Yup there's MAL, anime-planet, AniDb, ANN, Hummingbird, and also there's Herro. All of them so far except for ANN have the ability to just import your list from here, so they're quite easy to try out.

On the other hand, for people completely happy with MAL there's no reason to leave. <3

There's no reason to not be on more than one anime list site. MAL is my main one and A-P is my backup, but they have features that MAL don't have such as loving/hating characters and making Lists(favorite anime, most hated characters, owned on dvd, etc), with no limits. Not sure about Hummingbird and the other ones that IntroverTurtle listed.

It would be so awesome if MAL had some of the features AP has. Like Loving/Hating characters, similar characters, won't watch etc.

It would be nice if there was an option to choose between having the Japanese or English title of an anime to be displayed on your "my anime list"

So for example, instead of having Ao no Exorcist, I could have Blue Exorcist instead.

oh, do you have a link that I could see for this response??

Edit: Just incase, I was asking about being able to edit the titles on your anime list that you generate (obviously if they have licensed the english titles and if they are available) not setting the whole website to use just English titles...

No, they've actually made it clear that they were planning a toggle switch for your own list. Kineta said it here in the main thread for this issue.

EDIT: Ninjad

At first it got pushed back because the site was attacked. Now, who knows. But they were planning one. This user has some userscripts on his profile that can switch the names.

I would love this, because some shows I refer to the English title and others the Japanese. Like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni will always be that, but The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will always be that to me.

The link to the user up there I posted makes scripts, she might have made one where you can individually change names. But if not there is FoxReplace which is a firefox addon that lets you individually change the text so Higurashi can be in romaji and Haruhi can be in English.

My thinking exactly!! Also the previous users scripts worked well with chrome and just changes the the titles to english on your local machine - when I get home I will find the link for that script

This is an English speaking site. Therefore, if it passes, the only two options will be Japanese and English.

Yes, but this site isn't only English/Japanese,
because we can find Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian... etc fansubbers
or Spanish, French, German, Brazilian, Hungarian... voice actors...

Also anime is from Japan, so this is cool,
this site keeps official titles and use Japanese titles as main titles, not english.

Being able to choose, in general, whether the name of the anime shows up as the English version or the Japanese version on ones page (or maybe more importantly, to oneself when perusing others as well) would be perfect.

Whenever reviewing my own list for example, I find myself having to pull up various shows to even see what they are. "Hotaru no Haka? What the heck was that... --Oh, Grave of the Fireflies."

I'm pretty surprised that this isn't an option already.

I support this if it's client-sided only - as in, every user can choose the option of viewing titles in English or in their romanized form. It'd be way too confusing if people's lists were all different from each other.

Yes this would be awesome. NA released shows that HAVE the English title should be able to display it. There are 100's of shows on my list I'm confused as to what they are unless I click on it.

Yeah, okay. Listen, as I just said, this is an English speaking site. As in, everyone speaks English on the public forums. Other languages are relegated to clubs. Doing your moronic idea would take way too much work for very little benefit. Either way, this thread and your post is pointless. Kineta has already said that this option is coming (whether the Sun explodes first is another matter).

Hence having the 'option' though to choose between what you want to display (and this would just be for personal viewing, any else viewing your list would see the default anime titles -unless they choose otherwise.)

Definitely!! That would be the idea behind as it would be too much work to change every single entry. But seen as the English title is listed in the information, A little toggle button on ones list would choose the Jap title, or the Eng title :)

Because they were planning this option to choose Romaji or English for your list toggle while they were changing all the names to romaji but something came up and stopped that. So they had to stop changing the names.

Just a small heads-up: They actually still are changing the names on rare basis/they make some exceptions.
Not long ago, the two Clannad OVAs were renamed to Kyou-hen and Tomoyo-hen, from the long-term Another World: Kyou Chapter and Another World: Tomoyo Chapter.

So what? They still continued to change names after that. They changed Legend of the Galactic Heroes and a bunch of others... l don't get why FMAB is still the same though... you'd think someone would have noticed by now since it's a very popular show (more than LOTGH)

Because some of the japanese titles go on to 2 lines in the list, the english title is half the length (a good point of this was made on the first page with reference to the Dragonball series. Also it makes it easier to find what you are looking for, or for others to go through your list without having to click on each entry they dont know just to find a title they understand (again reference made on the first page).

I believe I still haven't shared my opinion on the idea.
Well, on short, I would prefer to have it hybrid - both English and Japanese.

Keeping the unnecessary extra explanations aside, it would be nice if this userscript could actually be officially input (although fixes and patches would of course be needed):

That would take a lot of personal time wouldnt it?? Especially if you have over 300 entries and you wanting selected ones to show English title and others Japanese (or any other language for that matter.)
