| MAL is not MU. We don’t plan on being MU. We will not scrape MU. Why? First, we’re not MU, but it would also cause many problems with bad info-like thousands of doujinshi entries we don’t list, thousands of collected oneshots we don’t list, and it would waste a LOT of precious computing power that MAL is very low on these days. Those are just the few reasons we wouldn't scrape, but the biggest is that we aren't MU. People forget this. MU is for lurkers. Most have their lists set to private, no gathering places like clubs, very few social functions etc. These are things MAL focuses on besides what I think is a more user-friendly and better looking list. MAL's information is user based, with mods filtering out the abundance of bad information. If someone is reading a title, one of the readers will get around to adding it. Most people don’t read raw stuff, which is a large number of what we're "missing." If you don't like the gap, then it's up to you to fill the spots. I've added hundreds of entries myself, all raw. Considering I can add a complete manga entry often in less than 60 seconds, I've never really had a problem with it, even before being a mod. The mods are not going to add every single MU entry here ourselves, even though we add many titles anyway. There's only a handful of us working as volunteers as well. If you're expecting us to, I'll be honest and straightforward and say that this isn't the place for you then. Some of these points like the ability to submit URLs don't belong on this board but the main support board, since only the manga mods patrol this area and we have no coding power. We also want to streamline the process of submitting things and have very, very preliminary talks of doing so, but again, it doesn't belong on this board. |
| Don't forget that while there are many missing mangas in the MAL db, there are some (mostly novels) that are present here, while absent on MU. |

| It's tough, really the only way to close the gap is to have users like yourself keep submitting titles. Yes, I agree it is a bit more tedious then it should be, but we are working on making the site better, so hopefully in the future it is more intuitive and easier. When I signed up over two years ago I had to enter more then half of the titles for my manga collection (which is all English licensed titles). I've also added 80%+ of the Tezuka (almost 40 last week) and Go Nagai titles into the DB. We, have come a long way and we just got to keep plugging away. With added every new title, it is a bit hard to keep track of. Unlike anime which has fairly well defined season, new titles enter and exit manga magazines all the time. It is just to hard to keep track of. Again the best way to help is to submit yourself. Also thank you for your kind words. |
| I like your suggest for an extra info box for mods. I would suggest it in the Suggestions forum. If it comes to NSFW images and it is to much of a hassle, don't upload them if you can't edit them first. Though it is always best to try to find a SFW image. I often do DB stuff at work so I also need to be careful. Worse comes to worse, you can PM me the image info and when I get home I can edit the images then, and add then. I've found that if you put in the kanji for a title into the Google image search (sometimes with the kanji for the author's name) it generally yields decent results for images. |

| DO NOT upload a bunch of NSFW images into the queue like that. That is unacceptable and a bannable offense. Like Brand said, many of us look at the queue while at places where we can't view NSFW images. Also, I take exception at the statement about how it's a waste of your time to download/upload images and that you'll just push that off onto us. Our time is also valuable. Don't abuse the mods. If I see submissions like that, I for one will deliberately ignore them. |

| You talked about grabbing URLs for possibly NSFW images without even having to visit them. And then passing them along to us with no mention of labels before. Adding links to NSFW images and expecting us to fetch those and edit them every time goes along with what I said--don't abuse the mods. If it's a waste of your time, it's doubly a waste of ours. We're not your personal censors nor image fetchers for 250+ submissions. |
