Is this where I make a funny joke about Chelle's statement reminding me of when I was a lonely teenage boy?

Just finished Kimi ni Todoke. Gave it a Solid 8. Good art, great music (EP especially) interesting character (Ryu was my favorite, next to Ayane and chizu). Had a solid story arc up until the later eps then it drug.

I initially stated this was a 'chick' anime and I'm disinclined to change that statement. However this slice-of-life anime was worth the watch (and maybe a re-watch of some episodes).

Don't worry, 99% of shoujo romance series don't appeal to me either. I do enjoy some josei slice of life/romance series where the characters aren't High School brats anymore like Honey & Clover or Nodame Cantabile once in a while, though.

I can take romance in very small doses... especially if it's not cheesy and not the center of the story, or preferably just hinted ^^ I enjoyed Honey & Clover but don't think I'll ever watch Nodame...

Aww, but you're missing out! Nodame actually has far less romance than H&C, at least not of the dramatic kind...and it's funny as hell!

I just completed Natsume Yuujinchou and its sequel and I was impressed.
For starters the series has extremely likeable characters in it and the individual stories are fascinating. I really expected it all to be about Natsume dealing with the legacy of his grandmother, instead it had these moments of tenderness and sadness that really enjoyed. The music was excellent, artwork outstanding and the whole package was worth the marathon watch that I ended up doing. It is well worth the watch, there is fun in it and sadness, there are no bimbos with odd coloured hair detracting from the plot, there is no ecchi and no giant meccha. Its a solid series and I highly recommend it to anybody who likes a touch of the supernatural, mythology and a good story.
Oh, and do watch the cat.... he is awesome.

Natsume is such a great and fairly underappreciated series, it always makes me glad when it finds another fan!:)

And i haven't given up hope for another season yet since the manga is still ongoing...

Mazui released a reasonable sized version of the camrip which removed most of the flickering. As far as camrips go, its quire watchable. Enough so, that Disappearance has hit #1 on the Top Anime List.

Just Finished Black Lagoon and it's Second Season, which really wasn't a second season per se as more of a 24 episode season broken into two parts.
All I have to say is, HELL YES. Gimmie more. One of the better Animes I have seen in this genre in a long time. I need more I may even break down and read the manga. Supposedly a third season is on it's way. I need to find the Roberta-the-killer-maid OAV and watch that still.
But great characters, flaws and everything, good story, great visuals, music so-so (nothing strikes me as great or worth remembering). Rock and Revy 'Two-Hands' had great chemistry and I would like to see more of that story unfold.
Big thumbs up.

^_^ Revy for the win!

But aside from that comment, I finally got around to finishing the OAV "Hyper Doll" and once again I am tempted to go to the Dark Side and read the manga in the hopes that it might help explain WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?! Aside from the feeling that we are missing about 4 episodes prior to the first episode and wanting at least 2 more after the second episode, this is a typical mid-90's space alien "magical" girl romp in the sun. No deep plot, no "moe", no psychological thriller, just good fun. One guy tormented by two lovely female androids from outer space who are commanded by a blob called up using a pepperoni/pineapple pizza. If you want deep meaning to your anime, this one is not for you, so shoo, go away, go watch your Gintama, or One Piece or whatever the flavor of the month is. This one is just for fun.

P.S. But it helps to have a weird sense of humor though.

Sora no Woto - It's got the character design of K-On! (to a point), but the story and other artwork is more like Haibane Renmei, and the feeling one gets from the series is similar to Aria.

A total surprise, but a good one. Probably one of the best anime from last season.

Glad you liked it. It was one of my favorites too. Too many people dwelled on the superficial resemblances to K-On, which made no sense to me. Its kind of like comparing Higashi no Eden to Honey and Clover because the character design is similar.

