| Pretty terrible anime with lots of flaws. Dropped after 1st episode: * everything feels rushed, no time to breath and get to know characters * plot makes no sense, dude has imaginary friends and they somehow become real? and suddenly some other people are involved in his imaginary world with no questions asked? * dude wakes up with new entries in his private diary and is like "oh well, let's make breakfast" * killing someone by destroying their cellphone - lame * MC's hobby is writing in his diary 24/7 and nothing else, then what is he writing about if he has no life? * ugly CGI All in all I felt like watching death note rip-off targeted at 12 year olds. |

| @DZento Same here, It has been 7 years since i watched this too. I like Yuno for being a very interesting Yandere   Very few anime have hooked me up like this, especially in mind game genre. Rewatching this is a special experience. I like Norio's Deus a lot, he really brought out the best. I like Yuno being a femme fatale, with a great veil to cover up.  Not to mention that kiss, she really went in for that kill. Yuki killin third was kinda awesome, along with Yuno's plan, exploiting the use of phone camera to kill at his moment of weakness. Third though was kinda dumb for immediately being impulsive without listening to murmur. TWICE. maybe listen to her first. Soundtrack is banger. enhances viewing experience. |

| Welp, I guess it’s finally time to watch this huh lol, I think I’ve known about this one since even before I got into anime in 2013, and I guess it would have been fairly new at that time too since this began in Fall 2011, insane to think about that. But yeah my buddy wanted to rewatch this since it’s been many years since he’s seen it, and this’ll be the first time for me, should be fun discussions to be had from this lol. And this is off to a pretty good start, quite the wild OP, it really has that early 2010s vibes, I like it, and the ED is nice too but we don’t have the visuals yet unfortunately. And they really wasted no time getting into the death game (which I never realized was what this show was even about lol), Yukiteru is just going about his life and talking to his definitely not real friends, and BAM you’re getting hunted by a serial killer and your only hope of surviving is your yandere stalker, nice lol. It really is genius tho, normally the MC wouldn’t want to touch the yandere with a 10ft pole, but since she’s basically his lifeline he has to work with her, this first episode alone had some great moments with her, I can see why Yuno Gasai converted so many people into yandere fans lol. Pretty interesting game we got here tho, so everyone is a weirdo that used their classic flip phones to keep a diary of sorts and it can now tell the future in some way based on what they used it for, in Yuno’s case she gets a diary not even about herself, but her crush Yukiteru, I’d like to know what she was doing with that phone before it became a future diary lol, I think I got the idea. And thanks to that dumbass “third” guy getting deleted, now everyone is out to get Yukiteru from the get-go, yeah seems about right lol, I guess Yuno is gonna work overtime. It’s a really cool start and all, but yeah that god Deus being CGI looked pretty ugly lol, it at least kinda works because he’s an otherworldly being but still not the most pleasant to look at, at least the show looks good otherwise. Definitely looking forward to seeing how this plays out, I don’t know jack shit about the story so it should be a good time. |

That doesn't seem too bad. You have a diary telling you the future, just be more discreet about it. I feel like I really should've watched this sooner though. I remember first hearing about it like... Maybe 10 years ago now at this point 0_0 I never really looked into it, but I knew of it back when I first started to get into anime. |

| This is so bad I'm genuinely astonished how worse than I thought it is in every conceivable way, early 2010's anime fanbase really was something to allow this kind of garbage to become popular at all. This might be easily the worse paced and written first episode I've seen of any anime ever. -Main character effectively enters a pocket dimension (with bad CG), for some reason thinks it's totally normal -He can interacts and talk with other people in said dimension, still thinks it's all in his imagination (even people suffering from advanced schizophrenia and MPD cannot directly interact with their alternate personalities) -Cellphone now tied with life, what if it runs out of battery? (like a normal fucking phone) -What if the cellphone just breaks itself? -Higher being chosing 12 people for a death game to take its place, somehow 2 of them are in the same class (no explanation given) -Main girl points out main guy abused his future diary, only thing he is shown doing is cheating at exams (something he could do without knowing the futur) -Teacher doesn't even give a shit about a student pulling his gigantic flip phone in class to cheat (not paid enough probably) -All other member of death game seemingly ganging up on MC for already killing someone, none of them acknowledge they'll still have to kill everyone else anyway -No one bothering to ask that ugly CG god what even is happening in the first place -Middle schoolers wanting to gang up a kid because he has good grades??? (he literally just cheats) -Main guy discovers main girl knows about his "imaginary" world, first thing he considers is she's going to kill him despite showing no signs of wanting to??? (This absolute level of paranoia ) -Middle schooler carrying a pouch full of darts without getting arrested????? (absolutely baffling the author thinks this would remotely be possible) And most important of all, main rule about how this premise work is completely incoherent and breaks apart the entire concept. If what is written in their phone is their defined future and fate, why are they able to change it? In this case what is written in their phone isn't the futur, it's just a possible scenario of what could happen among a multitude of other scenarios. First instance of this future diary power is main guy hitting bullseye with his dart, but what if he willingly just threw the darts next to the target? The world wouldn't bend the laws of physics just for the darts to hit bullseyes because it's not stated the futur diary has any influence within the real world. Therefore most of what is written in the diary is basically useless because it has no bearings on their actual fate in the slightest, proven by the fact main guy just dodged death in the easiest manner possible by not stopping the elevator at the 14th floor. This "future diary" is complete ass it just contains arbitrary informations about A possible futur but not THE futur at all. Having this much inconsistencies in just one episode (while also being abhorrent to look at) is a level of accomplishment I would not think Mirai Nikki was able to reach but gotta say I'm surprised and curious how worse can it get. |
| Kinda ok but still bias hasn't erased yet, looks like ANIME in the "anime" meaning itself ayo that purple detective gal is fine tho 1. Why would they need to kill each other? (to get the throne wha?) 2. Why would that purple gal Yuno Gasai need to protect him and what's up with her neglectness/carelessness about the situatiion,lol. 26 episodes with the already foreseen conclusion? Would it worth it? Love the "old" fictions, animes especially have fine/good subtitles made with passion, the vibe is something elseeee |
| When I was 12 and first found this show at random on [completely legal streaming site], I thought it was the coolest show I'd ever seen. I'm now 23, and see it for the overly edgy garbage it is. However, I suspect that, as it continues, it'll become far more enjoyably bad than genuinely terrible. The opening flash-forward is more or less meaningless. All it does is give you two seemingly unrelated harrowing scenes that a new and unspoiled viewer cannot possibly parse, so the show can later tell you those scenes were, in fact, chronological. I understand why screenwriter Katsuhiko Takayama (or original author Sakae Esuno, if the manga began the same way) opened the story like this, given that Blankslate McFuckmuffin isn't a great hook on his own. Still, the show's big twist seems like it would've worked just as well (if not better) without giving the audience this pointless breadcrumb. The escalation of Yuno's psychopathic behaviour also seems like it would've been far more impactful if her nature hadn't been made painfully obvious from episode 1. The scene where Yuki runs away from her before she corners him in the elevator easily could've been abridged to just:
As it stands, the way that scene is written serves only to artificially heighten the tension. Additionally, instead of the infamous ending scene where Yuno promises to protect Yuki while looking and sounding completely insane, why not just have her walk up to him and make the same promise in a normal way? That way, it might actually seem kinda sweet, and her turning out to be a violent, abusive stalker several episodes later might feel like a betrayal, rather than being incredibly obvious. (Granted, if I were rewriting the story overall, I wouldn't have Yuno abuse Yuki, because that's just not enjoyable to watch, but my point still stands.) |
