I think this was a weak ending, especially after a real good season.
I hoped for good ending, but the bad side is that how we arrived there in the last two episode.
Nanaka's past just popped out randomly. No real story line at Sana's side, no decisions in the present and I think a little lame explanation for the past (or the earlier flashbacks was too exaggerating about it).
In overal I think they had to made a better ending from this backstory...

It was an good anime. It managed to stay interesting all the way to the end. I feel like some of the romantic moments could have been done better. It offered some interesting surprises like twincest and yuri. I couldn't feel any romance between Sana and Nanaka though. I felt like the strong bond between the twins were much better conveyed.

Just a few small minuses:
1.The OP was kind of lame and embarrassing.
2. Aoi had an annoying voice.
3. Boring stereotypical protagonist.
4. "Living happily after" endings makes me feel lonely. lol

It would have been much better to do an OVA instead of the 4 minutes at the end of the last episode "10 years later" they easily could have done an episode of it. And that would have been much more fulfilling then the 4 minutes or so that they used.

Some comments:

-The girl with the glasses, forgot her name, has SUCH a squeaking voice. It annoys the hell outta me everytime I watch the anime.
-There were... some confusions and plots holes. Maybe a few too many for me to rate it very high. But at least it didn't end as such a train wreck as School Days. (watched both around the same time).
-Just for that song at the end, I'll give it a 7.

^ Also agree with the above comment, should've had an OVA.

I expected that it would end in a dramatic-cliffhanger sort of way, and maybe get into an ova or 2nd season continuation. The "watch" related thing... I had thought that it would be more prominent or interesting (involving a family/friend tragedy).
btw I never really heard that slitting your wrist with a razor was a common practice with suicides...
Anyway, there were some many other things they could had explored... Aoi, Hinako and the twins could had gotten longer or expanded side-stories.
So they ended up twincest? ~Obvious ;D

Summary: The overall ending was a little weak, not too powerful or moving.

What? You don't like tragedy? I loved School Days's ending! ^^

I can't believe the ratings. Seriously. The best mark for this anime, in my point of view, should be 7. It wasn't very good. The fact that they wasted 2 episodes on a supporting character reinforces my statement.

Ok, 8/10 I have to admit I kind of liked it in the end. Poor Nanaka's mom, got beated by her husband who then became an hero.

If the stupid music teacher didn't had said anything everything would have been ok, damn you music teacher you ruined three people's life by telling the truth, I'll make sure I never remember your name stupid music teacher!

No Nanaka don't become an hero like your father! good thing Sana got to her in time. OMG i KNEW IT, sana tried to become an hero too that's why he was send to the town! I did knew that was the reason I swear.

Lol timeskip end... Anyway TWINCEST END ******* CONFIRMED!

FMD so much drama... the last episodes were really well done. It's like they switched writers midway through the series hah. Or like started to attempt a plot at least. They took too long character building imo but oh well. How her father can do that to anyone never alone his wife and daughter disgusts me. How selfish, she obviously made a mistake in not telling Nanako's father but she obviously chose him and not the violin teacher so it shouldn't have had such an effect.

I feel a kind of loss though now that I know that I've finished the series.

Anyway, it was sitting on an 8 but with the last episode I have decided to give it a 9/10 regardless of the lack of kiss scene.

On that note:

They should have put that scene from the 4 minute bonus DVD in the anime.

silentdreamer said:
I'm still wondering as to whether the twins are "together" or not.

I think the answer to that is definitely with the way they were holding hands at the end. I'm glad they left it ambiguous but, I'm sick of good anime like this being spoiled by said themes.

Exactly the same, even the raiting. I mean, we have seen this kind of story before. Kinda cliche, the only thing was... the emo cutwrist scene. And what the fuck was with the Nanaka's father smashin his wife, the noises was loltastic.

I really wonder how other people can give this show scores like 8 or 9. The highest I can give this series is only a 7. I'll either give this a 6 or 7. So much promise in the beginning, but they spread out the development among too many minor characters like the old lady Kaji and the loli, Hinako.

