So, I'm gonna host a LAN party with a couple of friends, it's gonna last for 3 days and we need some games to play.

Any ideas?

Depends on your crowd.

Starcraft/Warcraft III
Setup Quake/CSS/Halo
Some COD4 (small maps like Shipment to mess around)

this is generally what me and my friends stick to.

COD4
DotA if they have played it before, otherwise no. (wc3 custom map).
WC3 if you're roughly at the same level. This goes for all RTS games, they're no fun if one player is experienced and rest are new.

What kind of games are you looking for? Would an RPG be cool? RTS? FPS? I'm not really up to date on any specific ones, but I've had loads of fun playing RPG games at LAN.

Anything that you can play co-op or vs.
I know they are really into GTA SA and GTA IV, while I don't really have a specific taste.

Anyway, heres a list of games I've been thinking off trying:
1. Oblivion online mod
2. Left 4 Dead 2
3. Age Of Empires 2 & 3
4. Serious Sam 1 & 2
5. Saints Row 2 ( On 360)
6. Battlefield 2, 2142 or Bad Company 2
7. CoD 4
8. SWAT 4
9. Crysis

And some console games.

I would say stuff like Starcraft, Age of Empires 2, Call of Duty, Halo (used to LAN Halo 1 and 3 all the time, and also played a lot of online Halo 3 at my house with friends) Left 4 Dead 1 or 2 is also fun to LAN, but can only support 4 players.

Warcraft 3 custom games are a lot of fun, unlimited possibilities with how many games there are o.O

All these have been mentioned above, but there all great ideas, I've played these on LAN multiple times, and were a lot of fun

On what systems? PS3?PC?XBOX?
Halo 1 (PC)/(Xbox) = A must! (Up to 16 players I think on PC)
L4D or L4D2 (Xbox 360)= Crazy fun! Killing zombies ( Up to 2 player split screen)
CODMW2 (PS3) / (Xbox 360) = Good for FPS lovers (Up to 4 players split screen) No need for another console!
Starcraft = For people who like RTS or just love the game!
Counter strike 1.6(I recommend 1.6) or Source (PC)= More great FPS games!

BC2 is FARRR TOO large for a LAN, even COD4s pushing it, its already big maps.
Crysis maybe, I get sick of that real quick thoughs.

L4D2 I'd highly reccomend though, I could go for hours with friends on that, new or old, you can generally get around, I mean there's arrows?
I personally prefer the first L4D if I'm playing with beginners though, I don't like people being bombarded with all these new zombies and the maps (iono if its just me), feel easier to finish at times.
Though of course, ramming people off ledges and and grabbing one other and killing him instantly IS fun as hell.

SWAT - Lots of people dislike it, guns are innacurate in every SWAT game.
I'd say all your games are good so far.
Really, its what the crowd wants that decides.

Left4Dead of course
if you can get it somehow System Shock 2 (max 4 player) but runs only if comp is swiched to single core
Baldurs Gate if you have or can get (max 6 player I think)

something I play with my friends from time to time: http://wz2100.net/
and this game is made for LAN party

1v1 campaigns in Napoleon: Total War are amazingly fun, also you can do 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 land, naval or siege battles.

Hands down SWAT4, you actually have to work together and communicate to accomplish the levels. You can co-op with up to 10 players (by adjusting the MaxPlayers in SwatGUIState.ini) which is nice, better than the usual 5 (4 for most other co-op games). And when someone decides to pull out that pepper-spray or team flash/stings, hilarity will ensue.