Once again, I am almost tempted to read a manga. Just finished watching The Adventures of Kotetsu, a short little two episode OAV, that while it wasn't the best OAV on the market, it is far from the worst. It is too bad that the original manga is listed as hentai (and probably was categorized as such when it came out in '95) as I believe it would have made a fun series of 10-13 episodes. True, there was a touch of fan-service through out the OAV, but no more than you might find in a series of more modern lineage. It's a little hard for MAL to list this one as the subbing group I d/l'ed used a VHS tape to make their offering and just ran both episodes into a single file for uploading, thus if you want MAL to track you on this one you have to do it manually. AniDB recognizes the dual load as a single file and lets you update it as needed.

I started Read Or Die (TV series) sometime this week and it was quite a ride if not a bit confusing. There seemed to be a large lump of story missing, but not so much that it was disjointed. What drew me to it was that part of it takes place in Hong Kong, a city I have been to twice and the mention of bibliophiles. I am somewhat of a bibliophile myself so I just had to see what was going on. After I had finished the series I then heard about the OVA and I have just completed it now and it was excellent, explaining a lot of what was missing in the TV series, although I still have lots of unansweredd question. Overall though it was a great series and I rated it low because of the disjointed bits. Artwork is great, especially in the OVA and overall I do recommend it.

Finished Eureka Seven last night. Was an ok series. Had a lot of potential with 50 episodes. The Ending however seemed rushed and very open ended. Not that open ended is bad just a lot of loose strings. Seems they either ran of of money or steam. I'm usually not a mecha fan and this didn't help me to be a more tolerant of the genre. It was a good story but with lots of plot holes (holy crap where there holes) and some poor character development. they had 50 episodes could we learn just a little bit more about these characters? Overall gave it a 7. not horrible but ok.

Finished Loveless last night and I was not very pleased. The series throws you from the start to a world that resembles the real one but some things are different. You get no explanation as to how or why some things are the way they are, even some of the most important aspects. By the end of the series, almost no question has been answered, leaving it open to second season that never came to be. I scored it 6/10.

Well, finally I finished NHK, and I just don't know what to say. Well, maybe, yawn? I really, really had to fight to keep from dropping this one. Really, about the only saving grace was the soundtrack which was rather soothing and calming. People have compared it to Otaku no Video and Genshikan and they are in a completely different league from NHK. Those two were much more enjoyable to me than NHK. The only reason Otaku no Video didn't score higher than it did was the damned live segments that were dropped into the animation. Drove me up the wall.

I finished watching Petopeto-san. It's one of those series where I "sampled" an episode in the middle, watched a handful of episodes and shelved on the assumption I wouldn't be able to track down the rest. As luck would have it I did find the episodes I hadn't seen. So the order in which I saw the episodes of the show was this: Ep 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 & 13. It was a bit tricky trying to remember details of the plot watching the last episode being that I watched the one previous to it more than six months ago. All in all I found the series relatively enjoyable in spite of my odd viewing sequence. Though, frankly speaking, I really didn't suss out the fun in the whole "Nyo Mi no Sato" thing. I'd hazard to say it amounted clueless "moe".

Edit: Oh. According to my records it took me over four years to finish watching this 13 episode series. XD

Just completed Mai Hime as I was ill in bed so had time to kill. I have to admit I really enjoyed the first half of the series, but somehow I found the second a bit disjointed and with lots of holes in the plot. However, it was fun to watch, there were lots of really funny moments and Mai was a great character as was Midori. I havent decided about Mai Otomi yet, I may have to go read some reviews on it. Now its back to watching Itazura na Kiss (which doesnt require much brain power)

TBH, I liked Mai Otome more than Mai Hime, but your mileage may vary. Mai Hime has a darker theme while Mai Otome is somehow more "shounen" focusing more in battles and not much in character development, the drama aspect is much reduced although still there.

If you decide to watch it, go for the BD version.

Ja but Itazura is so cute! I really loved the series even though I thought the love interest was an asshole.

I just finished a series called Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho , which is an echii comedy revolving around mermaids and swimming clubs. I thought it was pretty good, for its genre and thought it was a good example of how it can be done right and be funny yet not feel completely exploitive. A few pretty amusing characters too, nothing real deep but harmless fun.