The pacing wasn't that good either. For the first 9 or 10 episodes, I felt meh most of the time. The only really good episode for me was episode 11. That was the episode that made the most impact on me.

The last 2 episodes were pretty rushed too. Sana's development and backstory in such a short amount of time. Then the very last episode showed them 10 years later. Just like that. If this series had been given the proper pacing and focused properly on a few main characters, I would definitely be able to give a higher score.

I find this show rather unfocused. If this series was made as an advertisement and a way to promote the game, then I supposed it can't be helped. I seriously expected way more for this series. This series could have been better done as a 26 episode series; the pacing, plot and development of all the characters could have been more fleshed out.

Last but not least, Aoi still doesn't sound that different, even after 10 years. And her voice is still very annoying to me. Probably one of the things I hated the most in this series.

Sigh. So much wasted potential for this show.

Meh I just fell in love with the characters to be perfectly honest, also I guess the scores higher then 7 are because people are fans of the genre and how the ending didn't just end as a "kiss scene" or looking at fireworks, etc which normally happens in this genre.

Also to person's comments -

1. I loved the OP, best sequence I've seen in such a long time, it upbeat, cheesy yes but very optimisitic, something I want from my animation. So many depressing tradegies in everyday life so its nice to have some escapism.

2. Aoi was kinda annoying but she was very upbeat, she basically hasn't changed cept for her "assets" but I like how her life wasn't troubled, she was basically a normal happy girl with caring parents and played a supporting role.

3. Sana's dark past was kinda explained in like 5 mins with a flashback but to be honest I don't think the writers wanted to show him as a emo, instead he sort of overcome his own fears after the letterbox scene and was generally throughout the series a source of encouragement or comforts to others.

4. Childhood memories being important and living life to the full. Ending I loved to bits to be honest. The twins without dialogue holding hands thing was a bit odd for me but yay for Hinako, a happy life despite her lonely childhood.

Overall though I just like how this series left a plesant memory in my mind and I'm a guy. Maybe I'm just a sucker/noob whatever for rom-com dramas but so what? It was a great personal viewing experience.

10/10

Ending didn't leave me completely satisfied, others have already pointed out why, but this ending was NOT bad.. especially compared to some other shows =)

Ending felt a "bit" rushed, would've enjoyed a bit of extended time after Sana told Nana about the time he tried to commit suicide. The 10-year flash forward seemed a bit strange, but in its own way was nice, was nice to see nana play the violin again. They also cut away a bit too early on the proposal as well =( We can assume she accepted. Also we dont get to know what happened between the twins, they came to the concert together, we didn't even get to see their faces :(

Overall this show was very good, The focus was spot-on most of the time, Some think Shuu would be a better main character but i disagree there. Sana/Nanaka FTW. Aoi didn't get much screen time but her voice was god awful and she was a comedic character so no worries there.

I enjoyed this series. Sure it had some flaws but it had many great scenes aswell and I really liked the cast (especially Nanaka :3 and the twins). I would have liked to see a more definite conclusion between Sana and Nanaka before the timeskip, but oh well.

Just some final random thoughts:
- That 10 years later totally came out of nowhere.
- Youta's the man, dating a 20 year old when he's 15.
- Nanaka is as beautiful as ever. :3

The serie started of with a good phase. But, the final episode REALLY let me down. Sure, in a way it wasn't to far off from similar series, but even so they jumped to much all over the place. The fact that the twins were holdings hand at the end kinda do make you wonder. did they end up running away just to get "together" and fall in love? Sah..
The fact that the main characters ended up together wasn't exactly surprising either. Doh,we kind all saw that one coming. They should have given the show abit more of a "surprise!" feel to it when it came to the love affairs. Failfailfail. 6/10

The Sana and Nanaka thing was pretty boring and not surprising. A pretty lame ending overall except for the 10 year thing. Overall the show was still good, although a bit too melodramatic (I laughed a few times when the dramatic music and cinematography didn't fit the seriousness of the cause), but what was especially entertaining to watch was the t/wincest. Hell, they should make a spin-off of that story alone and I'd definitely watch it. 8/10 (or 7.5 if I could give it that) from me.

