| Anyone notice....how MAL changed the genre of Akuma no Riddle from Yuri...to Shoujo Ai? o-o It might not be important....but...I just thought it was interesting. :P I've never seen an anime on MAL change it's genres.....so... LOL! Sorry, this might seem useless and all, I just thought it had to be looked at. xD |

| My guess would be they thought the yuri themes'd be way heavier (maybe they are in the manga and they just copied the genres over) but then none of the yuri actually happened. I've seen slice of life shows lacking either of those genres that are more yuri than this. |
| I was present when the change occurred. When asked why, the answer was that the "yuri" tag is only included when sex is involved. I personally don't agree with how this works, but that's what the site goes by. |
| Why can't we just use "yuri" for everything yuri, being the correct definition and all. Onii-sama e... didn't have lesbian sex and it's still labeled as yuri (as it should be), Simoun had explicit lesbian incest and yet it isn't tagged as "yuri" either, Mai-HiME isn't yuri and has a random little girl pedophilia "shoujo ai" misleading tag, etc. Just why? |

In fact I can easily tell you of a yuri anime that ended last winter season Sakura Trick. I can't say for certain, since I'm not part of MAL staff, but I believe this anime went from Yuri to Shoujo Ai for one obvious reason, and that was because of the misunderstanding born from fact that the main and secondary characters were females, which led those who saw it to think this was another action/romance yuri anime. However, after a few episodes it became clear that there was such a minimal/inexistant romance in the show that made that tag misleading. This is what I believe although I may be wrong about the reason... ---------------------------------------------------- P.S. - I actually knew of another yuri anime named Kuttsukiboshi (even though it's a OVA instead of TV version) and it seems that both that anime as well as Sakura Trick are now considered Shoujo Ai too... weird... But let me honestly tell you that if what you say is right and that is the though the MAL staff had on this situation, then I really can't agree with them |

| it really is simple, as tv shows cant be hentai they also cant be yuri or yaoi. some shows might be more explicit than some other but in the end they cant show open sex scenes on tv. at most it will be heavily censored with "dark shadows" (half of the scene will be black if not more) MAL is not very good at tags in general. |

If they want to differentiate yuri from yuri+hentai they can simply use the hentai tag on its own, instead of condensing it with another one and change its meaning as they will. Then remove the shoujo-ai tag. I don't know if the same goes for yaoi because I don't know about shounen-ai vs yaoi. |
