. An alleyway. Goh stepped into the alley. He looked around and he could see nothing but shadows. The presence of something ill still floated in the air. “Oh. What a shame.” An echoing voice said from the shadows. “You had a similar smell to a girl I know. I had thought you were her.” The voice was croaky and sounded disappointed. “Where are you? Show yourself!” Goh yelled, stepping further into the alley. “I’m right here. And I’d rather not leave thank you. I’ve taken quite a liking to these shadows.” Goh was completely unarmed. He had never felt so insecure in his life. He managed to keep up a brave front. “You were calling me into the alley weren’t you? For what reason?” Goh asked. He had his fists raised and it didn’t take him long to realise that his entire body was shaking. Goh saw, or rather felt, something glide into the shadows behind him. Goh quickly turned to face it. “I just told you, did I not? I thought you were someone else. I originally wanted to see this girl again… However... You have a nice smell too…” Goh was a little more than just freaked out now. “I get the feeling that we’re… The same. Like you don’t belong here either.” The shadows churned around him once more. “But you are the same as that girl. Or maybe not. No. I sense something different about you…” Goh heard footsteps approaching him, then a person emerged from the shadows… No, it wasn’t a person. “What the hell!? What are you!?” Goh shouted taking a step backwards, he was now completely terrified. This ‘person’ was like a human-sized, torn-up doll, mistreated by its owner. His eyes were blood-shot and there was a rip in his face where his nose was supposed to be. “I know! Ugly, aren’t I?” The doll said with a laugh. “Imagine waking up in a world, all of a sudden, you have emotions and feelings, and you have no idea what is going on… Everyone you try to talk to just runs away in terror. You feel like a monster.” The doll cackled and danced back into the shadows. “Well, not that I’d expect you to understand.” The doll slid into the shadows opposite him. “Do you have a name?” Goh replied without even turning to face the doll. “You can call me Red. That’s what my stitching says anyway.” The doll laughed. “Ooops. Looks like I gave away my name, heheh. Well, I guess I’ll take my leave now.” The doll’s presence disappeared instantly and Goh relaxed. Goh looked up. The blue sunny sky had changed into a grey cloudy sky. Thunder echoed across the city and the entire valley. Raindrops began to drop onto Goh’s face. “A glitch, huh…?” End of Chapter. |

| Chapter 18: Astonguard Part 2 "I really want a bucket of fried chicken..." Uno was dragging his feet along the ground and drooling from his mouth. "Potato and Gravy sounds delicious too..." Zetrin was beginning to look frustrated. The rain was poring now, and Zetrin was getting soaked. "Stop fantasizing about KFC and get your ass over here would you!?" Zetrin's eyebrow was twitching. "We'll buy lunch with the gold Goh gave us, but then we have to get straight back to looking for the old man." Uno's eyes lit up. "Yes! I promise!" Zetrin sighed. "What do you want to eat?" he said to the excited Uno. "HAMBURGERS!" Uno was frothing at the mouth. But Zetrin had stopped listening. Uno started hitting his shoulder to get his attention. "Go on without me." Zetrin said suddenly. "What about lunch!?" Uno said frantically. Zetrin dropped the pouch of gold coins in Uno's hands and jogged away. 'It can't be.' Zetrin thought to himself. He could hardly tell through the heavy rain, but he swore he saw the face of someone familiar. She was with Lupa and Kibura. "I have a bad feeling about this..." Zetrin whispered to himself. Capri was riding on Yoro's shoulders under a large shelter in the Eastern District. Many people were eating their lunch on seats positioned around the courtyard. Yoro looked at Capri over his shoulder. She was looking around at all the other people. For the first time Yoro noticed how young she looks. It must have been hard being separated from your family like that. Yoro thought gto himself. "Capri?" Yoro said to her. "Mm?" she replied with a curious look. "How old are you?" Yoro thought he was close enough to her to ask this question. After a moment of thinking Capri replied. "Eight!" she exclaimed with a smile on her face. "Do you miss your family?" Yoro asked. Capri looked sad all of a sudden, and Yoro felt like he'd asked the wrong question. Capri smiled again. "I don't have a family anymore." she said. Yoro was shocked that she said this with such a straight face. "Oh I-I see..." Yoro looked at the ground. He felt like such an idiot. "But I'm glad that I met you!" Capri said with a huge smile. "You're like a papa to me! And Goh, Kousoku and Asa are like big brothers!" Yoro was slightly taken back by this. "I-I see... Papa, huh?" Yoro was blushing. "The man I worked for at MAL HQ was very mean." she said sadly. Yoro was angry. How could anyone be mean to this cute little thing? "His name was Kineta or something" she said. "Ah man! I'm so tired!" Asa was walking with Lime through the wet Market. The rain had stopped and other people were walking the streets once again. "I see." Lime replied. Asa sighed. "You don't really talk much do ya kiddo?" Lime Pretended he didn't hear. "Ya know, we're not gonna get to know each other if you keep so quiet." he said with a fake laugh. "That's fine with me." Lime said. Asa looked troubled. Then he spoke. "Suit yourself." he said with a sigh. All of a sudden the crowd around them began to thicken. It began to get so crowded that Asa could barely even even move. 'What the hell?' Asa thought to himself. The entire street was flooded with people. All of a sudden, the people filtered through the multiple alleys, and Asa was left standing in the middle of the street. Alone. Lime was missing. End of Chapter. Next Time: Astonguard Part 3 |