That last episode really didn't do it for me. Okay so Nanaka's dad was one sick fuck who decided to engulf himself in flames along with his mom. That's what we were waiting for the whole show? Plus Nanaka tried to go emo style, I was like wow this shit must run in the family. And when Sana went on to tell his bully story... wow. just wow. They never even hinted at him being bullied the whole series from what I recall. Sana probably just pulled that story out of his ass so he could get some pussy. (And it worked obviously.)

Not a bad series but picked up late and even then it fell kind of flat. 5/10.

Ehh. Well, I did like the ending.
Unlike most of the others who have posted in here, I was oblivious to the theory that the watch was covering a scar, I was just thinking along the lines that someone gave it to him, and they were murdered in front of him with a big bloody knife or something. Nevermind, I wasn't concentrating the whole way through (excuses, excuses..).

I also really liked the twins relationship. Although at times it was a bit too close for my liking, knowing what they'd been through together made it just seem to me like they had a very close bond, and I was extremely happy with them running away together, as Shuri being sent away to London, consequently losing her brother when she'd already lost her mum seemed rediculously cruel, and I really hated her dad (her step-mum not so much? :s).
They should have included the reunion between the five though, I can't believe all they showed of the twins at the end was them holding hands. It was sweet I guess, but overdone by the end, and it didn't look JUST friendly. Would have been nice to see the manly love between Sana and Shuu.

Cannot believe that was all they showed of Sana and Hoshino, just skipping from him being all: 'ahh, I regret trying to kill myself because then I wouldn't have been able to save you :'(' FLASH to him about to give her a ring.. FLASH to apparently they're now engaged. That went too quick for my liking, after going so slow for the past twelve episodes.

I ALSO didn't like that Hoshino tried to kill herself, and wouldn't see Sana. I'm sure this opinion is very wrong, but nevermind, I just don't like suicide. It seemed weird to me (ignoring that they were still building up the trust and stuff) that she was so angry at him for not being there during the whole fire thing, that now that he IS there, she'd just ignore and refuse to see him. I know he was actually there this time.. AHH nevermind, I shouldn't make opinions.
One more thing, how on earth was Sana allowed to go live by himself far away from his family after trying to kill himself?? The moving seems like a good thing, but really without anyone else there?

The ending kinda made me go 'aww I wish there's more'. For one, I'm really curious about the twins. We never got to see how much they've changed! Another thing would be the twin's father. What's his reaction when he found out the twins ran away? Did he find out his wife cheated on him? I must know! >.<

This was the epitome of mediocre. Bland, undeveloped characters with a sudden 'twist' to attempt to make them interesting, bland story, but fleshed out with enough good moments to make this an 'average' anime.

Aoi's voice actress was possibly the most annoying voice I have ever heard. And yet that one walking in scene with the porn and tissues was the only moment that I laughed at and really enjoyed in this whole anime.

Perhaps if this was stretched out, or had a better budget for animation / voice acting, they could have improved it a little more, but as is, this one is going to quickly fade from memory.
Anyone with over 10 shows ranked at 10/10 clearly needs to re-evaluate their idea of a 'masterpiece'.

Wasted potential. This is like a hybrid of Kanon and Ef, but lacks the quality of either. Seriously, WAY too many issues. Everyone in this damn show had some sob story that most people will only encounter a few times in their entire lives. It just came off as very contrived, as if these were calculated attempts to shock viewers and tug at their heart strings.

I think one of the reasons I disliked that part of the show was that everything felt so rushed. 13 episodes for like 5 different MAJOR problems. That was no where near enough time at the pace this show went at.

