Despite thinking Miyazaki is a horribly overrated director, and that every Studio Ghibli film I've ever watched was mediocre at best, there's a kernel of truth to that statement. Modern computer animation is tremendous when harnessed correctly, but a lot of it is used in an aesthetic that most non-anime fans would consider deeply ugly. Code Geass immediately comes to mind. If nothing else, Studio Ghibli have superb attention to animation detail, and a wonderful design aesthetic many modern series lack. As for the picture... Aoki Densetsu Shoot! |

I agree with you on this, 100%. I didn't mean to sound like I was suggesting he should make a movie that looks like Pixar. Stuff like "I can't stand modern movies. The images are too weird and eccentric for me." just rubs me the wrong way. And a "boot camp where mobile phones, iPods and other electronic devices are banned"? Please. Again, I really love some of the stuff. Nausicaa = awesome. Those huge insects, and gliders who are apparently powered by fairy dust, and apocalyptic laser-shooting giants are fine with me. They are weird and eccentric, but they are fine. Probably because the animators who drew them didn't have any cell phones or ipods or hello-kitty dildos to distract them from their work. | If I had to guess, I'd say it's either of these reasons (or a combination of them both): 1) This game is absurdly easy for him, and he is bored with it. 2) He is tired of people (like me) posting overly vague screenshots from anime that no one has seen. And no, neither of the two above guesses is correct. Especially not Fist of the North Star, because it's not even on my list xP |
