Shinobu and Yagi do see something going on, mostly from Kotori. Shinobu has confronted Kotori about this. Yagi has made the remark about being in this position before (being the wingman for Inuzuka in college).
Will this turn into anything? At this time it's unknown. I just see it as a high school student's crush on a teacher who cares about this students. He just happens to spend time with one in particular.

If the manga is going to get there, I think it could end up being a time skip epilogue kind of thing. Right now the sensei is nowhere near thinking of Kotori as a potential new wife. (He notices that she's cute and becoming more voluptuous as she ages, but only in passing.) He mainly gets together with her because it makes Tsumugi happy. If Kotori confesses it will just embarrass him and cause him to cut off contact with her. So one possible trajectory is she graduates without confessing and either she goes away to college or he moves away. Then after two or three years they have a chance meeting with the clear implication it will lead somewhere. Like the end of Umi ga Kikoeru.

Kotori, second year student = 16/17 years old. Let's say Kotori's mom did go to college. That means she would have been at least 21-22 years old when she Kotori so that makes her between 37 to 39 years old.
Kouhei would be the same age as his wife. They had Tsumugi about 21-22 year of age. Tsumugi is 5-6 year old. So Kouhei would be between 26 to 28. He's right between the two women. Lucky dog.

One thing I couldn't help noticing with the manga is Kotori is actually rather well developed in certain areas considering she is still a teenager. Hell just for being a girl in general she is well developed. Certainly more than you'd expect for her character type.

Kotori is 16 years old. Most girls are fully developed by that age.

As someone else noted, Kotori is very bosomy in the manga. Much more so than in the anime. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a way of carrying yourself: a way of being. There is panel in one of the recent chapters where Kotori jumps of for some reason, and all of a sudden she looks a whole lot more like a woman than a girl. And then there's a reaction panel where Kohei notices for sure.

BTW: what I mean by a soapy mother-daughter triangle is some kind of triangle between Kohei, Kotori, and Kotori's mom. I just don't see any hint of that.

I still think a time skip ending makes a whole lot of sense. I realized after posting my last message on the subject that no one really needs to move away. When Kotori graduates, two things are going to happen. Kohei is going to stop encountering her unless he goes to see her, and Tsumugi will be entering her second year of school. By then, Tsumugi's focus is going transfer to school activities and school friends, and she may lose interest in going over to see Kotori. So I could see K & K drifting apart for a while. Then maybe two or three years elapse and Kohei is maybe feeling some pressure to remarry. And one day they have a chance encounter. Besides Umi ga Kikoeru, another ending a bit like that is

I was responding to another poster "doing the math" on Kohei and Kotori's mom. Despite the speculation of some of the mothers in that one chapter, I don't think this manga is going anywhere near there. IOW, I think you and I are in agreement.
