Well, the sheriff wasn't the nicest guy around, he was an asshole sociopath, really. While Vash doesn't kill, he seems to be really goddamn skilled, a literal monster in fact. Good episode.

So Vash is a big time pacifist, huh? At least he showed a bit more of his skills this episode.

I'm actually startled. I love this episode, from the title screen to Vash self-awarding reads it at the end. It was hilarious, epic and story uncovering. “Rem” was enough of a tease from Vash to say, I was only starting to wonder the motive behind Vash's journeys, where is he going? Why is he wanted? It seems that there might be an untold revenge story that's affecting our guy both personally (giving him enough of a motive to pursue his journey) and publically (staining his name as the ruthless stray dog).

I really liked this episode~ What started as your typical hostage situation ended up having a lot of interesting twists and turns that once again made me realize that things are almost always never as it seems in Vash's world all shown within the span of 20 minutes in a very amusing and clever way.

It was awesome to see Vash make his formidability more and more apparent as each episode passes with Meryl and Milly joining in on the action this time around, with the former's shining moment being badass as hell.

That is a great synopsis of this episode that contains no spoilers! Great job!

Vash is just vibing to music and blowing bubblegum.

Two of the robbers' names were 'Denim' and 'Gene' lol.

Whoa, Meryl is packing and has mad skills.

I thought Vash was just a silly goofball so far, but the more I watch, the more I love him.

They were saving some budget in this episode, uh.

Meryl's moment was good and so was Vash during the second half.

This is probably the first episode where it's like, "Oh shit, things get dark."

This world is made of love and peace.

Dear god, the dub voice for that daughter chick is absolutely horrendous.  Other than that, good episode though.
To  be honest, I didn't care much for the dubbing when I first attempted to watch it. I know I'm going to get hated for this, but I personally prefer the voice acting for Vash in the sub rather than the dub. I like some of Johnny Yong Bosch's voice acting. But I feel like he oversold it on the goofiness of Vash for me.

Oh Vash, Vash, Vash,Vash, you really are a one aren't you? God the dancing he does before entering the bar had me in stitches. The girls got some action this time round and let's not forget the quote of: "This world is made...OF LOVE AND PEACE!" God this show is a delight I'll tell you that.

4 episodes in and I am still asking myself this question: Is this it? This is the great Trigun/Vash I've heard so much talk about?

This one will go in the bag of suppose classic/must see anime that end up being a complete disappointment just likes of Outlaw Star, og Shaman King etc.

I am going to finish this anime so I can say in an argument that yes I did see it and I didn't find it that special etc.
Me every time I hear the word "reparations": 🤣🤣🤣

@animalia

I can't pass the goofy type of character Vash is 90% of the time, he reminds me of Captain Tylor from The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Another anime I disliked mostly because of the same reason.

Also the shenanigans & goofy settings he gets into & the funny bits etc aren't funny at all, the secondary characters, the two female ones, one acts/says things like a ret@rt 95% of the time. The other one is dumb asf because the evidence that Vash is something more is right there in the open and she's blind as a bat.

The four episodes I saw so far weren't that good either.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

I am hopping that the show picks up a bit like Outlaw Star did, but I'm not getting my hopes to high on this happening.

@Dawizz For what it's worth and without getting to much into spoiler territory the goofy part of Vash, while still a genuine part of him, is also a front for all of the pain he feels. I don't know if this changes things for the better or not, but at least you know it now.

It's incredible how the supposed humanoid typhoon hasn't fired a single bullet in 4 episodes, but they still manage to be entertaining episodes.

Spanish Translation:
Es increíble como el supuesto tifon humanoide no ha disparado una sola bala en 4 episodios, pero aun así logran ser capítulos entretenidos.

Vash choosing not to kill the mercenary is just one of the many ways in which we've been shown how he operates. From episode one to episode three, we know that Vash is always genuine when it comes to dealing with human lives. There are plenty of episodes left to delve into the why Vash is this way, but for now the show wants to let us know that the way he handles dangerous situations is the most telling part of his true personality. We are given a clear idea of what kind of protagonist we have been saddled with behind all the fooling around and goofiness. His idealistic ways of handling situations don't come without a price, though. Even though it's played for laughs, he's still being smacked and kicked throughout this and other episodes. But never mistake his optimism and good natue for being close-minded because he's very aware of how the world works. His actions are conscious choices. It's inspiring to see that he can have so much faith in people even after seeing them at their worst.

Yeah, lots of good things about Vash, not about much else, though. I mean, it was an okay episode, but what about Bostalk? Or Stan? How about the kidnappers? Sure, Engway (the kidnapper in the hat who is named in the dub but not the sub, funnily enough) doesn't sink to Bostalk's level to get his revenge, but how about some kind of conclusion? What happened to everyone? Give me a still or something.

And what was this all about? What was the point of the whole kidnapping then? The motives and plans of these kidnappers don't quite match up all the way.

Oh and that duel. Take some freakin' creative liberties when adapting the manga, jeez. Those angles, that lighting, their relative distances, and the awkward shooting. That was some terrible execution.

The kidnappers ask for $$10 million in the sub, $$100,000 in the dub, and $$40,000 in the manga. One of these is unlike the other!

The ending really cranked up the QUALITY meter.