Finally, Sana and Naname's relationship developed in a completely unnatural way. There was no growth, just warps along the relationship path. Plus, they remain seemingly unaware of each other's confessions well after the fact.

"We'll always be together!" while she's crying in his arms, but then we're going to have that awkward "It's not what you think!" on the Ferris Wheel? Please.

Despite all that, a lot of this anime was nicely done. I'm amazed that out of the five girls in an anime of this style, only one developed feelings for the main character. It's stuff like that that redeems the anime somewhat in my eyes.

I was pleasantly surprised by the series. Drama/romance tend to have some annoying characters but I didn't find any of the leads to be overly irritating. I would have preferred if they completely left out Hinako and instead spread the ending out over an additional episode or two, because the ending felt a bit rushed.

But I actually liked that it skipped right to 10 years later... this series could have beat around the bush more.. drew out another couple episodes.. but I think I would have got bored.. Dont get me wrong.. I loved the entire series.. I just felt like everything had been covered and explained thoroughly.. all the relationship arcs and such.. to me there was more closure with this series than many others I watched..

I sort of liked the twins relationship? I really found it hard NOT to root for them...I was happy to see them still together in the end. After going through so much.

Everyone just automatically assumes that was incest.. twins are VERY close even in real life.. the show never really implied them romantically.. just that they were very close..

Okay so they held hands.. you havent ever seen a brother and sister hold hands?

great anime great ending although i wish they would of had a final scene where they actually all got togeather it would made the ending so much greater the characters in this anime or so deep and that gives the story so much deapth
i agree with anime_n00b seems like everyone is freaking out screaming "INCEST TWINS" they never really showed anything about any romance between them they are twins and when you look at all the hell they went through togeather of coarse they would be really close the only ppl they could truly count on were each other. so you can complain about their 'relationshipt' but personally i think it fit the story really well

"I am the bone of my sword,
Steel is my body and Fire is my blood,
I have created over a thousand blades,
Unknown to Death,
Nor known to Life,
Have withstood pain to create many weapons,
Yet, those hands will never hold anything,
So as I pray, unlimited blade works"

The mixture of light drama - which isn't really saddening yet a drama - and romance makes it perfect. And the happy end - I'm a sucker for it =D especially in drama animes

In some threads, specifically the Ep. 11 thread, there are complaints, "it's episode 11 and we still don't know X" - but I suspect these people never put up with LOST. Getting answers - straight answers, at that - after only 13 episodes feels so good.

The finale only gets 4/5, and the series 9/10, because I dislike timeskip endings. I prefer timeskips to be a whole arc, or a sequel. But really, I think I'm just looking for a reason not to have more than one 10 on my list; they should be special, and as much as I love this series I'm not sure I could justify the whole thing being a 10.

That said, it's very moving and reminds me of people I know and feelings I've had, so it's worth every bit of my 9.

6 for me. was hoping for more with Sana's past. it wasn't the uncle but friend betrayal messed her "father" up leading to tragedy. I guess almost everyone got a happy ending later and the twins did get their wincest. it could of been more interesting and they wasted too much time on the loli. at least we learned where the name came from. still if they were giving the happy ending I wish the twins/and everyone had a real reunion with everyone.

I'm sorely disappointed to be honest. I loved the series, it was great. Up until episode 11 it was wonderful. Episodes 12 and 13 were, I suppose I'd say mediocre. The conclusion made me happy, but it was weak. I felt it could have been really powerful, but didn't quite do it. All and all, I think it's been a great anime, but I expected it to be better in the end there.

Yeah. It was totally rushed and mute. I didn't feel anything at the end. They could've put an extra episode in just to cover the marriage part but for god sakes, you just don't go...yeah we finally found that we share the same suicidal thoughts together...10 YEARS LATER... will you marry me? Felt more time could have been spent on his main problem, it seemed as if everyone's main issue was outlined and had development on apart from his but at least it linked back into her storyline.

The 10 years part was okay but would have been nice to see what the twins were up to during that time.

I'll give it a 7/10.
