I guess it would be Slayers and Yu Yu Hakusho for me. There's just something about the animation/style of older anime that I really enjoy compared to that of most of the new ones. That glossed over plastic/shiny appearance just doesn't do it for me.

... damn I considered 1990 to be pretty contemporary... Fist of the North Star, Legend of the Galactic Heroes ftw. Of course I can't forget ol' Tetsuwan Atom. That story brings tears to my heart whenever I think about it. Macross Do You Remember Love? really needs recognition. Uchuu Senkan Yamato is still totally awesome. Night on the Galactic Railroad definitely needs recognition... I could go on and on.

The usual: Dragon Ball, City Hunter (it was called Nicky Larson when I was watching it), Ranma 1/2, The Guyver, Battle Angel Alita, Ghost in the Shell, GTO, Rurouni Kenshin, Saint Seiya, Akira, Fist of the North Star. Most off them I've seen on the only TVstation that aired anime (TF1, french station) back then, others I rented on VHS in our local Videorental store. Good times, good times ^_^

so no one liked "future boy conan"? It's probably the ultimate adventure anime!
also city of gold was good, Il fiuto di sherlock holmes (I think they're still airing it here), captain tsubasa, lupin sansei ofcourse, rocky joe (ashita no joe) I'm sure I'm forgetting tons of other classic anime, I practically grew up on them