| Well, I plan to make this entire story at least 100 chapters, the size of a full lengthed novel at least. But I want each Arc to go for 10-20 chapters. This is good practice for me, I think. |

| I fell asleep for 20 minutes. >.< just finished writing then. Chapter 19: Astonguard Part 3 Zetrin followed from a safe distance. 'Just as I thought!' Zetrin sharply whispered to nobody in particular. Lupa and Kibura were walking beside Kineta's personal assistant. 'If Kineta is the one behind this entire ordeal, then she is up to something too...' Zetrin blended in with the crowd as he moved from corner to corner. Jumping in now was a stupid idea. He had no idea what Narta was capable of in this world. The same thought rinsed through Zetrin's mind over and over. What could she want? It hit Zetrin as he tailed them into an alley. She was going to kill them. Kineta must have sent her here to eliminate them before they could cause problems. Narta being here indicates two things. Kineta must have an ulterior motive in this plan. That much Zetrin was aware of. The second is that there's a way to access this world from the outside. This opened the door for a world of possibilities. 'Things are going to get complicated.' Zetrin said to himself. 'More importantly, I have a plan to formulate.' Uno wandered the streets looking like a child seperated from its mother. Uno was never good with people he didn't know. He knew Zetrin had something important to do judging by the urgency in his voice before he left. He juggled the pouch of coins between his hands. His stomach growled. 'Urggh...' Uno hated being hungry. He mustered his courage to buy food from a vendor. Before he could even take a step, a child with silver hair slightly hidden from under a brown hood bumped into him. Uno stumbled backwards. 'Watch it kid!' he called out. His hand suddenly felt lighter. He looked down to see his hands were now empty. The aura around Uno changed instantly. His hands were clenched and his teeth grinded back and forth in his mouth. You could swear that his hair could spike and turn yellow at any minute. 'My lunch...' The door to the library swung open with a loud creak. It towered high. From the outside it was one of the tallest buildings in the entire city, but from the inside it looked even bigger. Every floor's ground was made out of thick glass save for the ground floor. 'It's huge!' Emerald exclaimed in awe. 'Mmm...' Korrvo said. Korrvo was blushing and shuffling his feet along the ground. He hadn't said a word the entire trip to the library. 'If you don't mind, could you go on without me for the moment? I have something reeaally important to do...?' It almost sounded like a plea. 'Sure...' Korrvo said meekly. Emerald skipped up to the second floor. Once she was out of sight Korrvo slapped both his cheeks with both of his hands until they turned red. 'You're so pathetic Korrvo' Korrvo scolded himself. 'You planned this for so long! Get it together!' Korrvo relaxed his arms and let out a sigh. He surveyed the first floor. The librarian receptionist sat behind her counter near the entrance. 'Excuse me!' he said as he approached her. 'What can I do for you?' she asked with a pretty smile. 'Where can I research the underworld?' Korrvo asked. The young womans smile quickly faded, but only for a moment. 'Eighth floor, section H3!' She said. 'There's some tapes in section D9 on the same floor.' She handed Korrvo a map. 'Thanks.' he said. The Lord's estate was more like a castle than anything else. It was made of huge stone bricks and the walls were crenellated. 'Ugh. What age are we in exactly?' Kousoku asked rhetorically. 'What sort of pompous tit owns this place I wonder...' Goh scowled. Kousoku and Goh were united in their hatred for overly fancy and expensive things. Perhaps the only thing the two agreed on. 'C'mon' Kousoku said approaching the front gate. 'I don't wanna be stuck with you out here in the sun longer than I have to.' Goh ignored his attempt to start another bout. 'Save it. We're on royal grounds now. We have to behave.' Goh sighed. 'Whatever the case, whatever we need to know, I'm sure we can learn from this guy.' End of Chapter |
