Poor Akuma no Riddle... now _that_ is doing badly ;_;
Don't forget about Amazon versions! AnR has 208 points overall!

Do you spend half of your money on CDs? I guess parents pays for all your needs so you can use everything on entertainment?

dat has nothing to do with me.
Instead of buying these CDs, I would spend on games and visual novel though .

Interestingly, Ping Pong is at #328 ATM. So there does seem to be some reason in Aniplex's madness for greenlighting it.

Ping Pong up to 159... I am going to stop saying what Aniplex should produce... they might know what they're doing.

Edit: Up to 128.

I mean, it wouldn't be the first Masaki Yuasa thing to sell. Tatami Galaxy averaged like 5k in the same timeslot (albiet with a 4-disk release). This is a box, but it's basically the cost of a series (30,000+ yen) unless it gets discounted.

Also, wheeeeeee!

I'm honestly shocked how well Ping Pong is doing. I'm sure it'll drop like a rock later on but potentially getting into the top 100 at all is impressive

Possibly...Or maybe the industry in general is just a giant crap shoot when it comes to predicting what will or won't sell well :P. You might be giving them too much credit lol.

Monogatari 12 volumes on 26 episodes
Fate/Zero 2 box on 25 episodes
Silver Spoon 12 volumes on 22 episodes
Nisekoi 7 volumes on 20 episodes
Mekaku 12 volumes on 12 episodes

Then suddenly...

Ping Pong box on 11 episodes.....

Everything is turning out fine for these shows but...can someone explain these inconsistencies on Aniplex on their flagship shows? It is amazing Shaft agrees with these even though they're on the production committee on their shows. If this is some marketing experiment then it is a loooong one. I'm getting irritated by this mess. If Mahouka and SAO2 gets this treatment, fans would hesitate to buy.

I don't think Shaft has anything to do with disc packaging except when they're asked to draw covers. They animate and draw and answer staff interview questions for the booklets. No more. Aniplex decided how to release them. Gin no Saji first season as singles but second just as a box, Pingpong gets a box first thing.

Speaking of Pingpong, 93 and still slowly rising:

Most likely switching to stores like HMV where the bonuses are and slightly lower prices.

Mushishi is 4 episodes per disc but it's 11800 yen for disc 1! Ouch! That's no great deal on yen/episode, 2950 yen per. You don't need to get your butt off the couch as often but compared to Mouretsu Pirates which had 4 episodes/disc at standard prices, Mushishi seems very expensive.

JoJo is also 4 episodes per disc but is a little better at 10260 yen each. 2560 yen/episode.

Aniplex can't decide it 100%. Every member of the committee should have a common agreement on how to sell everything because their money is on the line. And for the shows I said above, shaft is included on those three shows. Heck, even Hobunsha has some little say on that matter. So shaft has some say but aniplex will the decide the final outcome since they're the distributor and they have the most money pitched in on these discs.

I don't know, but for reasons like you posted I still think Aniplex is the most transparently "for the money" figure in the anime industry these days and on some level it's starting to turn me off of their shows, even when I kind of like them to start. They seem so overwhelmingly concerned with finding ways to try and maximize the profit of their shows versus just making them consistent and good that I'm always sitting there with the thought in the back of my mind that things are about to go off the rails and launching in some random direction or the focus is going to get all weird in order to try and tap some alternate demographic or for some other sort of monetary or egocentric reason.

I'm also shocked that Ping Pong club is doing well at all since it's so non-otaku in it's approach. The cynic in me feels maybe it lends credence to the theory some people have that Aniplex sends employees out to occasionally buy back some of their own stock to increase a series profile and generate artificial hype. I hope it's not the case and that's it's selling just because it's been well executed so far, but the unusual approach to the art style and the content has me pretty skeptical that it would do well on it's own with the typical buying habits of the Japanese audience. Of course it could also be that it's a boxsets and boxsets typically tend to have very good starts or so it would seem.

Only somewhat. It's not yet decided how will it do but something which gets solicited after three episodes and barely touches top100 doesn't look good. Amazon version doesn't look like it will help much. Normal version already started slowly falling. Keep in mind it's a BD Box so its rank at amazon is inflated.
I hope people are just waiting with their decision because it costs so much.

Thats one nice episode boost for 'Haikyuu!!'. Both the BD and DVD are in the top 100. Its going to break 10k at if it keeps this up. If you include Wk2+ and the storefront effect.

Thing is, it isn't ranking well. Sure, #132 might look nice at first but if you consider the facts it was solicited few days ago, is already dropping, never got close to top50, already has three out of eleven episodes aired, it suddenly stops looking so bright. I was happy while I could, when it was rising in its first hours and I still didn't know where it would stop. Now I just hope for 2-3frt.

I expected it to sell like 500 copies total given how badly those really artsy shows normally do, so its still much brighter if you're a fan of the series than I would have guessed.

I guess if your hope was "This show that completely goes against every popular anime trend might sell 10k!", then I guess you'd be disappointed but that was an unrealistic hope to begin with. Being able to sell 3k and not being a total failure is a win in my book.

Should we really expect an original anime to have a lot of sales with only a single episode having aired on TV? This is not a rhetorical question, I'm actually curious if that is a reasonable expectation.

Well it's 24 episodes supposedly, so still plenty of time to pull a NagiAsu if it's good.

Problem is, M3 looks on track to be one of the worst selling anime ever. If it was a series like Akuma no Riddle or Blade and Soul which has been sent to die it would have come as no surprise, but an anime series with names like Junichi Sato and Mari Okada attached to it performing so badly is historic. Both of them probably will have to leave the anime industry in shame if things don't improve massively for M3.

Looks like Love Live will be the topseller this season unless some things change. Is there any other show with multiple season that achieved being the top seller despite airing on a different season from the first one? I can only think of Monogatari Series (Summer,Winter) and Love Live(Winter, Spring) are the only two shows.

Event ticket details (main male cast attending, Yui staying home) posted today so KamiAso rockets into the top 40:

top 30 now.

I think this can be the biggest(in %) event ticket boost of the season.

Yes, go my pretty boys. RISE.
Actually, I don't really like the show. Harems/reverse harems usually aren't my cup of tea, but the more bishounen shows that sell the better cause I do like pretty boys to look at.

You should check out its v2 drop though.

WOW incredible. What a shame though, KamiAso is one of those reverse harem otoge based anime that you don't headdesk constantly for. It's really fun to watch.

Looks like Love Live will be the topseller this season unless some things change. Is there any other show with multiple season that achieved being the top seller despite airing on a different season from the first one? I can only think of Monogatari Series (Summer,Winter) and Love Live(Winter, Spring) are the only two shows.

I'm not counting out Mekaku City Actors for a single solitary second. Things almost certainly will change once it airs it's more popular song episode this week and people find anything in particular to latch onto and like about it at all. There's too much potential to be tapped with it's huge rabid fanbase as well for it to be allowed to be just end up a modest seller. Aniplex will think of something to get those numbers up. I expect some sort of event ticket to be added to the equation or some bonuses aside from just a music CD as well.

I doubt Fujoshi are remotely interested in meeting Saori Hayami anyway. They'd probably sooner see her as "the enemy (TM)".
